Hello guys! I'm an American named Nwando. Welcome to my Dhërmi, Albania travel vlog / diary. I hope this Dhermi video vlog can help guide your travel!
I had a great time partying and performing in Dhërmi, Vlorë, Albania! I arrived in Dhërmi by bus from Saranda. This bus takes the SH8 highway route (it goes all the way to north Albania). The bus left at 11am in the morning and arrived in Dhermi at around 1pm. The main road that connects from SH8 to Dhermi is called Rruga Perivolo. Most hotels and airbnbs are along Rruga Perivolo, which starts at the top of the SH8 and ends at the beach. My airbnb was about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop located on the SH8 and Rruga Perivolo corner, and 10 minute walk to the beach.
Dhermi is a small beach town that is located south of Tirana and Vlorë (Vlora) by about 5 and 3 hours each, and north of Saranda. It is about 30-45 mins by bus from Himara (Himare). I have heard there is an hourly shuttle bus between Dhërmi and Himarë, but I did not use it. Some other nearby beaches and towns are Drymades, Palasë, Jal (Jala), Vuno, Gjipe, Llagora Pass and Porto Palermo. I would suggest to stay in Dhermi if you do not have a car. If you are staying at the Sea Turtle camping in Drymades, you can actually get off at the Dhermi stop as well and walk down Rruga Perivolo and veer right down the path instead of left which takes you to Dhermi's beach and strip.
I really wanted to visit nearby Jal and Gjipe, but I was not able to because I did not have a car. It is really difficult to visit nearby towns without a car unless you hitchhike, do a lot of long walking or are willing to pay for a taxi that will probably cost at least 20 euro to visit these neighbor towns only 10-15 minutes away by car! Sucks! I really really wanted to check out Folie Marine (or is it Folie Marina ??) because it seems like the best night club north of nightclubs in Sarande. I have seen so many beautiful pics from Prive Lounge as well on Instagram. But unfortunately, not having a car and being on a budget greatly held me back. While I was in Dhermi, I spent most of my time partying at Havana Beach Bar. It was the most busy bar. I also performed there so it has a very special place in my heart. You can see my show in my other Dhermi vlogs.
Last thing I want to say is that there is a 2nd Havana Beach Bar location in Palase, so it might seem like the club is not as busy and happening in my videos compared to other videos you have seen about Havana Beach Bar online, and that is because the videos you see online are from the location in Palase. I just wanted to clarify that. The Dhermi location is definitely more quiet and not as much as a big DJ party as the Palase location.
And the last thing I want to say is... because everyone asks me, but there is no problem being black in Albania as a traveler. I have experienced ZERO racism in Albania. The Balkans is the most friendly place I have ever traveled to and a traveler being black in Albania is not an issue AT ALL. VISIT ALBANIA!!! :)
I can't wait to go back to Dhermi and visit all the nearby places I wanted to visit so much but was not able to. Të dua Dhermi!

Amazing Albania
Dhërmi,
Dhërmi is famous for its crystal-clear waters and small, intimate pebble beaches, such as Jaliksari, Shkambo, and Gjipea. Situated at the foot of a 70 m cliff, Gjipea is a rare wonder. Close to Dhërmi is the legendary Cavern of the Pirates. Dhërmi is a picturesque village thought to have first been inhabited in 49-48 BC. The village is home to the Monastery of Shën Maria, the Church of Shën Todhri, the Church of the Ipapandia and the Church of Shën Mitri, with frescos dating from the 12th-14th centuries. The main leisure activities in Dhërmi are swimming, water sports, and diving. There are many hotels, restaurants, bars, and discotheques. The restaurants combine traditional and foreign cuisines, and serve many seafood specialties.
Palasa
After passing Qafa e Llogarasë on a road that dates back to the time of Pompey, you descend into the Albanian Riviera. This warm Mediterranean zone has nearly 300 sunny days a year. The first beach to visit is Dhraleo (Palasë), known for its clear waters. Pompey and his army stopped at this beach in ancient times, when it was known as Palestra.
Gjipe
Gjipe Beach is located between the two towns of Dhermi and Vuno in southern Albania. It’s a secluded beach that is at the end of a canyon called Gjipe Canyon. There is no asphalt road to Gjipe Beach yet and that is what is saving it from the crowds. In order to get there you need to walk about half an hour from the asphalt road on a small track. It’s a very pretty walk with fantastic view of the sea and the south albanian coast, so it’s no punishment at all to get there, as long as you are fit enough for a 30 minute trek.

Dhermi Albania (Beautiful Beach) 2019
Dhermi Albania has one of the best beach lines in the world. It is almost private based on the amount of traffic the town hosts. I trust this will change soon as the word gets out on the beauty of Dhermi. Here is a look at the waves crashing along the coast in July.

Drymades Beach
Hidden behind a mountain range, the main beach of Drymades is actually stony, but turn left and walk for 10 minutes and you’ll find completely empty white sand beaches. The sea is unbelievably clear, and it’s a nice tepid temperature. A nearby orange orchard adjacent is home to the Sea Turtle campsite which has pre-pitched tents, with foam mattresses and clean bedding. There is a kitchen bar, a shop selling fresh food and essentials and a sandwich van visits the beach daily.(Source:theguardian.com)

If there’s one thing that needs to be clear about this beach is the name. It’s Jali, neither Jala nor Jale. The second most important about Jali is that it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Albania. If you never been to Jali, don’t miss the chance to explore it this summer. A five km road in Vuno Village on the right side of Vlora-Saranda national road takes to Jali beach. It runs among centennial olive trees and down to small bay on the coast of the Ionian Sea. For many years, Jali used to welcome officers of the Albanian armed forces and their families during the summer season. The hotel is located on a small hilltop and overlooks the Ionian Sea. They say, that the hotel of the officers was built as a summer residence for the Albanian rulers of the communist regime during the 70’s, but it was former dictator Enver Hoxha, who decided to turn it into a summer hotel for officers and their families and it’s still functional. Steep stairs lead to the beach.
Now, jail is the destination of all types of vacationers from the rich ones that anchor their yachts in the bay to backpackers that sleep on tents in local camps.
The beach is the strongest point of this small coastal village. The sea water is among the cleanest and stunning in the entire Riviera. The beach is the main area where several bars, restaurants, and even pubs are found. The blue water, the half-moon shaped bay, the surrounding olive groves and beautiful sunsets are the key traits of Jali Beach.
Nightlife is the terms but the party never stops at the beach bars and summer clubs. Foam party’s in Ibiza style are organized during the weekend people dance the night away to the sound of the best Albanian and international DJs. If Jali’s nightlife isn’t enough, there are other great clubs to explore nearby in Dhermi.
