Cyprus Trip 2019 | Walking Tour Larnaca | Exploring the City Center
Walking Tour in the City Center of Larnaca, Cyprus
#Larnaca #Cyprus #Travel #Trip
➡️About Larnaca:
Larnaca (Greek: Λάρνακα [ˈlarnaka]; Turkish: Larnaka or İskele) is a city on the southern coast of Cyprus and the capital of the eponymous district. It is the third-largest city in the country, after Nicosia and Limassol, with a metro population of 144,200 in 2015.
Larnaca is known for its palm-tree seafront and the Church of Saint Lazarus, Hala Sultan Tekke, Kamares Aqueduct, and Larnaca Castle. It is built on the ruins of ancient Citium, which was the birthplace of Stoic philosopher Zeno. Larnaca is home to the country's primary airport, Larnaca International Airport. It also has a seaport and a marina.
The word Larnaca derives from the Greek n. larnax, meaning: coffer, box, chest, e.g. for household stores, cinerary urn, sarcophagus or coffin; drinking trough and chalice. An informal etymology, attributes the origin of the name to (sarcophagi) that were found in the area. Sophocles Hadjisavvas, a state archeologist, states that [the city's U.S.] consul of the last quarter of the 19th century, claimed to have explored more than 3,000 tombs in the area of Larnaca, so-called after the immense number of sarcophagi found in the modern town. In the vernacular, Larnaca is also known as Scala (Greek: Σκάλα [ˈskala] from the word (Greek: σκάλα [ˈskala] a loanword from the Italian scala). During the Middle Ages, until the end of the 18th century, a small port-anchorage close to Larnaca Bay refers to maps, engravings, travel descriptions and documents as Scala di Saline and may account for this second name; (other names that appear in maps are include: Porto delle Salines, Rada delle Saline, Ponta delle Saline, Punta delle Salino, Golfo delle Saline, Port Salines, Selines, Salines, Le Seline, Le Salline, Saline, Salin, Salinas, Arnicho di Salinas, Port of Lazarus, Lazare, Marine, Marina, Commercio

10 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Cyprus
Get more Tips here!
Divide your time between the island’s rich cultural history and beaches so beautiful you’d be hard-pressed to find their equal anywhere else. There are dozens of reasons to spend some time bumming around Cyprus; here are some of the most compelling.
1. It’s Bright and Sunny All Year Long
The island of Cyprus averages about 326 days of sunshine a year. That means that even in the dead of winter, you’ll be greeted by bright sunshine pretty much every day.
2. Beaches of All Kinds
Cyprus is home to a variety of different beaches. Rocky inlets and white sand beaches are scattered across the island. Even better, no matter where you drop your beach towel, you’ll have the opportunity to wade into the cleanest water in all of Europe.
3. But It’s Not All Beaches
Cyprus is also home to Mediterranean forests that house some plants that can’t be found anywhere else, the Cyprus cedar and the Cyprus oak among them. More than 125 local plants can be found in the island’s lush forests.
4. Hit the Town and Have a Blast
Each one of the island’s six, large cities has its own nightlife and each one is worth checking out. Will you hit the clubs in Limassol or push it to the limit in Ayia Napa. Every flavor of nightlife in Cyprus is a ton of fun; all you need to do is find the one that’s right for you.
5. The Food Is Amazing
Halloumi cheese is a delicacy. Cyprus also does its own version of souvlaki (which is tasty grilled meat and vegetables). For a snack, stop and grab a Koubes — it’s basically a hush puppy stuffed with minced meat and spices. There’s really no end to the rich, delicious offerings on the tiny island.
6. The Booze Is Incredible, Too
The national drink is known as a Brandy Sour. The cocktail is a heady mix of Cypriot brandy, lemon squash, some Angostura bitters, and a splash of soda water. If you fancy wine, Cyprus is home to the world’s oldest wine, Commandaria.
7. You Can See the Whole Island in One Trip
It’s possible to set up camp pretty much anywhere on the island and then take short day trips to see whatever tourist spots you’d like to see. Nowhere on the island is more than 3 hours away from anywhere else, so you’re always near wherever you want to be.
8. Cyprus Is Very Safe
Cyprus is considered extremely friendly. Sure, in the urban areas you have to be on the lookout for a small amount of expected crime (pickpocketing, that sort of thing), but Cyprus is still considered one of the safest destinations in all of Europe.
9. ‘Quaint’ Doesn’t Begin to Cover the Architecture
The towns and cities that dot the island of Cyprus are a thrill to simply walk through. If you do manage to find yourself winging your way toward Cyprus, make sure to spend some time simply walking around. You won’t regret it.
10. Birthplace of the Goddess of Love
Any fans of Greek history might recognize Cyprus as the reputed birthplace of Aphrodite. During the goddess’ hey day, her chief temple was located in Paphos, the town near which she supposedly sprung from the foam of the sea.

Cyprus Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The island of Aphrodite, Cyprus, lying in the eastern bowl of the Mediterranean Sea, awaits tourists with warm sunny weather, diverse landscape and friendly locals. On the third largest island of the Mediterranean Sea, recreation is provided by crystal clear water, beaches with golden sand and forest-covered hilltops, while little villages, monasteries and the ancient monuments are all interesting sights. During its long history Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Turks fought for this island. All the conquerors have left their marks in the form of magnificent mosaics, silent temples, huge forts, and thin minarets. Larnaca, which is now also a holiday resort, the capital Nicosia, Lefkara village, known for its craftsmen, the beautiful Pafos, and the Troodos mountains all give us unforgettable memories. Cyprus is ideal for those who like to lie on the beach, surf, take tours, go on a bike tour, but for the skiers as well

Cyprus (Europe) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Vacation travel video about destination Cyprus.
Cyprus is the most easterly island in the Mediterranean with a nine thousand year history of colonization. An island of beauty and contrast, a melting pot of multiple influences at the intersection of both Orient and Occident. Lefkosia, or, Nicosia, is the capital, completely surrounded by walls. Famagusta Gate is the entrance to the district of Tacht El-Kala with its many narrow alleys, small buildings and handicraft studios. The Icon Museum and old Orthodox John Cathedral form the frame of the central Macarius Square. The massive construction of the Napa-Ayia Church dominates the old town and the pedestrian zone provides interesting shops, restaurants and street cafes. The city is changing more and more into a modern city. Outside Platanistasa, the Stavros Tou Agiasmati Church stands alone within the wooded mountain scenery. In Orthodox Christianity the figures were meant to depict images of a true archetype of a divine and holy nature, not one created by man. In Lagoudera a large barn roof protects the Panagia Tou Araka Church in which once gathered the first people beyond Palestine and the Holy Land, who discovered the Holy Gospel. Cyprus is an island world with fascinating landscapes and unique historical treasures and a place where summer lasts for ever.

Best of CYPRUS | Nicosia | Ayia Napa | Larnaca | Troodos Mountains
Cyprus, officially the Republic of Cyprus, is an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean and the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean, located south of Turkey.
The Republic of Cyprus has de jure sovereignty over the entire island, including its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, with the exception of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, which remain under British control. However, the Republic of Cyprus is de facto partitioned into two main parts: the area under the effective control of the Republic, located in the south and west, and comprising about 59% of the island's area; and the north, administered by the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, covering about 36% of the island's area. Another nearly 4% of the island's area is covered by the UN buffer zone. The international community considers the northern part of the island as territory of the Republic of Cyprus occupied by Turkish forces. The occupation is viewed as illegal under international law, amounting to illegal occupation of EU territory since Cyprus became a member of the European Union.

Limassol Saturday street market | BMW R NineT | Cyprus vlog
Every Saturday morning street markets (with fruits and vegetables coming from local farmers) open joyfully pretty early in the morning. Whenever I find the time, I love to get fresh products from these street markets, and enjoy a calmed and relaxed atmosphere governed by the constant buzz of people shouting out their merchandise or the passersby chatting with the sellers. Of course that I enjoy this trip on my BMW R NineT bike, even though this limits the quantities of fruits that I can carry, especially given the fact that I did not add any paniers to the bike.
If anyone asks, well, today I bought nectarines (similar to peaches, but more flavored and crunchier), two types of cherries (black cherries and regular ones) and tomatoes.
