Schöner Brunnen is a 14th-century fountain located on Nuremberg's main market next to the town hall and is considered one of the main attractions of the city's Historical Mile. The fountain is approximately 19 meters high and has the shape of a Gothic spire.
The fountain was built by Heinrich Beheim from 1385 to 1396. The 40 colorful figures that adorn the fountain represent the world view of the Holy Roman Empire. They are philosophy, the seven liberal arts, the four Evangelists, the four Church Fathers, the seven Prince-electors, the Nine Worthies, Moses and seven Prophets (Hosea, Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Amos, Isaiah and Joel).
The two brass rings embedded in the fence surrounding the fountain on opposite sides are said to bring good luck to those who spin them.

The 14th century Schoenen Brunnen is an exquisite architectural work which is calculated to be 19 meters in height.
Forty heroic, philosophic, political, artistic, evangelic and prophetic figures adorn the three narrowing steps of the fountain's exterior.
The Gold ring fitted into the ironwork is the foundation of numerous legends.
Many couples journey to the fountain to spin the gold ring as a ritual, hoping that the stork will grant them a child in the near future.
The Beautiful Fountain has experienced many restoration efforts; fragments of the original fountain can be found in the Germanischos National Museum.

We arrive in Nurnberg on a rainy afternoon but fortunately for us, the weather improves for the two days that we stay in this fascinating city. We are impressed by Nurnberg Imperial Castle (Kaiserberg) with its high walls, towers, 50m deep well and the museum of medieval armour, weapons, royal valuables and holy relics. Just outside the castle walls, we visit the house of the great artist, Albrecht Durer and find out about his life, his patrons and his unique works. For the second night we spend several hours at the world famous Nurnberger Christkindlmarkt, perhaps the best Christmas Markets on the planet. We enjoy many of the local foods, Nurnberg gingerbreads and of course, plenty of gluhwein while regularly treated to the bells of Frauenkirche (Our Lady's Church).

We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.
This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.
From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.
One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.
And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.
Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.
While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.
Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.
The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.
On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.
