[4K] BROADSTAIRS, KENT WALKING TOUR - Viking Bay to Charles Dickens' Bleak House
How do we afford to travel so often? We're lucky enough to stay for almost free in every city, using
Walk with us through picturesque Broadstairs. This small English town with links to Charles Dickens has to be one of the most beautiful towns in Europe and is surely among the top 10 towns in UK.
We begin our walk through Broadstairs at Victoria Gardens, overlooking Viking Bay - (Broadstairs beach.)
Our tour takes us past the Dickens House Museum, along both Charlotte and Albion Street , past Balmoral Gardens and down Harbour Street to the seafront. From we wind up the path to Bleak House.
This is not the actual Bleak House referred to his novel, (it was renamed from Fort House after his death,) Charles Dickens did stay here every summer, and wrote many novels from here. You can stay in Dickens' original bedroom and use the study where he wrote David Copperfield.

London 2010: The Dickens House Museum
A video from my visit to the Dickens House Museum in Doughty Street in London last month (February 2010). This is the only one of the houses Charles Dickens lived in around the city that is still extant. The Museum has a nice collection of ... Dickensia? :-) and is well worth a visit.

Places to see in ( Broadstairs - UK )
Broadstairs is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England, about 80 miles east of London. Broadstairs is part of the civil parish of Broadstairs and St Peter's, which includes St Peter's.
Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the Jewel in Thanet's crown. The town's crest motto is Stella Maris (Star of the Sea). The name derives from a former flight of steps in the chalk cliff, which led from the sands up to the 11th-century shrine of St Mary on the cliff's summit.
Broadstairs town spreads from Haine Road in the west to Kingsgate (named after the landing of King Charles II in 1683) a hamlet in St Peter parish in the north and to Dumpton in the south (named after the yeoman Dudeman who farmed there in the 13th century). The hamlet of Reading (formerly Reden or Redyng) Street was established by Flemish refugees in the 17th century.
The town lies above a harbour with cliffs on either side. Broadstairs has seven bays of golden sand, which are (from south to north) Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay, Viking Bay, Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay. North Foreland rises between Stone Bay and Joss Bay. On the cliffs above Kingsgate Bay is Kingsgate Castle, formerly part of the estate of Lord Holland but now converted into private residences. Broadstairs has a very mild maritime climate.
The town of Broadstairs is situated 20 miles (32 km) from both Dover and Canterbury, and about 60 miles (97 km) from the M25, London's orbital motorway. Broadstairs is also served by Southeastern train services to/from London, via either North Kent and Medway or Canterbury and High Speed 1. It is unusual in that trains to London can run either way through the station.

COMPLETE WALK OF ROCHESTER HIGH STREET DURING DICKENS FESTIVAL MEDWAY KENT ENGLAND
What an amazing day. #Medway is proud of its association with the writer Charles Dickens and the Dickens Festival has celebrated these lasting connections every year since 1978.
The #Rochester area was the inspiration for many of Dickens' greatest works. Indeed, Restoration House in Rochester was Satis House in Great Expectations, where Miss Havisham lived. #charlesdickens #greatexpectations
Charles Dickens spent five of his childhood years in Medway from 1817 to 1822. He was an international legend when he returned for the last 13 years of his life, dying at Gad's Hill in 1870.
During this annual event you will experience old favourites, from our wonderful parades, which are always full of colour and people dressed in fantastic Victorian costumes, to our competitions, street entertainment, displays and readings.
The Dickens Festival's unique combination of music, dance, drama and street theatre has rightly earned it a place in the south-east tourism calender as one of the key events of the summer.
