Shanghai Vlog: Playa Maya Water Park!
instagram.com/timandglo
August 24, 2014
Playa Maya Water Park opened in Shanghai in 2013. It's easily accessible my metro. Just take Line 9 to SheShan Station then follow the crowds up the escalation and across the overpass to the free shuttle buses. Be careful, though, because there are two destinations. One route will take you to Playa Maya while the other will take you to the amusement park Happy Valley.
Admissions was 180 RMB per adult. If you enter the park after 4:00 pm, the cost of admissions drops to 140 RMB. You're not allowed to take any water or food into the park, which inevitable means that food and beverage cost a bit more inside the park than outside. Truthfully, you could probably sneak some snacks and drinks in if you wrap them in clothing or towels and put them at the bottom of your bag. ;)
The park was TONS of fun! It opened at 10:00 am and it was starting to get busy by the time we arrived at 10:45 ish. We played the whole day and stayed until 4:30.
There are lots of slides but seem to be more group/tube slides than single person slides, which we loved. Kids have to be at least 130 cm tall for most of the slides. There's a large section exclusively for children. Playa Maya also has a cool scuba diving pool, but it's small and pricey, 180 RMB for just 20 minutes. They also offer underwater fashion shoots and wedding shoots, but those cost even more. There's certainly something for everyone!
We definitely hope to go back next year!
Thanks for watching!!

1 KM RAPID RIVER - longest in the world - Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park
We tried out the newest and longest rapid river in the world: Lava Drifting of 1 KM long! The ride has 3 lifthills, 4 drops and is extremely fun. It opened a few days ago on the 1st of may.
Haichang Ocean park openend in November 2018 and combines animals with themepark attractions. The best rides are this waterslide and an Intamin multilaunch coaster. It is a 1,5 hour train ride from Shanghai centre.
Unfortunately the camera went down in the last few seconds of the ride.

Darkness Falls and Light Returns to Shanghai Beach
This video shows the reactions of our Betchart Expeditions / The Planetary Society travel group to the start and end of totality during the solar eclipse of July 22, 2009. We were located on a beach in Jinshanwei near Shanghai, China. Unfortunately, while we saw some of the partial phases, the Sun was completely obscured by clouds during all of totality. Nevertheless, the rapid descent into darkness and equally rapid return of light almost 6 minutes later was remarkable to experience, as we hope you can see from our video. Look closely and you'll see that the sky is subtly darkening throughout the start of the video, but this becomes much more rapid when totality starts about 1:30 into the video. Tony Hoffman can be seen shooting his own video of the eclipse in the foreground. You can watch it at

上海建成亚洲最高水滑道 / New water slide in Shanghai, the highest of Asia
