Kusadasi Turkey From Port to Ephesus
We get off The Celebrity Silhouette, Cruise ship in Turkey and we find a tour guide and cabbie and he shows us the surrounding areas. When you are crushing around the world and have to hail a cab it helps to haggle and shop around for a good price. Many cab drivers are really pushy in the area of the port exit so it helps to have a little patience, and don't be afraid to walk away. The cab driver we got was parked away from all of the other cab drivers. He was much nicer and spoke better English than the others and the best part he took us to Ephesus and back for the cheapest price. He became our tour guide for the day taking us to many other important historical sites around the area. The area near the port has a lot of tourist type stores. Almost every listed price in the markets is available for negotiation. They have lots of knock off items, and plenty of turkish delight, and hand woven Turkish rugs. The weather here is very similar to southern California, semi arid temperate climate. They grow lots of olives, grapes and citrus trees

Istanbul & Kusadasi, Turkey: 3 Raki Cocktails - May 13-14
Turkey was a delightful surprise - friendly people and fascinating cities. Kusadasi was beautiful and the ruins at Ephesus amazing! Three new cocktails are tasted tonight in honour of this fabulous Turkish visit each featuring the Turkish National Drink: Raki! Raki is an anise flavored spirit native to Turkey made from double distilling pomace (the leftover skins and seeds from winemaking, called suma in Turkish) in a pot still, then flavoring the resulting spirit with aniseed. While the distillate itself is similar to ouzo or grappa, anise-flavored spirits are popular all around the Mediterranean. The favourite Raki drink in Turkey is a concoction half Raki, half water, and is called Lion's Milk. It caused me to purchase some beautiful Turkish carpets I hadn't planned to buy so trust me when I say, it's powerful stuff! Tonight we are joined by Mario (Steward Extraordinaire) and Horlicks (Bartender Exceptionale) while trying out three new Bar None Drinks cocktail recipes.

2019 Summer Turkey Trip #2: Besliktas and Traditional food
Today is our first full day in Istanbul! Despite some jet-lag, we manage to get out and into the city. In the busy city center of Besliktas we head to Define Bufe, a famous Duner restaurant, for some traditional Turkish cuisine which can not be beat. Everything from a burger with the word disgusting in its name, to the well known desserts drenched in sugary syrup, makes this trip truly delicious.
