City in Australia
Devonport is a city in Tasmania, Australia. It's on the north coast, where the Mersey River meets Bass Strait. On the waterfront, the Bass Strait Maritime Centre has exhibits about early explorers, shipwrecks, and steamers.
Housed in an old church, the Devonport Regional Gallery is dedicated to Tasmanian art. Now a museum, Home Hill was the residence of former Australian prime minister Joseph Lyons in the early 1900s.

Princess of Tasmania to Devonport in the 1960s
Bass Strait Vehicle ferry Princess of Tasmania of the Australian National Line, arriving Webb Dock Melbourne and on board sailing to Devonport in the 1960s. Princess of Tasmania was owned and operated by the Australian National Line.
She was 4,619 tons and carried 334 passengers, 178 in cabins and 156 in lounge chair type accommodation. The seating was in three saloons situated one on each side of the funnel, while a bigger saloon was situated just behind the front full width deck.
There were three return voyages over the 230 miles between Melbourne and Devonport each week. Annual dry-docking was at Duke and Orres in the Yarra River near Spencer Street bridge
At the time of introduction in 1959, it was reportedly the longest drive-on drive-off service in the world. Princess of Tasmania was built at the State Dockyard Newcastle New South Wales and had a draught of 15 feet which allowed it to use the more direct shallow channel at the southern end of Port Phillip bay to and from the heads (as did Taroona), which saved considerable time and distance. It carried some 100 cars and caravans plus commercial vehicles and mail van. It was a twin screw motor vessel, and had four Ruston engines which provided 2,880 horsepower, for all services including the side thrust bow propeller.
Main engines were reportedly two nine cylinder, two stroke Nohab Polar type diesels each of 8,600 Brake Horsepower, built by Nybqvist and Holm of Trollhattan Norway.
Princess of Tasmania remained in service on the Bass Strait run until sold in 1972. Afterwards she had many different owners
and consequently had ten names over her 46 years of existence
and was scrapped at Alang, India in 2005. Another video of P.O.T. is at

MACCA racing Devonport Tasmania
Fritz, my cameraman and I were traveling all the way long from Frankfurt respectively Vienna to observe the race in Devonport. It was a very small race mainly focused on the competition between Australia and New Zealand. The Australian team order was to beat the Kiwis. If you know Macca, subordination is not really his business but anyhow I think he seriously tries and does a good job. He wants to give his very best for the team.
Fritz and I enjoyed Tasmania. What a remote and peaceful place! The time we spent there was much too short. For the meeting with possums and wallabies we definitely did have not enough time left. Hopefully there is another chance to withdraw there for a longer period of time. Our B&B was so beautiful, called the Silver Ridge Retreat close to the town of Sheffield, a wonderful place.
Excuse this drifting away, but if you travel that far into another universe, a race becomes so minute for the short instances you are there.
But now back to the competition... except Brandon Sexton nobody had a really good race. Brandon's run was great, no one could keep his pace. Chris came in with the 5th fastest run time which was not bad, but not good enough to make everything clear for the Olympics. So the procedure of qualifying is going to be dragging along.
Maybe Madrid will be the place where the final decision is made which is fairly late if one considers beginning of August being the date that decides about who is going to win the medals.
