Koblenz also spelled Coblenz (sometimes English and pre-1926 German spelling) or Coblence (French), is a German city situated on both banks of the Rhine at its confluence with the Moselle, where the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) and its monument (Emperor William I on horseback) are situated. The city celebrated its 2,000th anniversary in 1992.
The name Koblenz originates from Latin (ad) confluentes, confluence or (at the) merging of rivers. Subsequently it was Covelenz and Cobelenz. In the local dialect the name is Kowelenz.
After Mainz and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, it is the third largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate, with a population of c. 106,000 (2006). Koblenz lies in the Rhineland, 92 kilometers (57 mi) southeast of Cologne by rail.

Germany's Romantic Rhine and Rothenburg

Koblenz: The German Corner
This German corner is found in Koblenz Germany and it is where the Rhine and the Moselle Rivers meet. This past Christmas we headed to Germany to visit some friends and on our last day, we stopped in Koblenz Germany to check out is beautiful intersection. While we were there we checked out the William I monument at Deutsches Eck. William was responsible for the unification of Germany which is why there is a statue of him where the two rivers meet. We also took the Koblenz Cable Car to the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein which is across the river from the statue.

Die Pfaffendorfer Brücke in Koblenz bekommt Radwege!
Es ist fast geschafft! Die Verwaltung wird in der nächsten Woche dem Stadtrat die einen Plan zum Neubau der Pfaffendorfer Brücke vorlegen. Dieser Plan enthält auf jeder Brückenseite jeweils den getrennten Radweg, von den wir GRÜNEN gegen alle Widerstände so hart gekämpft haben.
