The History of the Fairbanks House-The Oldest Wood Frame House in North America
A presentation at the Hyde Park, MA Historical Society by Daniel & Allison Neff, Curators of the Fairbanks' House in Dedham. It is the oldest wooden frame home built in 1637 in North America.
If you drive by the house, the signs states 1636 but after some scientific research on the wood of the home it was determined the home was built in 1637.
Also, an interesting bit of information was uncovered during the presentation. One of the Fairbanks' relatives was publicly executed by hanging in the town for allegedly murdering Elizabeth Fales. The execution was carried out on the Dedham Green in 1801. The person who was executed was Jason Fairbanks.

Dedham, Massachusetts is an historic suburban industrial town on the principal southern corridor of metropolitan Boston, and is the site of the earliest surviving framed house in New England, the handsome 1737 Fairbanks House. Dedham received its grant as a town from the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636, making it one of the oldest communities in the state.
Its colonial agricultural economy was expanded by industry only after the town, in 1639, built one of the earliest water power canals connecting the Charles River with a tributary of the Neponset River and creating sufficient water power for grist and fulling mills. The character and future of the community changed drastically when Dedham became the county seat for Norfolk County and the court house was built in 1796.
As local historians point out, this brought in lawyers and officials, trained, educated and ambitious men who changed the face of the community by investing in and supporting industrial development. Woolen mills sprang up in Dedham as innovations such as powerbroadlooms were introduced. Dedham's factories manufactured everything from pianos to furniture and the famed Dedham crackleware pottery.
The town shows a rich and diverse architectural face to the world, with its monumental granite court house of Greek Revival design, its Victorian prison, its limestone Neoclassical Registry of Deeds, Romanesque Revival public library and Renaissance and Georgian Revival schools. In addition, Dedham has a remarkably well preserved town center, with a bounty of colonial architecture and several historic sites highlighting the community's Old New England splendor. Dedham Route 1 Accident
Full Video. Thankfully not fatal but pretty bad the vehicle was flipped. Officials were called to the scene just after 4 p.m.
According to the Maine State Police, a Game Warden was turning around to assist a state trooper with a traffic stop.
The warden made a U-turn and when doing so struck another vehicle going the same direction.
This caused the vehicle to flip over.
The driver and the passenger of the vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It's just the vehicle wasn't seen it was in a bad spot in terms of a blind spot of the vehicle for the warden and the turn which we do all the time. Just ended up striking the rear end of the other vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.

Footsteps when no one is there, the ghostly laughter of children… Is America’s oldest house haunted?

It's the oldest timber frame house in America, lived in for generations by the same family and lovingly kept just as it was in its early Colonial days.
But what the Fairbanks House lacks in modern facilities it seems to make for with ... strange spirits.
The house in Dedham, Massachusetts, was built between 1637 and 1641 by English settlers Jonathan and Grace Fairbanks.
Today the house is a museum, but it could very well one of the most haunted houses in America.
Justin Schlesinger, one of the museum directors whose ancestors built the property, said: 'There’s always been weird things happening in the house, from the doorbell going off a million times to flashlights never working.'
He added that there are sometimes footsteps heard on the stairs when no one is there. Also, a newly-installed alarm system went off every night for several weeks with the alarm company unable to offer an explanation.
Check Presentation - Old Village Cemetery in Dedham, MA awarded state funds
On December 11, 2018, Senator Mike Rush and Representative Paul McMurtry presented a $250,000 check to Marie-Louise Kehoe, former State Representative and Dedham Selectman, and Chairman of the Old Village Cemetery Restoration Committee.
Citing the Old Village Cemetery’s significance and importance to the Town of Dedham and beyond, both legislators remarked on their enthusiasm for its renovation and improvement. “This Cemetery not only tells a story of Dedham but a story of the United States,” commented Senator Rush, a former U.S. History Teacher. Representative McMurtry added that “When we honor our past, we honor our future.”
