Loreto, Baja California Sur!

A visit to Danzante Island in Loreto, BCS, Mexico.
???????? Within the 5 islands found in Loreto's Marine Park there's one we keep close to our hearts: Danzante Island. It's located southwest of the park and it's an amazing odd-shaped island worth visiting, we call it “Treasure Island”. It's amazing rock formations, steep cliffs and rugged terrain will amaze you as you sail along its coastline. Yet small, this island offers a plethora of landscapes, both over and underwater.
Rocky formations are common, being “La Ventana”, a rocky arch, the most emblematic of them all. The west side is sheltered from the wind and offers many sandy beaches and coves. “Honeymoon cove” is probably one of the most gorgeous places in the entire Marine Park.

Why are so many unique marine species restricted to the northern Sea of Cortez?
For years scientists have recognized that the Sea of Cortez, the long sea that sits between mainland Mexico and the Baja California peninsula, has been home to many species of marine animals that are found nowhere else on earth. I'm interested in how and why this relatively small area of the ocean is home to so many unique species. In order to learn more about this, I study a type of fish called a mudsucker to see how its genes have changed over time. These changes can be caused either by natural selection or from the physical separation of different individuals of the same species. To figure out which processes may be most important in the Sea of Cortez, my work looks at patterns in the DNA sequence of mudsucker genes to see how and when different species of mudsucker have formed over time.

Baja Pilot & Sperm Whales
While spearfishing with my good buddies Wardo & Sunderland in the Sea of Cortez, we came across a pod of Pilot and Sperm Whales. If you look closely, you'll see a baby sperm whale in the center, protected by its pod.
I'm always amazed at what the sea chooses to share with us!

PARADISE FOUND - Mexico RV Trip - episode 11
We leave San Felipe, Baja California, and head down along the beautiful Sea of Cortez. The road was far from easy but as you'll soon see, every pothole, sunken asphalt section, missing piece of highway, and ridiculously deep vado (spot where floodwater passes over roadways) was worth the trouble reaching Gonzaga Bay.
Here's all of the must-haves we recommend for Baja travel:
