Ireland Cycling Tours - County Kerry & Dingle Bike Tour
County Kerry contains some of Ireland's most iconic scenery, with sea cliffs carved by the wild Atlantic Ocean, and soft golden baches, emerald-green farmland criss-crossed by stone walls, mist-shrouded bogs and cloud-torn mountain peaks.
You NEED to cycle Ireland:
Drive the DINGLE PENINSULA | Things to do in DINGLE| Ireland (2of2)
In part 1 we drove the Ring of Kerry in a day and now it's time to drive the Slea Head Drive on the Dingle Peninsula in a day and compare!
Which one is more stunning?
Spending the night in Dingle town, we got to feel the charm and tradition of Ireland. Colourful shops, pubs and B&B's make this an exciting and delightful place to stay over.
Join as we have a few drinks in Dick Mack's, the Dingle pub and end the night in An Droichead Beag for some toe tapping accordion music and Guinness.
Starting our drive in a clockwise route the next morning, we hug the coastline and soon arrive at Fahan and the Beehive Huts. There are two places to stop, the second is larger and has better facilities if you need the toilet on route. (Probably the last stop before you have completed the Slea Head Drive)
The road starts cutting into the cliff face and the narrow winding roads start to become challenging, especially if you meet a car coming in the other direction.
There are various stopping points where a few cars at a time can pull in safely. The Slea Head Cross is one of those.
Dunquin, near the ferries entrance has some stunning walks along the rugged coast. Take a detour off the Sleu Head route follow the signs for the ferries and you will soon arrive!
In all you could drive round in about an hour but with all the stops you need to do expect to spend at least 3 or 4 hours on this amazing drive.
Back in Dingle there is a second attraction that many forget or don’t see if on a tour. Conor Pass. Heading out of Dingle north you start to climb the hills quickly and your ears soon pop as you rise up over 2000 ft.
Conor Pass on a good day ( we had a bad wet day) offers panoramic views across Ireland. Top tip: don’t just stop at the top and come back into Dingle, carry on the drive all the way back down before it re-joins the N86 near Camp. You won’t regret it!

High up on Clogher Head... .. Dingle Peninsula
This is a truly marvelous awesome experience. ..out here on Clogher Head an ancient rocky promontory high up above the Atlantic ocean- an ancient place of immense unspoilt beauty and teaming with flora and wonder-the wildflowers and lichens abound and the sights and sounds are breathtaking- it can be a little scary to say the least as the paths are narrow and steep edged and are often very wet and slippy- today luckily after an unusually dry summer walking was a lot easier although still boggy in parts-at one point on my way back down i took a different route and ended up on what must have been a sheeps path - admittedly i was near terror struck for several yards as the path was extremely narrow and the drop below was a long way down into very deep water-with flipflops on my feet and camcorder in left hand i managed to edge myself along knowing inside that i was protected and my time on earth was not yet up.. it was a relief to get on safer ground none the less- loved it- not a place for pets or children as can be extremely unsafe- please excuse the wobbles but i was standing between the rocks on a narrow part and it was quite breezy- a beautifull place- i was so amazed and filled with gratitude to see all the plant life here- the land is covered in various flowers and shrub plants and lots of lichen and ancient mosses and rock plants cover the craggy stones -also a brilliant place to watch seabirds like the Gannet glide by or dive for their feed- September evening 4 - 2014-...best viewed on full screen

Through Ring of Kerry in Ireland
