the Pakistan Council of the Arts in Islamabad.
The Give Back Project works to improve the impact of nature and wildlife conservation by engaging with and educating young people, local
communities and the wider public through the medium of film.
The Deosai National Park is located in the Skardu, Northern Areas of Pakistan that is known as the Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA). The park is located on the Deosai Plains, that are among the highest plateaus in the world with an average height of 4,114 metres above the sea level, covering an area of about 3,000 square kilometers. For just over half the year - between November and May - Deosai is snow-bound. In the summer months when the snow clears up, Deosai is accessible from Skardu in the north and the Astore Valley in the west. Deosai is well known for its spring season when it is covered by a carpet of millions of flowers and a wide variety of butterflies.
Deosai Plains make up one of the last frontiers of natural habitat for the Himalayan Brown Bear, a creature that once roamed the mountains freely. The Deosai National Park was established in 1993 to secure the survival of the bear and its habitat. Having long been a prize kill for poachers and hunters, the bear, Pakistan's largest omnivore, now has a hope for survival in Deosai where its number has increased from just 19 in 1993 to 40 in 2005.
The Deosai Plains are also home to the Himalayan Ibex, Red Fox, Golden Marmot, Wolf, the Ladakh Urial, the Snow Leopard, and over 124 resident and migratory birds. Birds in the park include the Golden Eagle, Lammergeier, Griffon Vulture, Laggar Falcon, Peregrine Falcon, Kestrel, Indian Sparrowhawk and Snowcock.

The Deosai Plains, are located above the tree line and constitute the second-highest plateau in the world at 4,115 metres (14,500 feet) after Tibet. The plateau lies east of Astore, south of Skardu and west of Ladakh. The area was declared as a national park in 1993. The Deosai Plains cover an area of almost 5,000 square kilometres (1,900 sq mi). For over half the year (between September and May), Deosai is snow-bound and cut off from rest of Astore and Baltistan in winters. The Deosai Plains is located between Kharmang, Astore, and Skardu in Pakistan. It has an average elevation of 4,114 meters (13,497 ft) above sea level,[2] making the Deosai Plains second[3] highest plateau in the world after Changtang Tibetan Plateau. The park protects an area of 3,000 square kilometers (1,200 sq mi). It is well known for its rich flora and fauna of the Karakoram-West Tibetan Plateau alpine steppe ecoregion. In spring, it is covered by sweeps of wildflowers and a wide variety of butterflies.

Deosai to Shigar Skardu
We arrived at Deosai in dark, thus couldn't enjoy and appreciate the views and camped next to a river. Weather was freezing cold since we drove for quite a few hours we slept well despite the weather. In morning the views were breathtaking, took some photos had breakfast and then on the move towards Skardu. Lets enjoy the road together..

Skardu Deosai Plains Road June 2019 - Snow Drive
Snow drive to Deosai Plains from Skardu June 2019, Deosai National Park road is open from Skardu side right now, and will take some more time to open from Astore Side. Skardu Road condition is bad due to on going construction so not much crowd expected in Skardu Valley during summer vacation season, if you have 4x4 vehicle then it's better to cross Deosai Plains from Astore to Skardu, it will save your time.
Deosai Plains or Deosai National Park's average elevation is 13,497 feet above sea level, and considered as the second highest plateaus in the world. Weather of Deosai Plains is cold throughout the year and so unpredictable, nights are coldest so it's not recommended to camp at Deosai Plains with kids.
Best campsite is Bara Pani at Deosai Plains, core zone of Himalayan Brown Bears, you can also camp at Kala Pani and Sheosar Lake as well but Bara Pani is more suitable place to camp.
Sheosar Lake is the heart of Deosai Plains, if you are going for day visit from Skardu, do visit Sheosar Lake as well as most jeep driver don't tell you about this lake to save travel time and cost.

The Deosai National Park is located in Skardu, district of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan.
Of all the places in Pakistan, this is a place to visit. Fresh cold river cutting through lush plains, brown bear habitats with viewing safari option, marmots everywhere, an always windy Shoesar Lake in the middle. Too good to be true. The best bit is that weather changes by the minute which isn't a bad thing at all because of the plains.

Travel routes to the region
Deosai is accessible from Skardu District in the north, Galtari Kharmang District in the south-east and the Astore District in the west. Deosai is located approximately 30 km from Skardu city and it is the shortest route to visit Deosai. Most foreigners visit Deosai via Skardu. It takes one hour to reach Deosai top via Sadpara Skardu. Another route is from Astore valley via Chilim. It is also accessible from Shila valley. The people of Galtari travel via Deosai. While it is a National Park, the Gujjar-Bakwarwal travel large distances to utilize the Deosai National Park as grazing lands[5]. There is another route called Burgi la via Tsoq Kachura valley Skardu.
