North Georgia Waterfalls
#ilovervlife #georgiawaterfalls #vogelstatepark We were a few miles south of Blairsville, GA and took the afternoon to see some of the beautiful waterfalls in the area. All along Highway 19, we started at Vogel State Park, next to Helton Creek Falls and finished the day at DeSoto Falls. All are located along a 5 mile drive with easy access to each. We also stopped at a few spots along the way. A favorite is the Walasi-Yi Center and Mountain Store found at the top of Neel Gap located along the Appalachian Trail.

DeSoto Falls Campground Recon
DeSoto Falls Campground is a dry campground (no hook ups) in the Chattahoochee National Forest about 45 minutes from our house. We've driven past the entrance at least a dozen times always saying that we'd go there one day. There is a lower and upper falls with a .25 and .75 mile trail to each. The site fee to camp is $12 or for those with the annual or lifetime geezer pass only $6 per night. Last September we were determined to check it out and camp there. Unfortunately, that was the same time tropical storm Irma blasted through our area and the tree damage closed the campground for months. Then I read that the campground was open but both trails to the falls were still closed. Then recently we sold our truck camper only to discover that the trail to the lower falls had been reopened. Yoly and I decided to make a quick afternoon reconnaissance mission to check out the campground and lower falls in anticipation of our next foray into camping rigs .... stay tuned.

Exploring North Georgia Waterfalls / Helton Creek Falls / DeSoto Falls / Dick creek falls
We made a day trip in North Georgia exploring the waterfalls. The area we went to has a lot of waterfalls within a short drive apart. The map system may not be reliable in this area, a little bit of research before you make the trip will help. We first visited Helton creek Falls, then Desoto falls which is in a Bear active Chattahoochee Oconee forest, then last as we came to the end of the day we saw Dick creek falls, this was my favorite.

Camping At Vogel State Park, Blairsville, GA & Visiting Winston-Salem, NC Foothills Brewery
Vogel State Park located in Blairsville, Georgia was high on our list of places to visit. Brittany visited the park as a kid and had fond memories of it, but never stayed at the campground. The campground definitely did not disappoint. The campsites were spread out nicely and we backed up to a creek that led into a lake, all accessible via Vogel State Park. The only downfall of this campground was the lack of sewer hookups and the cell reception was pretty weak. We had to make trips down to the lake/visitor center in order to tap into wifi. For many, this won't be a big concern, however, for us that work online, we like to put that information out there. We tested both T-Mobile & Verizon, with a booster, and they were weak at best.
We visited De Soto Falls and drove into Dahlonega for lunch, a stroll around the square and got some work done at a coffee shop.
From Blairsville, GA, we were supposed to head to Ashville, NC, but the weather was not cooperating, so we altered our plans. We decided to head to Winston-Salem, NC, to meet up with Brittany's brother, girlfriend and furbaby. There was a Thousand Trails campground close by and we have a free pass that came with our GD purchase. We checked out the Twin Cities Hive, which was an awesome coffee shop to work from for digital nomads or anyone trying to crank out some work. The coffee was pretty great as well! We also checked out Foothills Brewery & Wise Man Brewery, both of which were dog-friendly and had an awesome selections of beers.

A Stroll At Helton Creek Falls, Georgia
Helton Creek Falls is a series of waterfalls in the mountains of Northern Georgia in the Chatahoochee National Forest. The falls are about two hours north of Atlanta right off of US Highway 19 close to Vogel State Park. The hike to the falls is short but steep at times and is surrounded by beautiful vegetation and springs. Helton Creek Falls is a really great place to visit during the summer time to cool off in the falls. Another great time to visit is in the Fall when the foliage is amazing.
In this video I show a nice spot on the way down to the falls. Then some footage of the lower and upper falls. After that I film a bit of me climbing up the side of the falls and exploring Helton Creek above the falls where there are some tall Hemlocks, beautiful Rhododendron, and Mountain Laurel.
It was a great hike and I hope that you enjoy the video.

Horse Trough Falls, Georgia
This beautiful falls is on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River and can be reached on a short 800' walk along a easy path. Horsetrough Trail leads to beautiful Horse Trough Falls, high in the Chattahoochee watershed. Beginning at the trail head sign to the falls follow the trail 200 yards to the observation platform which will provide an unobstructed view of the falls. In the winter, part of the camping area may be closed and it is possible that you will have to park at the entrance to the camping area and walk to the trail head, a distance of approximately 1/2 a mile.
Helton Falls Ga. (upper falls)
there are two waterfalls at Helton Falls ... this video was taken just after tornados came through the area... you can see the deck damage, from a fallen tree.
