Fossilized Dinosaur Eggs Unearthed in S China
A total of 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs were found at a construction site in south China's Guangdong Province last Sunday afternoon.
Archaeologists in the city of Heyuan unearthed at the site a nest of 43 dinosaur eggs, 19 of which are intact.
The dinosaur egg fossils have been sent to the city's dinosaur museum for protection and research.
The eggs each measures 10-13 centimeters, according to Du Yanli, curator of the museum.
Geological dating shows that these eggs are dated back to the late Cretaceous period 65 million years ago, said Du.
But it remains unknown as to which type of dinosaur the eggs belonged to, Du said.
Nearly 17,000 dinosaur egg fossils have been unearthed in Heyuan city since a group of fossils was discovered in 1996 by children playing at a building site.
In 2005, the city's museum earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records on account of its 10,008 dinosaur egg fossils, the largest such collection in the world.

Chinese boy discovers dinosaur eggs on river bank in China's Heyuan
A 9-year-old boy named Zhang Yangzhe discovered fossilized dinosaur eggs dating back to the late Cretaceous Period (66 million years ago) in southern China. The video, filmed in Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, on July 23, shows a man from the local dinosaur museum uncovering 11 dinosaur egg fossils around the one spotted by Zhang. According to reports, Zhang and his mom went to play near Dongjiang Bridge, and when he was about to take a picture with the bridge, he found an eggshell. Since Zhang had just visited the dinosaur museum and saw various dinosaur egg fossils, he spotted the dinosaur eggshell and informed the local museum.

Chinese roadworkers unearth nest of FORTY-THREE fossilised dinosaur eggs
A giant clutch of 43 fossilised dinosaur eggs were discovered by workmen doing roadworks in China.
The egg-straordinary find was made in the city centre of Heyuan, south-east China, by workman laying a sewage pipe.
The giant fossils, which included 19 eggs that are fully intact, were the first to be found in the city and are now being studied by experts from the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, to determine the type, the People's Daily Online reports.
Each range from 10 to 12 centimetres in diameter and have been well preserved by the red sandstone beds in the area.
One worker even tried to flee the scene with two of the rare fossils but was stopped and eventually fled empty-handed.
Passers-by then formed a human chain to protect the site until police came and the artifacts were taken away for examination.
Head curator Du Yanli said: ‘There are fossilised dinosaur eggs everywhere in the red sandstone layer but they were never found because the city was built on top of the layers.
'With the recent road and sewage system upgrade, the red sandstone layer is being exposed and has led to the discovery of the fossils’.
The Heyuan Dinosaur Museum said that more than seventeen thousand fossilised dinosaur eggs have been found in China since the first discovery in 1996.

Haul of dinosaur egg fossils are discovered by workers carrying out road repairs in Southern China
Road workers have discovered dozens of dinosaur egg fossils buried under a city. A total of 43 eggs, 19 of which were fully intact, were found by workers carrying out road repairs in the city of Heyuan, in southern China's Guangdong Province. It is likely that the eggs will be somewhere between 65 and 230 million-years-old, dating back to the Mesozoic Era when Tyrannosaurus Rex and company roamed the Earth. Archaeologist Du Yanli, who runs the local dinosaur museum, said the eggs were grouped together in 14 different fossils, with the largest egg measuring 13cm in diameter. Tests will now be carried out to establish the species of the dinosaur eggs. Yanli said: The eggs were found in the rock strata of red sandstone, an environment in which other dinosaur egg fossils have also previously been found. Further examination of the fossils is required to determine the species of the dinosaur eggs. Something of a dinosaur hotspot, Heyuan has seen its fair share of dinosaur discoveries, with bones, footprints and eggs all found in the region in the not so distant past. However, the most recent discovery is the largest of its kind in the city centre. Yuanli urged residents and construction workers to be cautious if they make a discovery, and asked them to inform authorities if they find anything dinosaur-related. In 2004, the Heyuan Dinosaur Fossil Museum was recognised by the Guinness World Records for housing the world’s largest collection of dinosaur egg fossils - 10,008 to be exact.

Chinese boy discovers nest of 65 million-year-old dinosaur eggs
A science-loving schoolboy has accidentally discovered a nest of fossilised dinosaur eggs while playing outdoors in China. Experts believe the 11 eggs, each about 3.5 inches long, date back some 66 million years to the late Cretaceous period just before the ancient beasts were wiped out. The third-grade pupil said he initially saw a 'strange stone' in the soil, but realised it could be a dinosaur egg after checking the object closely. Experts confirmed his speculation before excavating 10 more eggs nearby.
