Video transcript:
What's good in Oman about adventure is the landscape.
You can see the difference of the colours between the sea and mountains and sky. We are lucky we have this place.
The food is very colourful, with influence coming from Africa, Asia. We have that all cocktails mixed together.
When the sun sets, you enjoy the different colours. Sometimes you just sit there and forget about time. And you will never get bored of it.
We are now in the Western Hajar Mountains. You drive from the capital city, which is Muscat, and the landscape just changes completely.
Great shapes and deep canyons and beautiful cliffs. Everything is working together to make it beautiful.
The Via Ferrata is an Italian word, and it means the Iron Way, or the Iron Road. A stainless steel cable attached to the rock.
When you climb up, behind you is the grand canyon of Arabia. Beautiful views all the way up.
Every place in Oman have different nature.
Musandam, this is special because of the fjords and mountains. I feel myself in a different world.
When I'm young, I started fishing with my family, with my father and my brothers. The fish is important in everything.
Omani food is very diverse. We are blessed and we’ve fallen in love with great seafood.
We have 1,800 kilometres of coastline. That's if you count it this way, but if you do it this way, I think it's 3,200.
Traditionally, people would put food in one dish. People would eat together. Food connects people.
When I'm climbing, I feel like I'm free. And it gives me an idea about how small I am on these mountains.
We are a mixed culture of people. We are known to be travellers.
Every day when I come to the fjords and I go and say, wow. I forget everything behind me. Just I am thinking for this time what I'm living.
All of Oman is nice and beautiful. Mountains and desert and beaches everywhere. The landscapes inspire me a lot because it's just beautiful.

When I think of Oman, It puts a smile instantly on my face. I was captivated with it from the moment I landed. There's so much history, it becomes surreal that a land of so many surprises could exist. Not to mention the beautiful people and its culture. It's a Must see destination for any traveller

Walkthrough from the old Muscat to Muttrah / مطرح (Oman / سلطنة عمان)
Tourist map:
(EN) Muscat (Arabic: مسقط, Masqaṭ) is the capital and largest city of Oman. It is also the seat of government and largest city in the Governorate of Muscat. As of 2008, the population of the Muscat metropolitan area was 1,090,797[1]. The metropolitan area spans approximately 1500 km² and includes six wilayats. Known since the early 1st century CE as an important trading port between the west and the east, Muscat was ruled by various indigenous tribes as well as foreign powers such as the Persians and the Portuguese Empire at various points in its history. A regional military power in the 18th century, Muscat's influence extended as far as East Africa and Zanzibar. As an important port-town in the Gulf of Oman, Muscat attracted foreign tradesmen and settlers such as the Persians, the Balochis and Gujaratis. Since the ascension of Qaboos bin Said as Sultan of Oman in 1970, Muscat has experienced rapid infrastructural development that has led to the growth of a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society.
The rocky Western Al Hajar Mountains dominate the landscape of Muscat. The city lies on the Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Oman and is in the proximity of the strategic Straits of Hormuz. Low-lying white buildings typify most of Muscat's urban landscape, while the port-district of Muttrah, with its corniche and harbour, form the north-eastern periphery of the city. Muscat's economy is dominated by trade, petroleum and porting.
Muttrah, (Arabic: مطرح) population 650,000, is a city located in the Muscat province of Oman. Before the discovery of oil, Muttrah was the center of commerce in Oman. It is still a center of commerce as one of largest sea ports of the region is located there. Other landmarks include Souq Muttrah, a traditional bazaar and Sour Al-Lawatiah, a small community of houses surrounded by an old wall.
Oman Offroad
For the second time, we travelled through Oman in a rented 4x4 with rented camping equipment, this time with a roof tent. We love the Omani people, the wadis, the desert, the food, the beaches and most of all, the wild camping and camp fires that go with it.

Geography in Oman:
Oman’s natural landscape varies dramatically from region to region. In some places, vast sandy deserts give way to immense stretches of rugged mountains, while in other areas the geography changes quickly from dry rocky valleys , known locally as ‘wadis’, to lush green plains watered by monsoon rains in the south.
Oman also possesses the highest point on the Arabian Peninsula, measuring in at 3300m above sea level, Jebel Shams. Here, high above the desert floor, temperatures are often 20 degrees cooler than the surrounding landscape. Jebel Shams, the ‘Mountain of the Sun’, forms part of the Jebel Akhdar or ‘Green Mountains’, so named for the vegetation which often covers the mountainsides. By contrast, the rest of the Hajjr mountain chain consists of rocky, barren slopes with little vegetation. Beneath Jebel Shams lies the magnificent Grand Canyon of Arabia, a truly breathtaking spectacle of rocky escarpments, jagged ravines and precariously perched villages clinging to the cliff face.
Right across Oman’s landscape, rocky hills and desert valleys are frequently punctuated with green swathes of date palms plantations. These are typically fed by aflaj (singular: ‘falaj’), ancient irrigation systems, which draw water from underground springs and feed them along narrow canals. The contrast between barren countryside and oasis-like villages makes for spectacular scenery.
Lastly, Oman is home to a coastline of beautiful windswept beaches. In some areas, the rugged mountains plunge directly into the sea and have been likened to the Fjords of Norway; in others, the pristine white sand stretches for kilometres on end, while birdlife can be seen frolicking in coastal estuaries.
The geographic diversity of Oman is one of its major attractions, with its many different environments providing the perfect place for a wide range of visitor activities.

The present-day Sultanate of Oman lies in the south-eastern Arabian Peninsula. There are different definitions for Oman: political, geographic. While traditional Oman also includes the present-day United Arab Emirates, its prehistoric remains differ in some respects from the more specifically defined 'Oman proper' which corresponds roughly with the present-day central provinces of the Sultanate. The Oman Peninsula is more specific which juts into the Gulf of Hormuz.

OMAN: The Gulf's Little paradise! I Fell in Love with the Country!
A vast gravel desert plain covers most of central Oman, with mountain ranges along the north (Al Hajar Mountains) and southeast coast (Qara or Dhofar Mountains), where the country's main cities are also located: the capital city Muscat, Sohar and Sur in the north, and Salalah in the south. Oman's climate is hot and dry in the interior and humid along the coast. During past epochs, Oman was covered by ocean, witnessed by the large numbers of fossilized shells existing in areas of the desert away from the modern coastline.
The peninsula of Musandam exclave, which has a strategic location on the Strait of Hormuz, is separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates. The series of small towns known collectively as Dibba are the gateway to the Musandam peninsula on land and the fishing villages of Musandam by sea, with boats available for hire at Khasab for trips into the Musandam peninsula by sea.
Oman's other exclave, inside UAE territory, known as Madha, located halfway between the Musandam Peninsula and the main body of Oman, is part of the Musandam governorate, covering approximately 75 km2. Madha's boundary was settled in 1969, with the north-east corner of Madha barely 10 m from the Fujairah road. Within the Madha exclave is a UAE enclave called Nahwa, belonging to the Emirate of Sharjah. Situated about 8 km along a dirt track west of the town of New Madha, consisting of about forty houses with a clinic and telephone exchange. The central desert of Oman is an important source of meteorites for scientific analysis
