Derby Arboretum. 720HD.
Joseph Strutt, the Derby manufacturer, was a member of the influential and wealthy Strutt family, who made their fortune from the 18th century mills they built along the Derwent Valley between Derby and Belper. As dissenters they were banned from holding public office, but as soon as the Reform Act was passed Joseph became Mayor of Derby, and his first act was to build a public park for the population of Derby, opened in 1840. The first public park in Britain.
It is said to be the inspiration for Central Park, New York, which was opened in 1857.
The little girl's mother has given her consent for the pictures to be taken of her daughter admiring the statue of the wild boar, and has given her approval for them to be used in this YouTube movie.

Derby is a city and unitary authority area in Derbyshire, England. Derby lies on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, of which it was traditionally the county town.
Derby was settled by Romans – who established the town of Derventio – Saxons and Vikings, who made Derby one of the Five Boroughs of the Danelaw. Initially a market town, Derby grew rapidly in the industrial era. Home to Lombe's Mill, an early British factory, Derby has a claim to be one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution. It contains the southern part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. With the arrival of the railways in the 19th century, Derby became a centre of the British rail industry.
Derby is a centre for advanced transport manufacturing, home to the world’s second largest aero-engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce, and Derby Litchurch Lane Works, for many years the UK's only train manufacturer. Toyota Manufacturing UK's automobile headquarters is south west of the city at Burnaston.

Strata Euphoria, Prospect park :
This 149 house estate consists of designer 2,3 and 4 bedroom apartments. This estate is known as Euphoria, Prospect park, Derby. The streets have been given suitable names in keeping with the history of the location such as Baseball Drive and Keepers Green.
Baseball ground commemorative sculpture :
The 15-foot high metalwork, featuring three footballers dribbling, shooting and tackling, was officially revealed at the Normanton site on 10th September 2010 by ex-Ram Roger Davies and designed by artist Denis O'Connor. Commissioned by developers Spirita and Strata, which built the 149-house estate on the former ground.
One thing that may not come across in my video is the diabolical road surface, I've never seen such a terrible road, you need a 4x4
to use these roads and they have been in this state for a couple of years. Must be a pain for those people living here!
I have a special section on my website of photographs from the BBG :

Andy's Driving videos around Derby, Derbyshire, UK :
Are you an ex-pat of Derby, feeling homesick? Or perhaps you just want a clear way of giving someone directions to a location in Derby or just want to show people your Derby Street. Well in this video and the many others I have made, you will be able to take a virtual drive around the city of Derby's streets as though you were in the driving seat. I use a dash-mounted camera, Traffic lights and heavy traffic have been edited out.
Hope you found this of interest.
Thanks
Andy

Cities Of Britain - Derby No. 4 (1931)
Full titles read: Cities of Britain (No. 4) - Derby. Described by His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Wm. Harold --- . (timecode obscures title.)
Derby, Derbyshire.
Various shots of the busy streets of Derby. Several shots of Derby Cathedral, the sixteenth century tower and the view from it. We also see the ancient market and the old Mayor's Parlour with timbered front. Crowds of people listen to a band playing in a park (The Arboretum ?) and watch others go boating on an artificial lake. Children fish and paddle in smaller lakes. More people wander along the banks of the River Trent.
Several shots show the railway works where steam engines are being built. More men are at work in the largest malleable casting foundry in the world. Motor cars and aeroplane parts are made in other factories - good factory shots.

No punctures? A pleasant shock!
Missed out on just 2 I wanted to get to. Very difficult to get your average speed up. Loads of twisting and turning, and starting and stopping (brakes were burning)...and being respectful of park users etc.
Note: There are a number of greens, recs, open spaces and stupid little parks in Derby, and a number of other parks, that are either literally impossible to cycle through because there are no paths etc, or others that would need a mountain bike to get through. I made no attempt to go to them.
Park= a large public garden or area of land used for recreation.

At 320 Acres, Allestree Park is the largest open space in Derby. In 1947, Derby Corporation purchased the hall and estate for £23,000
Darley Park was donated to the people of Darby in 1929 by the Evans family who founded Darley Abbey's cotton mills. The mansion failed to find a role after the war and was knocked down in 1962. The café you saw on the left, is the one room that has survived.
Markeaton Park was owned by the Mundy family from 1516. In 1929, the Hall and twenty acres of its gardens were given to the Corporation of Darby on condition that the whole area would be used as a public park.
Originally belonging to Canon Edward, 11 acres of his estate were retained until 1913, when they were sold to the City council to become the site of Rykneld recreation ground.
Normanton Park opened in 1909 as a place people could escape the heavily populated and industrial area. This date is proudly recorded on the clock-tower over the café.
The Park linked Normanton Village with the new, industrial, inner-urban Normanton.
Alvaston Park park opened to the pubic in 1913 after William Curzon made some of his land available. A five acre lake was added in 1923, and a further 62 acres were added to be used as playing fields after the Second World War.
The new hall was built in 1727. It passed into the ownership of Chaddesden Parish Council when the Wilmot family sold its estate. It was demolished in 1927. The park along with Chaddesden bacame part of Derby in 1968.
Mackworth was developed during the 1950s and was one of the largest housing estates to be built in the city. All but one of the road names in Mack worth are named after places in London.
Built in 1868, St. Luke's Church overlooks the park. Some people say it is haunted.
Clemson's Park, King George V Playing Fields and Griffy Field Park are all closely linked parks within littleover. Littleover or little hill in old english was in the parish of Mickleover, (great hill), until 1866, when the residents rejected parish rule and formed their own authority.
Situated on blagreaves lane, was formerly called black graves lane, was the place where during the Great Plague of 1665 the many victims of the bubonic plague were buried.
Normanton is thought to have been the site of one of the major Viking settlements in the Derby area, hence the original name, Normanestune, which means Norsemans settlement.
Osmaston was the home of the ancient family of the Wilmot baronets. They built Osmaston Hall, but it was later demolished to make way for the Ascot Drive industrial estate in 1938.
Pride Park was the original site of Derby's railway manufacturing industry but was reclaimed in the 1990's. Pride Park Stadium and Derby Arena are located here.
