In this video, Mogg Morgan suggests you should visit the Deir el-Shelwit temple if you're traveling to Luxor, Egypt.
Deir el-Shelwit was built when Egypt was ruled by the Romans and is thus one of the last temples of the Egyptian religion. It was discovered in the 19th century but has only recently been fully renovated and opened to the public. It is in a remote region just south of Luxor.
With Luxor itself being such a treasure house of high Egyptian culture, it is easy to ignore these later monuments, but they are well worth adding to your itinerary. Deir el-Shelwit is similar to several other local and related temples, such as that of Hathor at Deir el Medina. Deir el-Shelwit is dedicated to the goddess Isis, and is thus a very rare exception in this region where the god Amun is king. Read more at

Luxor, once an Ancient Egyptian capital, is known as the world's greatest open air museum. You can visit many places from the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings and the magnificent sunset views at the majestic temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor to the exciting and fun Nile cruises. The Chapel Of Alexander The Great Luxor Temple مقصورة الأسكندر الأكبر بمعبد الأقصر
Temple of Luxor - Sanctuary of Alexander the Great
Beyond the birth room is a side room with three columns and poorly preserved reliefs, from which an arched doorway inserted at a later date leads into the Sanctuary of Alexander the Great, a room largely rebuilt in the reign of Alexander. The four columns supporting the roof were replaced by a chapel for the sacred barque of Amun, the walls of which were decorated internally and externally with reliefs depicting Alexander in the presence of Amun and his fellow deities, while the walls of the original chamber still show Amenophis III in the presence of the various Theban gods. A door in the north wall of the chamber leads into a small square room with four papyrus cluster columns. The reliefs in this room, in three rows, show Amenophis III in the presence of the Theban deities, in particular Amun.
The rooms at the far end of the temple contain no features of particular interest. A gap in the wall of the Sanctuary of Alexander the Great leads into a hall with 12 columns, adjoining which are three chapels. The roof of the central chapel was supported by four papyrus cluster columns. To the left is a relief showing the King being conducted into the sanctuary by Atum and Horus; the other reliefs show him in the presence of Amun. The south chapel, also accessible from outside the temple, was dedicated to the ithyphallic Amun-Kamutef.

In this video, Mogg Morgan provides a glimpse into what it can be like to travel in Luxor, Egypt like a local and experience all the wonders of this ancient city.
Luxor is an Upper Egyptian town whose name in Arabic means The Castles. The Ancient Egyptians called it Waset meaning City of the Scepter. To the Greeks and Romans it was Thebes - The City of a Thousand Gates.
It's probably one of the world's largest archeological sites. It's difficult to think of anywhere that provides such an enormous range of experiences. Egypt has been called The Temple of the World, and in ancient times Luxor was one of its capitals. And it does not end there—it has a vibrant pagan, Christian and Islamic culture, whose reverberations are still felt in the modern city.
