I’ve been going on dinosaur digs around the Victorian coast for a few years now. This year I asked if I could vlog what we do, and this video is the end result. You’ll be taken on a very brief tour of the work we do on a dinosaur dig and how our work contributes to exhibitions around the world.

This video was shot and recorded on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded land of the Boonwurrung people. They are the Indigenous Australians of the Kulin nation, who occupy South-Central Victoria, Australia.

Budding paleontologists have hit the ground in Inverloch with the hope of making the ultimate prehistoric discovery.

The dig to find dinosaur bones and footprints comes just weeks after one was vandalised.

Meet the everyday people digging up ancient fossils on the Dinosaur Dreaming Project

Have you ever wanted to have an animal named after you? Some of Museums Victoria's volunteers have that honour.

Hour after hour and day after day, they sit or stand together and meticulously break up rocks.

Since 1984 more than 700 individuals whose combined efforts have brought to light these fossils in what has been dubbed “The Dinosaur Dreaming Project”.

Who are these people? Exactly what are they doing? And what brings them to do it?

Digging For Dinosaurs at Hell Creek Formation, South Dakota

The 115million-year-old footprint was from a theropod that was discovered in 2006
An ice-age dinosaur footprint that is 115 million years old has been destroyed by vandals who have been branded sad and callous.

The footprint was from a theropod and was discovered in 2006.

The medium-sized print was found at Flat Rocks in Victoria, Australia and is one of only a handful of ice-age dinosaur sites in the world.

But as officials were about to show it off to a group of visiting school children, they found it had been deliberately ruined.
Parks Victoria ranger Brian Martin told Seven News : It is sad to think a person or persons who knew the location of the footprint would deliberately damage an important local icon that is recognised as being of international scientific significanc.

Soon after its 2006 discovery, palaeontologists made a silicon rubber mould of the find.

But rather than remove and store it at a museum, they decided to leave it in the rock, so visitors could enjoy seeing it in its natural state.

It is located at an area known as the Dinosaur Dreaming site within the rocky Bunurong Marine Park, discovered in 1991 and which has yielded thousands of bones and teeth.

Parks Victoria said the footprint was significant as it represented a moment frozen in time when a meat-eating dinosaur stood on that spot.
This differs from the recovery of bones from fossil layers in the area that have been deposited there by ancient fast-flowing rivers.

Mike Cleeland, from the Bunurong Environment Centre, said he hoped the footprint could be repaired.

The thrill of seeing a real dinosaur footprint has been diminished with the callous act of vandalism.

Fortunately, I was able to retrieve some of the broken pieces of the footprint and hopefully the technicians at Museum Victoria may be able to restore the footprint to some degree.
