Aberdeenshire's MTB Scene is Blowing Up (2019)
Our team rider Chris Hutchens returns back to Aberdeenshire to spend some time with Gravitate, the charity he helped initiate 4 years ago.
He chats with Martin Byers, the Chairman, to find out about the project and how you can get behind it to ensure its success.
There's also multiple other project going on in and around the region supported by Will Clarke, the Regional Development Officer. Chris get's to hear more about his role before finding out a little more about the newly formed Aberdeenshire Trail Association. Doug Blease gives any budding trail builders out there a great insight into the well organised trail diggers and how to potentially go about setting up your own organisation.

Where to Ride: Mountain Biking wild trails in Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Wondering where to ride in Scotland? Make Aberdeenshire a top priority. Fort William and the Tweed Valley are better known destinations, but Aberdeenshire has some golden riding spots for those of you who want that ‘big mountain’ enduro experience.
Aberdeenshire has some classic granite rock trails including the infamous Heart Break Ridge, and Mastermind, but also some lesser-ridden secret loamy enduro spots tucked away in Scots pine forest, best visited with local MTB guide, Chris Roper from Ride in Peace Adventures.

Cairngorms MTB | Heartbreak Ridge | Scotland's best
This ride is a well known ride out of Ballater that used to be known as the Green Mile because it takes in some gloriously vivid green woodland on the descent back down to the River Dee.
From the road you turn off onto some non descript fireroad climbing steadily, and dare I say it, steeply up. I was riding a cheat bike and it was still a hard climb.
The descent is nothing special in my opinion. It's decent enough and there's plenty of features which could hospitalise you but it's ok, there's nothing major to tackle you just need your wits about you.I'm sure if you were a local and had ridden this trail a few times you could absolutely smash it down...
The route is on Trailforks
