Australian Salmon fishing @ Dunalley, Tasmania!
During the school holidays, our dad brought us fishing in Dunalley. It is about 50 mins drive from Hobart, Tasmania.
We heard people have been catching lots of Australian Salmon here, we would like to try our luck too!
We went finishing near the Denison Canal. Denison Canal is a man made canal located at Dunalley in southern Tasmania, Australia. The canal opened for use in 1905 and draws its name from former Governor William Denison. The canal was built to shorten the fishing and trade routes between the east coast and Hobart.
It’s the first time ever my Dad let us cast on our own, we managed to catch a few Australian Salmon here!
Do you know any nice fishing spots in Tasmania? Let us know as we would like to check the place out too!
Hope you like our video! Remember to share, comment and subscribe!

EP2. SAILING TASMANIA - Dunalley / Denison canal and Taranna
Hi folks - This is EP. 2 Sailing in Tasmania.
In this series, we sail for Hobart to collect our daughter who is flying in from South Africa to sail with us.
Since we have sailed down the east coast of Tasmania, we decide to opt for a short cut through the Dunelly / Denison Canal, which should be well planned on account of shallows, current, tide and wind.
We demonstrate how we planned for this crossing, the obstacles and natural characteristics we were mindful of when planning - and more.
We share information also for future sailors wishing to cross through the canal so for viewers not interested in the sailing aspect, these portions of the video may not appeal to you, however, even for those who do not sail, you may find it interesting to note what we as sailors need to consider when sailing in different regions around the world.
Denison Canal is cut through the isthmus of the Forestier Peninsula of Tasmania.
In 1854, pressure by east coast settlers to improve transport by avoiding the longer, mostly rough voyage around Tasman Peninsula, resulted in Lt-Governor Denison commissioning a study.
Tenders were called in 1901, construction began and the canal was opened in 1905.
The canal itself is 895 metres long, and 2.42 km including dredged approaches.
The width is around 34 metres at ground level reducing to 7 metres wide at low tide. Our catamaran IMPI is 7,7m width, so careful planning is required.
Water depth ranges from 2.6 to 3.9 metres according to tide.
Originally there was a hand-operated swing bridge that was replaced by an electrically powered bridge in 1965.
Although the canal was used by small vessels and east coast traders, the canal is nowadays is restricted to fishing and pleasure craft by shifting sand bars in Blackman Bay making dredging of the canal a necessary ongoing practice.
Westerly winds block our passage to Hobart necessitating Impi to 'Fall off' instead for shelter in a quaint and historic region around Taranna, in Little Norfolk Bay.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Mayor of Dunalley Jan Barwick tells people to leave after Tasmanian Bushfires.
Mayor tells everyone to leave that's not a resident. You've eaten all our food and now it's time to go. Residents want her sacked. Not very hospitable. A Current Affair. Hobart is banding together to help out these people.
Nubeena to North Head
Tasmanian Sea Canoe Club trip, 11th May, 2013. Nubeena to Outer North Head return. Watch out for the seals; they like to hang around the fish farms!

Dunalley Waterfront Cafe
We always make an effort to visit the Dunalley Waterfront Cafe each time we're in Tasmania. A lovely place to have a meal and a cuppa. Great to see the township slowly rebuild after the bushfires.
Transit of the Denison Canal
Denison Canal,
This canal is cut through the isthmus of the Forestier Peninsula in southern Tasmania and is the only purpose-built sea canal in Australia. In 1854, agitation by east coast settlers to improve transport by avoiding the longer, often rough voyage around Tasman Peninsula led to Lt-Governor Denison commissioning a report. Tenders were called in 1901, and the canal was opened in 1905. The canal proper is 895 metres long, and 2.42 km with dredged approaches. Its width is about 34 metres at ground level reducing to 7 metres wide at low tide. Water depth ranges from 2.6 to 3.9 metres according to tide. The original, hand-operated swing bridge was replaced by an electrically powered one in 1965. Formerly used by small vessels and east coast traders, the canal is now restricted to fishing and pleasure craft by shifting sand bars in Blackman Bay. Tidal scouring obviates the need for dredging of the canal itself.
