You know me, I'm always mixing things up and sharing things I personally enjoy... Well one of the things I do enjoy, being a National Trust member is going on walks, visiting castles and just getting up in the mountains! now North Wales has some of the best landscapes you will ever wish to see.

Slate Quarry Beware - Other Colour Pics Share This Title (1962)
Port Dinorwic, Caernarvonshire, Wales.
L/S of the world's largest slate quarry, tilt down to show a steam train at the bottom of the pit. M/S of a man drilling a hole into the rock face. C/U of the man, he wears a hard hat. C/U of the drill boring into the rock. Low angle shot of the man drilling. Panning shot down the rock face to where two men are at work. M/S of the man taking the drill out of the rock face, another man enters and fills the hole with dynamite. C/U of the dynamite going into the hole, it is then plugged with paper. C/U of the fuse about to be lit. C/U of the man. C/U of the fuse catching light. M/S of three men walking to a shelter made from slate. L/S of the quarry, an explosion dislodges a large lump of slate. L/S of two men dislodging boulders from the rock face, tilt down as the slate falls into the quarry.

Duke of Edinburgh visits Dinorwic Slate Quarries. He drives a locomotive of a little train, with officials behind. Various images of smoking chimney, people working and Duke browsing. Train takes Duke and officials in the mountain to the quarry itself. Quarry workers wave to Prince Philip. A few shots of a mountain with workers hanging off the cliffs. Duke talks to the workers.

Slate Quarry Beware - Other Colour Pics Share This Title (1964)
Penrhyn, Wales.
Work that takes place in a slate quarry. Views of the quarry. Various shots of men at work. We see them drilling holes in a rock face and placing gun powder inside the hole. Ballast follows it. The fuse is lit. Blasting takes place. Small explosion. Men climb down into the quarry then prise pieces of slate off the side of the quarry.
Trucks carrying slate travel past the camera. The slate is transported via small trains and a hoist. Men then push the trucks of slate into the work room. Various shots of the slate being cut - both by hand and by machine. Edges are cut off by a machine.
Parts of the slate quarry are to be preserved as ancient industrial monuments. As narrator states: Efficient though it is, it hardly seems to belong to this day and age.

Welcome to this surreal landscape of endless piles of grey rock with a backdrop of the highest peak in Wales. 28 lines have been established
here so far in 7 different areas. Whist waiting for the lines explore the myriad of tunnels, ladders, old building and machinery. This place is great for a big gathering but the wind and the sharp rocks are something to watch out for!

Slate-sawing Machine House, Dinorwic Slate Quarry
An industrial building, full of slate-sawing machines, at the huge, disused slate quarry at Dinorwic, North Wales. Slate was positioned on a movable iron bed, that was then gradually slid horizontally as a circular saw cut the slate into convenient sizes. Originally, powered by steam but at a later date, changed to electrical motor.

On the flanks of Snowdon, Amgueddfa Lechi Cymru - National Slate Museum tells the very special story of the slate industry in Wales.
Dinorwig Quarry closed in 1969. Today, rather than fashioning wagons and forging rails, the workshops tell a very special story: the story of the Welsh slate industry.

Exploring an incredible looking abandoned slate quarry in Snowdonia, North Wales.
We travel in our van, Oliver the VW T4.
Snowdonia is one of our favourite locations for a road trip, the scenery is beautiful, very easy to find somewhere to sleep and always a great adventure.

The Dinorwic Slate Quarry is a large former slate quarry, now home to the Welsh National Slate Museum, located between the villages of Llanberis and Dinorwig in north Wales.
