Founder Acharya Srila Prabhupada.
Sri Sateeshan Namboodiripad, Thanthri of Guruvayur Devaswom inaugurated the function by
lighting the ceremonial lamp. He also received the first copy of the Malayalam version of Fourth

His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Maharaja in his discourse indicated that Goloka Retreats
is planned as the first phase of ISKCON's Guruvayur project. Later phases would include a
devotional museum complex equipped with Multimedia shows and displays, all for the purpose
of educating the numerous pilgrims who visit Guruvayur about the glories of Lord Krishna --
especially the importance of chanting the Lord's holy names while visiting the holy land of
Guruvayur. He mentioned that Lord Krishna has appeared as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in
Kaliyuga to distribute these holy names Hare Krishna to everyone. Just as persons staying
near a train station are sometimes more likely to miss their trains, he quipped that the people
residing in Guruvayur might take the grace of Lord Guruvayurappan for granted. He requested
the local people to be watchful of this tendency and take to devotional service of Lord
Guruvayurappan in all seriousness by chanting His Holy Names.
In his presidential address HH Bhakti Vinoda Swami noted that the residents of Guruvayur
as well as the devotees of ISKCON have a common mission - the mission to broadcast Lord
Guruvayurappan's glories all around the world. He therefore appealed to the social, political
leaders and citizens of Guruvayur to offer support to ISKCON's activities in Guruvayur, so that
everyone could serve Lord Guruvayurappan in a cooperative spirit. Hundreds of devotees from
various parts of Kerala as well as local visitors took part of this occasion.
