Trip to Greece 2012 - Delphi
Spring 2012. The amazing hillside site of DELPHI - A significant ancient archaeological site in a beautiful natural setting.
In Greek mythology, Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and a major site for the worship of the god Apollo after he slew the Python, a dragon who lived there and protected the navel of the Earth. The ruins of the Temple of Delphi visible today date from the 4th century BC are of a peripteral Doric building. It was erected on the remains of an earlier temple, dated to the 6th century BC

Day Trip From Athens to Cape Sounion to See The Temple of Poseidon + Amazing Greek Food in Lavrion
We decided to take a family day trip from Athens to Cape Sounion, which is about a 1 hour drive from the Greek capital. Located at the southernmost tip of Attica, Cape Sounion (sometimes also called Cape Sounio) houses the Ancient Greek Temple of Poseidon. This is a great activity for those who want to escape and the hustle and bustle of Athens on a hot day, and just a fun and accessible activity for families in general.
Perched on the promontory of Cape Sounion, the Temple of Poseidon towers over the endless Aegean Sea with its seemingly infinite islands. It offers some of the most amazing views in the world, I don't believe my video does it justice in that department: we were truly left in awe by the amazing view here!
After visiting Cape Sounion on a blazing hot summer day, we were left starving. We asked our driver to find us a great spot for some delicious traditional Greek Food, and he brought us to the port city of Lavrion (Also known as Lavriou or Laurium), which used to be the ancient silver mine of the Athenians. There we ate at this small, understated yet beckoning restaurant called Psarou.
Wow! The meal was incredible!
They served up some amazing Greek Food, including one of the best grilled fish meals we ate in Greece. It was also great since it was really, really hot that day and a lot of the restaurants by the beach were over-crowded and didn't offer AC. With kids, especially one that was turning a little red, this was just perfect! Other travelling families will know just what I'm talking about... ;)
Hope you enjoyed watching and don't forget to hit the subscribe button for more family-oriented travel videos!
Side note: Robyn forgot her purse with many important documents and our credit cards at the restaurant. I want to give a huge shout out to PK Travel who went made the 1 hour drive later that evening from Athens and back to get it for her. Their customer service was so exceptional it left us emotional, they really went the extra mile for us (some pun intended) and this is by no means an ad for them. Give them a shout if you're ever in Athens and need to get around, here's their link:

About us: We are Daniel, Robyn, Ava, Rose and Ella, and together we are The Go To Family. We love to travel! We also love food, exploring historical sites and, of course, doing loads of fun things together as a family.
In our videos, you will see me and Robyn tackle every obstacle that traveling with kids throws at us. We do traveling almost exactly the same way we did before having kids, it just takes a little bit more planning these days. The result, however, is simply more fun! It's also very rewarding to be able to show the kids new cultures and live new experiences with them at the same time. Our mission is to inspire other Millennials to travel with kids.
Our 7-year-old daughter, Ava, also has her own YouTube channel. Feel free to check it out right here:

A day in Athens
by the Concierge of the Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens
Welcome to the Hotel Grande Bretagne, Athens!
Europe's oldest capital and our expert Concierge are delighted to introduce you to the most memorable experience in the luminous city of Athens and its modern and historic treasure troves. Located right in the heart of Athens as well as within walking distance of exclusive shopping areas, museums and the business district, the Hotel Grande Bretagne enjoys the ideal location in the city centre.
Begin your day with a walk under the Acropolis hill, through unique places such as the NEW ACROPOLIS MUSEUM, THE ANCIENT AGORA, PLAKA AND THISSION. A walk that will introduce you to one of the highest-profile cultural projects undertaken in Europe, will fill you up with a deep desire of buying rare artefacts and miniature models of how the Acropolis and the Agora looked like during ancient times, will endow you with a stroll through the sights of the sunny cobblestone of Dionusiou Areopagitou and will uncover numerous elegant restaurants & bars that set the scene for the perfect city experience.
Keeping these memorable feelings, visit the MONASTIRAKI FLEA MARKET and exceed even your best expectations by taking in the indigenous and authentic flavours of the city of Athens. A bright Sunday morning would be the perfect time to walk through colourful shops and find a wide selection of souvenirs and traditional relics to take back home.
Heading back to the historic landmark, for your midday relaxation, there is no better thought than passing through ZAPPEION, THE FIRST OLYMPIC STADIUM OF MODERN TIMES AND THE NATIONAL GARDENS. This long walk will allow you to captivate the images of the largest ancient temple in Greece; the Temple of Olympian Zeus and visit Zappeion; the very first building to be immediately linked with the Olympic Movement. The First Olympic Stadium of Modern Times will let you stand breathless in front of its 80.000 pax marble capacity and The National Gardens - once named The Royal Gardens- will unfold their magnitude and peaceful walkways right before your eyes.
The sun sets over the city, casting a golden light on an ancient land filled with the world's greatest artefacts. Athens is the place where one minute you're walking through the Acropolis and the next you're right by the seaside or shopping in the city's finest boutiques. And this is exactly where VOUKOURESTIOU STREET comes to take the leading role. After your morning walks through historic treasure troves enjoy an afternoon visit to the shopping district where the most elegant international brands are being hosted.
The day in Athens comes to an end as the evening sky fades under the city lights. What better way to enjoy the sight then by watching the CHANGE OF THE GUARDS as you are having an opulent dinner at the GB ROOF GARDEN RESTAURANT, where the unsurpassed views of the illuminated Parthenon create special moments. And why not have a drink before saying goodnight; either in the numerous city bars or in the award-winning ALEXANDER'S BAR of the Hotel Grande Bretagne.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

vlog: its Greece baby!
Its taken a very long time to edit this one (whole 9 months to be exact) but this one was especially hard because every time I looked at the footage, it made me question why I had even left. This trip was by far one of my favourites to date, and with the best people. For more info/details on where we went, and our recommendations, read Lauren's blog post below!
