Gorton, President; original layout of park went from Somerville Road to Second Avenue. Robert Loveladys father Horace Elbert Lovelady constructed the bridge. The historic Delano Rose Garden was re-created between the years of 2005 and 2006 as an exact restructuring of the former rose garden that once stood as part of the original Delano plan. The garden had been none existent for decades but was finally rebuilt in junction with the revitalization.
The need for a way to connect the western portion to the middle portion is a high priority for the city. 6th Avenue (US 31) successfully cuts the park in two, effectively depriving the western portion of much needed attention. A historical trail has been built, beginning in the eastern portion, traveling through the middle portion and eventually connecting with the western portion in an attempt to spur more foot traffic throughout the park. The trail also intends to allow for a safer crossing of 6th Avenue as it is one of the busiest streets inside the city

48 Hours in Decatur, Alabama: Possibly Alabama's Most Underrated City??? (condensed version)
We went to Decatur, AL, over the Memorial Day weekend, which is the ideal weekend to see what this underrated city has to offer. Friday night, we went to the entirely free Daikin Festival. Saturday morning, we went to the Alabama Jubilee to watch the hot air balloon race. Unfortunately, it was already too hot for the balloons to fly. After that, we walked through the arts and crafts fair and the car show. Since we were on that side of Point Mallard, we walked down the biking and hiking trail. Later, we went to Rhodes Ferry Park and Delano Park, where the kids played in the splash pad. Saturday evening, we went back to the Alabama Jubilee to watch the hot air balloon glow. Then Sunday, we took in a few more sights, before heading back home.
