Overlooking Caernarfon Bay is the prehistoric coastal fort of Dinas Dinlle, a site that has puzzled archaeologists for many years. Thought to have been constructed during the Iron Age period over 2,000 years ago, the fort would have been a hugely impressive and visible monument dominating a flat landscape of prehistoric wetlands and bogs. Evidence of several possible roundhouses can still be seen as slight earthworks inside of the fortifications, indicating that there was likely to have been some form of settlement at the site. However, whether it was settled permanently, seasonally, or only during times of conflict is currently unknown.
Unfortunately, due to increased storminess and coastal erosion approximately 25% of the entire monument has been lost over the last 150 years. Before more is lost the CHERISH team will survey and investigate the site using the most up-to-date techniques to gain a much-improved understanding of this impressive monument and its surrounding landscape.

A larger than it appears chalet bungalow on the quiet Aberdesach beach with full length picture windows in the lounge where the magnificent view of the sea and mountains (see above) can be enjoyed. Imagine this - a bottle of wine, the red evening sunset and the sound of the waves lapping on the beach. The mainly sandy beach with rock pools is just 10m from the front door, the sea 30m. Aberdesach is a tiny seaside hamlet 8 ml west of Caernarfon and 12ml east of Nefyn. Clynnog Fawr (1ml) has the nearest shop and now a bar/restaurant for a relaxing drink, occasional entertainment and meals. Closest Inn is the Harp Inn, Llandwrog (3ml). Wild mountain goats roam the Eifl mountains that dominate this quiet Llyn Peninsula coastline. Snowdon Mountain Railway, Padarn lake, country park, indoor climbing centre 14 ml. Caernarfon castle & harbour, leisure centre and shops 8ml.
