Devil's Peak - Cape Town
Shots taken from Devil's Peak, part of Table Mountain in Cape Town.
And now the stranger stood astride,
And taller he seemed to grow:
The pipe sat firm in his sneering lips,
And with victorious glow
Like dancing figures around its bowl
Did the smoke wreaths come and go.
- The Dutchman's Wager - Dante Gabriel Rossetti
The mountain got its name after the legend of Van Hunks, a prodigious pipe smoker who lived at the foot of the mountain circa 1700. One day, while smoking on the slopes of the peak, he met a mysterious stranger, and the two had a pipe-smoking contest. The stranger turned out to be the Devil and Van Hunks eventually won the contest.
.
Dedicated to all my friends who made the mountain our mystical playground, and my uncle Keith who showed me the way.

I'm a South African vlogger currently living in Wild Wild Somerset West, but I've kinda stayed all over the place - from Cape Town, Betty's Bay, Villiersdorp and even ... ehem...Kuilsriver. i'm not sure what the end game will be from this vlog. Right now I'm really just having fun recording and capturing parts of my day to day life. I find the editing process fun, challenging and massively rewarding.
Devil's Peak, Cape Town
Climbing Devil's Peak January 2016 Devil's Peak is one of the high mountains surrounding Cape Town in South Africa. From the top one has a panoramic view over CT and even Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. On the day we went up Devil's Peak we saw a container ship rolling onto its side, seemingly in trouble. Warning to any tourists visiting Cape Town: it is the murder capital of SA, and although most of these murders are gang-related, one needs to be very wary when climbing Table Mountain or Lion's Head or Devil's Peak - there have many tourists robbed (and worse) there. So, very importantly, STAY on the beaten tracks where you're always in view of other climbers (or descenders). Enjoy! :)

Cape Point,South Africa
Cape Point is a promontory at the southeast corner of the Cape Peninsula, which is a mountainous and scenic landform that runs north-south for about thirty kilometres at the extreme southwestern tip of the African continent in the Republic of South Africa. Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town are close to the northern extremity of the same peninsula. about 2.3 kilometres (1.4 mi) east and a little north of the Cape of Good Hope on the southwest corner. Although these two rocky and beautiful capes are very well known, neither cape is actually the southernmost point in Africa; that is Cape Agulhas, approximately 150 kilometres (90 mi) to the east-southeast.
The Cape of Good Hope
The Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa.
There is a misconception that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa, because it was once believed to be the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In fact, the southernmost point is Cape Agulhas, about 150 kilometres (90 mi) to the east-southeast. The currents of the two oceans meet at the point where the warm-water Agulhas current meets the cold water Benguela current and turns back on itself—a point that fluctuates between Cape Agulhas and Cape Point.
Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa, and is featured in the Flag of Cape Town and other local government insignia. It is a significant tourist attraction, with many visitors using the cableway or hiking to the top. The mountain forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.
The main feature of Table Mountain is the level plateau approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) from side to side, edged by impressive cliffs. The plateau, flanked by Devil's Peak to the east and by Lion's Head to the west, forms a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town. This broad sweep of mountainous heights, together with Signal Hill, forms the natural amphitheatre of the City Bowl and Table Bay harbour. The highest point on Table Mountain is towards the eastern end of the plateau and is marked by Maclear's Beacon, a stone cairn built in 1865 by Sir Thomas Maclear for trigonometrical survey. It is 1,086 metres (3,563 ft) above sea level, about 19 metres (62 ft) higher than the cable station at the western end of the plateau.
The cliffs of the main plateau are split by Platteklip Gorge (Flat Stone Gorge), which provides an easy and direct ascent to the summit and was the route taken by António de Saldanha on the first recorded ascent of the mountain in 1503.
The flat top of the mountain is often covered by orographic clouds, formed when a south-easterly wind is directed up the mountain's slopes into colder air, where the moisture condenses to form the so-called table cloth of cloud. Legend attributes this phenomenon to a smoking contest between the Devil and a local pirate called Van Hunks. When the table cloth is seen, it symbolizes the contest.
Table Mountain is at the northern end of a sandstone mountain range that forms the spine of the Cape Peninsula. To the south of the main plateau is a lower part of the range called the Back Table. On the Atlantic coast of the peninsula, the range is known as the Twelve Apostles. The range continues southwards to Cape Point.

Cape Town
Highlighting my adventures in and around Cape Town between May 18th and 23rd of 2014. I had an incredible experience seeing Great White Sharks and African Penguins, exploring Table Mountain and Lion's Head, and drinking by far the best beer I found anywhere in Africa at Devil's Peak Brewing Company.
