Yksi exhibition: Liberation of Light ON TOUR in Eindhoven

Dutch artists, architects and designers are rated amongst the worldwide frontrunners in applying new lighting technology such as LED and OLED. The exhibition Liberation of Light shows that LEDs are much more than small, sustainable 'lamps'. Light has literally been freed from the casing of that familiar bulb. A light revolution has manifest itself - as big as or perhaps even greater than the invention of the lightbulb 150 years ago.

'Liberation of Light' was first presented in the fall of 2010 at the Designhuis Eindhoven, where it attracted national and international praise. In 2011 the exhibition travelled to Beijing and Guangzhou in China. From March 9th till May 18th it was exhibited in Eindhoven again at Yksi Expo. Yksi constantly adds and changes the exhibitions content to insure that it represents the most enhanced technological developments in the field of lighting.

Poetic, living installations of light by Daan Roosegaarde, an evening dress that lights up more or less under the influence of the CO2-level in the air, an interactive light wall as educational children's toy, surprising lights and lighting objects by domestic and foreign leading artists and designers. From 25 September 2010 until 30 January 2011 the exhibition Liberation of Light was on show in the Designhuis at Eindhoven. A sneak preview in the future. The exhibition Liberation of Light shows that LEDs are much more than just smaller and more durable 'lights'. While a lot is said and written about the consumption, price and life span of LEDs, there is a lot less attention for the much more sweeping effects of the adoption of these new light sources.

What do we need to properly set up our future urban life? According to many forecasts the growth of cities will only proceed. This requires new ways of living, working and recreating together. What will the new work landscape look like? Are we going gather our income from changing networks, are we going to move more often, or not? How do leisure, work and recreation go together with the crowded cities?

Wat hebben we nodig om ons toekomstige urbane leven goed in te richten? Volgens veel voorspellingen zet de groei van steden voorlopig ongebreideld voort. Dat vereist nieuwe manieren van samen leven, werken en recreëren. Hoe ziet het nieuwe werklandschap eruit? Gaan we ons inkomen steeds meer in wisselende netwerken bij elkaar sprokkelen, gaan we vaker verhuizen of juist niet? Hoe verhouden vrije tijd, werk en recreatie zich in de druk bevolkte steden?
