STREET ART and BBQ in DEEP ELLUM | Dallas, Texas
DAY TWO in Dallas we woke up at the incredible Westin Galleria and decided to take the full day to explore Deep Ellum and a few more sights in Downtown Dallas.
Deep Ellum is a old warehouse district that is now being revitalized with restaurants, shops, breweries and street art. It’s right next door to Downtown Dallas. We first explore Deep Ellum and we ate at Pecan Lodge the best place to eat BBQ in Deep Ellum. It’s fantastic!
Up next we visited Dallas Museum of Art and roamed around the four floor building. My favorite part of the museum was the Asian/ African 3rd floor. After that we headed next door to Klyde Warren Park where there were food trucks and beautiful views!
For dinner we ate at the Oceanaire at the lobby of the Westin Galleria Hotel. We ate a lot of delicious seafood, from oysters, to lobster and so much more!

1st Anniversary Bock by Deep Ellum Brewing - happy 1 year!
Deep Ellum Brewing Company's newest craft beer release
This oak aged, honey doppleboxk is DEBC's 1st year anniversary beer. We at DEBC can't believe how quickly a year can go by, and this is our gift for the support and love as we've grown right before your eyes.
1ST ANNIVERSARY BOCK
9.5% ABV 25 IBUs
aka The Lager Strikes Bock
Bocks, by their nature, and their inspiration, are reactionary. Bocks are claimed by many to have originated as 'the beer of Einbeck', but they came from brewer in Einbeck reacting to what brewers in Munich were up to. While a few newer iterations have popped up, bocks have remained mostly the same. This is our reaction. We pay homage to the original doppelbock, Salvator through naming and usage of literal tons of Munich Malt, but turn on the afterburners with the addition of nearly a thousand pounds of Texas Wildflower Honey from Sunnyvale Honey Farms and aging this massive lager on new, medium toast American White Oak.
STYLE: Oak Aged Honey Doppelbock
HOPS: Santiam, Mt. Hood, Liberty
MALTS: Munich Light
YEAST: California Lager
OTHER: Texas Wildflower Honey, American White Oak
PACKAGES: 50L

2 Chairs: Dallas man steps into role as King of Texas BBQ
For someone, really into Texas barbeque, it's the best job you could imagine.
Dallas blogger Daniel Vaughn has been named the Barbeque Editor for Texas Monthly Magazine, the bible of Texas barbeque. Vaughn quit his job as an architect to follow his passion.
He sat down for an interview with David Schechter in a segment we call 2 Chairs to talk about why barbeque is so important in Texas.
His Top 5 BBQ spots in DFW, in no particular order, are: Mac's (Dallas), Pecan Lodge (Dallas), Lockhart Smokehouse (Dallas), Meshack's (Garland), Off the Bone (Forest Hills)

A flight of Texas Ale Project's tasty Craft Beers Dallas TX
Right down the street from our Dallas home is the Texas Ale Project, a veteran owned and operated craft brewery. Kimberly and I did not let the clouds above somber our desire for tasty suds. A good selection of games, with seating indoors and out, provided Kimberly and me with the perfect setting for a fun flight from Texas Ale Project. The first beer on our flight is named Fire Ant Funeral, a name like that got my attention immediately. The thought of coming together and raising a glass of cold beer to the last rites of such an evil creature sounds more like a party to me! Kimberly agreed, calling it a smooth and malty Amber Ale arriving at 6% ABV and 32 IBU’s. The second beer on our list was named after the cloth of Kimberly, Somethin Shady. The thought of pairing this porter with a steak came to Kimberly, after tasting notes of roasted coffee and chocolate. An excellent suggestion for this 5.5% ABV porter. The third was Tap Anniversary IPA, an American IPA with lots of hops and tropical fruits sitting at 7% ABV and 85 IBU’s. We learned that this IPA is not for the beer rookie, especially when bitterness is not your “thing”. Texas Ale Project barreled me up and spit me out their tap for our final beer, The Caucasian! This yummy White Russian Imperial Stout has vanilla, coffee and bourbon all done right. Kimberly enjoyed this too, although it might be a little too boozy for her palate at the moment. Circling back around, we wanted to thank Texas Ale Project for the flight of beer, and the service they give to our community and country. Cheers!
