It’s easy to spot the Venetian Island of Burano from the sea. The jewel-colored homes act like a beacon, which is what they were intended to be. According to , local fisherman started painting their homes in bright colors—hues of orange, red, yellow, and purple—so they could see them while out fishing in the fog and could follow their colors back home. Now, the practice has become law, and if you live on the island and want to paint your home, you must ask for permission from the government, who will assign your home a color. For visitors, the homes are just a welcome dose of cheerfulness.

MURANO and BURANO, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Venice! Check this islands if you're around Venice, Italy.
Check out my previous Vlog where I explore Venice for the first time:
On my previouse Vlog I was with my colleague Amber exploring the city center of Venice and we were amazed on how beautiful it was.
We saw the most famous places of the city like Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square, Bridge of Sights.
We also walked around the city center through those narrow streets and small bridges, I have to advise you to really use Google Maps in order not to get lost, it is so easy to get lost here in Venice, Italy.
This time I was with my girlfriend Ines and we went to explore the islands of Murano and Burano. They are beautiful and very colorful, they used to be fisherman islands and now are very touristic places.
When we got to Murano we were supposed to go to the glass factory but it was closed alredy that is why I'm not showing it on the video, sorry for that. Next time I go there I'll go there earlier so I can show you them making glass.

Venice Best Place: Murano and Burano - Travel & Discover
Murano was initially settled by the Romans and from the sixth century by people from Altinum and Oderzo. At first, the island prospered as a fishing port and through its production of salt. It was also a centre for trade through the port it controlled on Sant'Erasmo. From the eleventh century, it began to decline as islanders moved to Dorsoduro. It had a Grand Council, like that of Venice, but from the thirteenth century, Murano was ultimately governed by a podestà from Venice. Unlike the other islands in the Lagoon, Murano minted its own coins.

The Colorful Island of Burano - Italy 2019
A colorful, tilted, little Venice. That is Burano island in a nutshell. But it is much more than that. Burano island is a little island in the northern part of the Venice lagoon. To get to Burano take ACTV line 12 vaporetto ferry which is a 40 minute ride. To say that this island is full of colors, is an understatement. All the houses are of a different color and the island is filled with little waterways, and not to forget the leaning bell tower of St. Martin Bishop church, which is the first thing that you'll notice even before reaching the island. If you visit Venice, this is a must place to see.

SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit beautiful Burano which is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy, near Torcello at the northern end of the Lagoon, known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes. The primary economy is tourism. Burano is known for its small, brightly painted houses, which are popular with artists. The colours of the houses follow a specific system, originating from the golden age of its development. If someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.
Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as landmark art and ancient ruins. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.

Burano, Murano, Torcello 3 Island Tour
We made a full day of exploring the 3 islands in the Venetian lagoon near Venice.
First, we bought an un limited water bus day pass for 20 euro per person. This allowed us to use the water buses free all day long as many times as we wanted. Otherwise yo have to pay 7.5 euro per one way, per person.
Of the 3 islands, Murano is the busiest, Murano second and Torcello is the quietest and smallest.
The water bus (boats) run fairly often and get crowded so make sure to appropriately time your journey if you are short on time or take your time and simply explore.
Don't confuse the water bus with the water taxi. Water taxi are in fact, a taxi service and cost a lot more.
Most people go straight to Murano as it is a shorter ride and spend about an hour enjoying the glass shops that are famous for their Murano glass.
Next, it's easy to visit Burano as it is s short journey by water bus and that is where you find all the colorful houses. I suggest to simply get lost and enjoy the colorful houses.
Lastly, Torcello, the smallest island is just a short boat ride away and is the quietest and smallest of the three. You need only 1 hour or less to explore.
You can take the water bus directly back to several major stops in Venice including San Marco Square and Piazzale Roma.
You'll catch the airport transfer from Piazzale Roma.
You can also store luggage at the central train station in Venice island.

Venice and Burano, Italy at a glance
The patina that casts its ageless shadow over Venice makes it one of the most unique and interesting places in the world. Venice is also one of the most recognizable cities due to the fact that there are no roads or cars, but rather a labyrinthine series of canals and pedestrian-only alleyways. All visitors of Burano remain intrigued by the many colours and the coloured houses that are reflected into the green waters of channels, by the leaning bell tower, by the tranquility and the calmness with which the elderly ladies embroider original Burano lace by their tombolo (or lace pillow), while they are laughing and chatting in squares among them. It seems to be in paradise. Children who dart freely with their bicycles, balconies with multicolored flowers, fishermen who put up fresh fish from their traditional boats.

Beautiful Venice and Picturesque Burano. It is easy to loose yourself in Venice with its many streets and canals to explore aimlessly and wonder at its many sights including St Mark's Square & Basilica, The Doge's Palace (a must for history and architecture lovers), the famous bridge of sighs and Rialto Bridge and more. A boat ride to the island of Burano to discover this quaint fishing village with its colourful houses, streets and restaurants is highly recommended. A 40 minute ferry ride from Venice, Italy is Burano Island, known for its colorful houses along the trademark Venetian canals. Its whimsical canal and houses should be on anyone's list to visit in Italy, especially if you'll be visiting Venice on the way!
On Burano Island, you'll also find local art, as well as stores that specialize in lace (for which Burano Island is also known). Also make sure to check out the restaurants on the island, which have great seafood!
