Exploring Texas: Decatur Courthouse (built 1896)
This grand courthouse sits in a small town square in Decatur, Texas (population 6,000+). It dominates the landscape for miles in this rural area on the plains of North Texas. One of my favorite professors was the late June Welch. He was a long time teacher at the University of Dallas and was an expert on the small town courthouses like this that exist throughout the state.

The Atlanta Regional Commission's (ARC) 14th annual State of the Region Breakfast was held Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The Livable Communities Coalition works with ARC and an esteemed jury of experts to select deserving projects from around the 10-county Atlanta region that exemplify cutting-edge, livable designs. Last year, ARC created a new award for a Great Place in metro Atlanta. A great place can be anywhere. It can be a neighborhood, a street, a city, a park or any place that brings people together. The award for this year's Great Place goes to Downtown Decatur.
Historic Dekalb County Tower Clock, Decatur GA
This is one of two E. Howard #00 Time only tower clock movements that are located in the gables of the Decatur (Dekalb County GA) courthouse. I was able to go visit the Old Dekalb County Historic Courthouse and was surprised to find two clocks instead the traditional set up of one tower clock with motion works and linkages going to each face. I'm guessing it is the distance between the 2 faces that prompted E. Howard to do this 2 movement set up. I was very excited to see this type of clock movement in use other than a street clock. I have an E. Howard #00 movement at home and it was said to have come out of a cupola in New York state. Well all clock collectors kept telling me my clock came out of a street clock, but my motion works and linkages demonstrated a different type set up........ Well now I have proof that these movements had other used than just street clocks.
Hope you enjoy!

Richard Ware: Randall County Courthouse Restoration In Canyon, Texas
By 2004, the Randall County Courthouse in Canyon, Texas was in great need of serious repairs after 95 years of use. The Texas Historical Commission was making funds available to Texas counties needing help to restore their courthouses back to their original glory.
The Randall County Courthouse had already lost the original clock tower on top of the building which had been a major architectural feature when it was first built. But the THC was not offering enough money to do a full restoration. County Judge Ernie Houdashell was opposed to spending Randall County funds so it was up to community leaders to not only support the restoration project but help raise the money to complete it.

Hamilton County Courthouse Gets An Historic Addition
For best quality, view in 480p and full screen.
The little town of Hamilton, Texas, population just under 3000, had a somewhat historic day yesterday...January 21, 2010. Our county courthouse, which has been under renovation for roughly a year, had a cupola (clock tower) added.
This makes it more historically accurate and, depending on who you ask, adds to its timeless beauty.
I apologize for both the traffic noise (it's in the middle of downtown) and the camera being a tad shaky here and there. The tripod I'd hoped to have by the time this took place, is still another week from arriving.
