Design Museum of Holon: Contemporary design inside and out
The Design Museum of Holon will be the first museum for contemporary design in Israel and one of the existing few in the world. Created by internationally renowned Israeli architect Ron Arad, the building itself is a work of art.

Design Museum Holon is the first museum in Israel dedicated to Design. The building of the museum was planned and designed by israeli architect and Industrial designer Ron Arad in cooperation with Bruno Asa. The museum is in the east part of the new culture area of Holon that includes the Médiathèque (central library, theatre, Cinémathèqu). nearby is the faculty of design in Holon Institute of Technology.
The museum opened on 3 March 2010. That is the first building that was planned by Ron Arad.
The museum was noted by travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler as one of the new world wonders.

המוזיאון ממוקם בחלקו המזרחי של מתחם התרבות החדש של העיר, הכולל כיום את מרכז המדיטק ובעתיד יכלול מבני ציבור נוספים. המוזיאון שנחנך בינואר 2010, נפתח לקהל הרחב ב- 3 במרץ 2010. זהו הבניין הראשון שתכנן ארד, ובניין נוסף בתכנונו עתיד לקום בעיר אילת.
המוזיאון נבחר על ידי מגזין התיירות קונדה נסט טרוולר כאחד מפלאי תבל החדשים.
בסמוך אל המוזיאון נפתחה במכון הטכנולוגי חולון הפקולטה לעיצוב היחידה בארץ.
מוזיאון העיצוב חולון, שתוכנן על ידי רון ארד אדריכלים, זכה להכרה בינלאומית כאחד ההישגים הארכיטקטוניים המקוריים ביותר של תחילת המאה ה-21.
חמש רצועות פלדת הקורטן, העוטפות את רוב חזיתות המוזיאון נעות בצורה גלית ומתפתלות סביב חללי המוזיאון, לעיתים בהתאמה כגוף אחד ולעיתים הן נפרדות זו מזו, לעיתים הן מקיפות את הבניין ולעיתים הן מגדירות אותו.

An exhibition by the internationally renowned artist, designer and architect Ron Arad.
In Reverse highlights a selection of Arad's work in metal - ranging from chairs to sculptural pieces - from the past three decades.
Metal has long been a favorite material of the Tel Aviv-born, London-based architect, artist, and designer Ron Arad. From welding and hammering steel in a rudimentary fashion to inflating and forming superplastic aluminum at high temperatures, Arad has mined the properties of metal for more than three decades. With little previous experience in metalwork, he initially made a 'virtue out of necessity' - using scrap steel to create handmade furnishings and to outfit One Off, the studio, workshop and showroom he established in the early 1980s.

Nendo & Caesarstone Collaboration | Design Museum Holon
As the centrepiece of the recently opened nendo: the space in between exhibition at Design Museum Holon, leading quartz manufacturer Caesarstone and renowned Japanese design studio nendo unveiled 'in the shade', a new commission that will remain part of the Museum's permanent collection.
Presented in the external courtyard and inspired by the strong effects of light and shadow in Israel, in the shade is constructed using a collection of 5 free-standing sheets of glass coloured by Glas Italia, supported by Caesarstone pedestals. Resembling the look of natural stone, the pedestals are created using a variety of Caesarstone designs in different tonalities, whilst the glass sheets embody the overall colour palette of the exhibition.
Appearing to divide light and shadow, the unison of the quartz along with the positioning of the glass evoke the feeling of being outdoors when looking from one side and indoors when looking through to the other side.
In addition, Caesarstone is presenting 'stone garden', a previous collaboration with nendo consisting of 155 table-like elements made out of ten different stone-shaped Caesarstone colours, clustered together to form a seemingly floating landscape.
Our first collaboration with Caesarstone was 'stone garden', an installation presented in 2013 at Interior Design Show Toronto, and then again in Milan and New York. Each time the piece was presented, the audience had a different, yet positive reaction, highlighting the many faces of Caesarstone and its diverse, expressive and talkative nature. I feel that some materials have the ability to talk to designers and possess a certain value and magic that inspires them. The more I work with Caesarstone, the more I feel that this material talks to me and inspires me to further delve into the creative process.– Oki Sato, nendo
