A video tour of Bakewell and the peak district national park in Derbyshire
Derbyshire's peak district National Park covers an area of 555 square miles (or 1437 km2) and is set between the cities of Manchester and Sheffield to the North and Stoke on Trent and Derby in the South. It's a country of rolling hills and valleys with some of the most beautiful scenery England has to offer.
The video takes us on a tour starting with Padley Gorge, just outside Sheffield's city limits and then onto Bakewell, with its popular Monday Market. Ten minutes drive takes you to the picture post card village of Ashford on the Water and then onto Monsal head, reputedly the best view in the Peak District and Monsal Dale
The Hope Valley is home to the small village of Castleton and here you will find many of the shops selling jewellery and artefacts made from 'Blue John', mineral stone that was mined in the numerous caves around the village. Just outside Castleton is Mam Tor, scene of the largest landslip in Europe. The video finishes with a visit to the three reservoirs of Lady Bower, Derwent and Howden. It was here that the Dam Busters practiced for the raids on Germany during WW11. From here, a short journey over Snake Pass will bring you to the city of Manchester.

Ladybower, Derwent Edge, Peak District, England, UK A fabulous 8 mile hike from Fairholmes visitor centre, along the Upper Derwent Reservoir and up to Little Howden Moor and Derwent Edge. This area was used by the Dambusters during WW2 as a training ground for the Lancaster bombers that attacked Germany. There were lots of baby grouse on the moors, only about 3 inches long. Also saw a white mountain hare. At Grindle Clough it's amazing to see a barn that dates from 1647, the period of the English revolution and Oliver Cromwell.

Derwent Dam - Peak District
Situated in the middle of the Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs complex.
The neo-Gothic solid masonry dam was begun in 1902, a year after Howden was started, and proved a mammoth task. The huge stones that formed the walls of the dam were carried along a specially created railway from the quarries at Grindleford. Over 1,000 workers lived in a specially constructed self-contained town called Birchinlee[1] or Tin Town.

Peak District Walk - Alport Castles & The Upper Derwent Valley
A walk from the Ashopton Viaduct to Alport Castles via Crook Hill. I had 4 seasons in one day on this walk so the new bird hide overlooking Alport Tower was a welcome break from the winds. After lunch in the hide I headed down in to the Upper Derwent Valley to walk alongside the Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs.
