Dharmadam Island or dharmadam thuruth is a small 6 acre island in Thalassery, Kannur District, Kerala. It lies 100 metres away from the mainland at Dharmadam. During low tide, one can just walk to the island from the main land. This island is covered with coconut palms. Near to it, there is a drive-in-beach, Muzhappilangad beach. Dharmadam, known earlier as Dharmapattanam, was a Buddhist stronghold. In 1998, Kerala Government took over this land for tourism development. Dharmadam is located 6 km away from Thalassery.

Dharmadam Island was a small 2 hectare private island in Thalassery, Kannur District, Kerala. It lies 100 metres from the mainland at Dharmadam. This island, covered with coconut palms and dense bush is a beautiful sight from the Muzhappilangad beach. During low tide, one can walk out to it from the beach.
It was scary initially when we heard that we have to walk all the way into the sea from beach to reach the island. But we were very curious to know how the island would look reaching into the other side. So we decided to get in . The water level was bit safer but the constant waves and rocks kept us thrilled until we reached the island. To our surprise there were no one except us in the island. We felt so happy that we took a bit of risk to reach there or else we would’ve missed such a beautiful experience.
