Dhammayangyi Temple .. Bagan . Myanmar (Burma)
:
Location :
Dhammayangyi Temple (Burmese: ဓမ္မရံကြီးဘုရား, pronounced [dəma̰jàɴdʑí pʰəjá]) is a Buddhist temple located in Bagan, Myanmar. Largest of all the temples in Bagan, the Dhammayan as it is popularly known was built during the reign of King Narathu:167 (1167-1170). Narathu, who came to the throne by assassinating his father Alaungsithu and his elder brother, presumably built this largest temple to atone for his sins.
The Dhammayangyi is the widest temple in Bagan, and is built in a plan similar to that of Ananda Temple. Burmese chronicles state that while the construction of the temple was in the process, the king was assassinated by some Indians and thus the temple was not completed. Sinhalese sources however indicate that the king was killed by Sinhalese invaders.
The temple's interior is bricked up for unknown reasons, thus only the four porches and the outer corridors are accessible.

Bagan Schwezigon Pagoda
Shwezigon Pagoda-Nyaung U.
The Pagoda is a Buddhist temple located in a town near Bagan. It is a prototype of Burmese stupas (a mound-like structure containing Buddhist relics), and consists of a circular gold leaf gilded stupa surrounded by smaller temples and shrines. Construction of the Shwezigon Pagoda began during the reign of King Anawrahta (Considered the father of the Burmese nation, he turned a small principality in the dry zone of Upper Burma into the first Burmese Empire that formed the basis of modern-day Myanmar). It was completed in 1102 AD, during the reign of King Kyansttha of the Pagan dynasty. The pagoda is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded, is also referred to as the Buddha or most commonly simply as Buddha.. Within the compound of the Shwezigon Pagoda is a stone pillar containing Mon language inscriptions dedicated by King Kyansittha (The Mon script is derived from Indian Brahmi and is the source of the Burmese script).

Bagan Travel Guide - Myanmar Unique Moments
Bagan Travel Guide - Myanmar Unique Moments
Bagan is an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. The shape and construction of each building is highly significant in Buddhism with each component part taking on spiritual meaning.
Bagan became a central powerbase in the mid 9th century under King Anawratha, who unified Burma under Theravada Buddhism. It is estimated that as many as 13,000 temples and stupas once stood on this 42 sq km plain in central Myanmar, and Marco Polo once described Bagan as a gilded city alive with tinkling bells and the swishing sounds of monks' robes. Approximately 2,200 remain today, in various states of disrepair. Some are large and well maintained, such as the Ananda Pahto, others are small tumbledown relics in the middle of overgrown grass. All sites are considered sacred, so when visiting, be respectful including removing shoes as well as socks before entering or stepping onto them.
Bagan's golden age ended in 1287 when the Kingdom and its capital city was invaded and sacked by the Mongols. Its population was reduced to a village that remained amongst the ruins of the once larger city. In 1998, this village and its inhabitants were forcibly relocated a few kilometers to the south of Bagan, forming New Bagan where you will find accommodation in its handful of cheap, quaint, clean hotels and religious centers.
There are many places to eat in Old Bagan serving the traditional Burmese dishes, especially good old noodle soup. Some of the buffets are excellent; for about USD 4 you can eat to your heart's content from dozens of different traditional dishes. Most accommodation nowadays are found in New Bagan or Nyaung Oo. In Old Bagan, only some government-involved, luxury hotels remain. The most visited temples (but not necessarily the best) are located along the northern stretch of Nyaung Oo Rd. or at Nyaung Oo township and downwards before you arrive in Old Bagan. Don't forget that Bagan area and its 3000+ temples streches over a 20km x 20 km perimeter; if you really want to see and appreciate Bagan you'll need to rent a bike or a taxi or a horse cart, you can't do it on foot. Nyaung Oo town has the most budget accommodations.
You can take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise through 2 companies in Bagan one is called Balloons Over Bagan, around US$ 320 per person and the other is called Bagan Ballooning, US$ 350 per person with less people in the basket. The 2 companies operate from October till April.

Explore Bagan - Myanmar day 1
Follow Us as we share with you the things we did on the first day when we arrived in Bagan. Our adventure was off to a rather eventful start. With the sheer ignorance that Thingyan or Water Festival in conjunction with the Myanmar New Year was yet to be over, we rented a scooter only to U-turn back to the hotel to exchange for a hired car with driver. This was after we got ourselves and some of our equipment “blessed”. Hehe…
After a change of clothing and some waterproofing procedures for our equipment, we headed out again in the comfort of an air-conditioned car with a very helpful and friendly driver. He used to work in Malaysia for a couple of years, therefore communication was not an issue since Jim could speak Bahasa Melayu! He was nice enough to help us bargain for better prices when we were buying souvenirs at some of the shops along the way!
Our first day in Bagan was action-packed! We visited 2 local restaurants for lunch and dinner. In between our meals, we swung by an elephant camp to feed the elephants. It was unfortunate that we have missed the hot air balloon season. However, we managed to have a good vantage point of Old Bagan from a newly constructed viewing tower! We visited 3 temples within the day, with one of these offering a very stunning sunset, the mesmerising sight which we absolutely fell in love with. While preparing to leave for the hotel after our dinner at a local alfresco restaurant which serves delicious, affordable dishes, we chanced upon a Kayan lady aka long-neck lady weaving scarf outside a souvenir shop. This was where we bought souvenirs for friends and loved ones at home. We did not forget a photograph or two with the Kayan lady too!
A very fruitful day jam-packed with lots of activities and good food we must say! And the day which initially started out with a minor glitch turned out to truly be one with blessings in disguise as the day unfolds!
Let us know what you think of our Day 1 in Bagan in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you! :D

2- SHWEZIGON PAGODA

Bagan Myanmar: A place of wonder
Seeing the magical sunset from the top of a temple in Bagan is something that every traveller craves. We were one of the last lucky ones to do it before the full-ban of temple climbing in Bagan.
This is the story of our trip to Bagan.
27 Bikes in Bagan, Day 4, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel October 13, 2012
With our bikes from New Park Hotel, we explored many temples including:
Gu-byauk-gyi (wet-kyin) with incredible paintings but you cannot take photos or video for preservation reasons.
Gu-byauk-nge: Due to its smaller size, you can see all three of the four seated Buddhas at once. It has lovely celling paintings.
Alo-pyi
Ywe-haung-gyi
Ananda
That-byin-nyu
Shwe-gu-gyi—in this temple we went up to a higher level and could see the old city and a literal sea of stupas. There are thousands of stupas of all shapes and sizes. The building occurred over two hundred years and was at the same time that the Khmer were building Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
For lunch we stopped at Sarabha for cold water, chicken with cashew nuts and vegetable curry. The temple by Be nice to Animals restaurant is a yellow one with a mirror disco Buddha. I think it is either Min-o-chan-thar, or Tsu-taung-pyi.
At Ananda Paya there is restoration and reconstruction inside and out. We met part of the team from India. There are six restoration workers in Bagan for eight months working to restore the paintings. We were told it is a seven or eight year project with $11million dollars being spent by the Indian government. The four large standing Buddhas at Ananada are truly gigantic.
For sunset, we biked to near Buledi Temple. People used to climb Buledi but now that is not allowed any more. When George was in Bagan over ten years ago, you could climb nearly all the temples. Many are now closed to preserve the ancient wonders. The colors of the sunset highlighted the brick work on the surrounding temples. A stunning display of nature and buildings constructed for reverence.

Things to Do in Bagan, Myanmar - #walkwithus to Dhammayangyi Temple | Myanmar Travel Vlog |
One of the prominent temples in Bagan, Dhammayangyi Temple was built in 1170 with Structural resemblance to the Pyramids and is considered the widest temple in all of Bagan. Consisting of several corridors with just enough light penetration reflecting off Buddha statues, it indeed is a unique experience of worship. Just as the inside, outside of the temple offers glimpses of ancient architecture.

Shwe Yan Pyay pagoda , Myanmar | Canon HD | Virtual Trip
Shwe Yan Pyay, the unrecognized pagoda
Outside of Nyaungshwe, the relay town for Inle Lake, before and beyond the checkpoint, the landscape is also to be seen. The mountains reflected on the Tharzi Pond Lake all along the road offer beautiful shots.
On leaving the city it is always straight, there is only one road anyway, the one by which one arrives. Some tens of meters after the check point, one falls on a monastery and a temple d ' A rare beauty: Shwe Yan Pyay. The monastery can be visited, it is all wooden. One can meet a monk lonely, praying.Visit the interior of the monastery alone in the company of a monk carries beyond time ... The temple all white just Next to it, which does not pay a mine since having neither the shape nor the scale of a temple, conceals secrets that few tourists know. From the outside one does not expect to fall on a place So beautiful. It was all the more for us that we were absolutely alone inside, being able to wander in the corridors, to photograph, to film without incident. We nevertheless saw tourists arrive, but none is returned The walls are made up of hundreds of alcoves containing each of the Buddha statuettes, to the effigy of donors passed by the (all nationalities combined).

Shwezigon Pagoda - ရွှေစည်းခုံဘုရား VR 360° (Myanmar)
Circular gold leaf-gilded stupa in Nyaung-U, near Bagan.
バガン地区のニャンウーにある黄金の仏塔です。
This is a 360 degree video. Use your finger to swipe or mouse cursor to grab the screen and look around. No host. No voice-over. No music. Just pure immersion.
Completed in 1102 AD, this pagoda has seen a lot. It is also one of the oldest monuments near Bagan. It is a place of pilgrimage for many Buddhists. It was damaged by an earthquake in 1975, but has since been restored.
The symmetrical stupa is almost 49m (160 feet) tall.
I got there on an extremely hot, sunny day. You are not allowed to wear shoes and the ground can be burning hot.

Visiting Abandoned Temples of Bagan Myanmar-Travel History
Shwezigon Pagoda located near Nyaung U, It is taken into consideration to be the most significant one in Bagan, so it’s no surprise that you'll be surrounded by means of crowds of people. But, the Shwezigon Pagoda is truely magnificent, along with her gold leaf blanketed stupa… it reminds us lots of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. And additionally we located this unnamed pagodas and inconspicuous pagoda pretty by chance. Aware about the reality that you can acquire a remarkable view from the famous pagoda. We desired to discover one with a similar view however lesser regarded and not so crowded. Ultimately, we didn’t end up straying too a long way earlier than finding this vicinity. And that was virtually something unique.

We COULDN'T BELIEVE Our Eyes! | The Best Temples In Bagan, Myanmar
Looking for the best temples in Bagan, Myanmar? We spent 5 days in the ancient city and made it our goal to visit them all! It’s a fact—no image, video, or memory of Bagan, Myanmar can come close to portraying the magic that quite literally smacks you in the face upon arrival. Jaws were dropped, goosebumps were raised, tears were shed—this place is no joke.
We rented e-bikes for 4,000 kyat per person/per day in New Bagan and headed out on a full day, self-guided adventure, stopping off at all of the major players (Thatbyinnyu Temple, Ananda Temple, Dhammayangyi Temple, etc.) while making sure to cruise through the smaller, distant temples that you can claim all to yourselves (the latter was much more our style). Entrance to the historical region costs 25,000 kyat for foreigners, a small fee considering you’re good for 5-day unlimited use. You better believe we used every last day. :)
