Scuba diving with seals (Dive Vlog #1)
Seals!
It is such an amazing privilege to spend half an hour underwater with the seals in their habitat. They are so inquisitive, regularly following divers and pulling on bits of kit and playing in our streams of bubbles. Ever so graceful and impressive. And, take note - the larger seals are considerably more imposing in reality than my wide angle GoPro makes them appear.
Thank you to Discover Diving, Port St Mary, Isle of Man.
Seal action starts at 01:45 and ends at 05:30 if you want to skip ahead!
Divers discover 330-year-old remains of Britain's richest shipwreck
Divers have unearthed the 330-year-old remains of Britain's richest shipwreck that was laden with a cargo of precious diamond and pearls from India when it sank in 1684. Recent storms have shifted sands to reveal the 17th century cannons and anchors off the coast of Cornwall. The crew of the merchant ship President survived a miraculous battle with pirates and near starvation - but all-but-two died in a storm within sight of land at notorious Loe Bar, near Porthleven, Cornwall. Fragments of the ship were first reported by divers 20 years ago, but now underwater explorers from Historic England found never-before-seen cannons and an anchor. It is believed recent storms has shifted sands, revealing the loot to Cornwall Maritime Archaeology divers David Gibbins and Mark Milburn. Mr Gibbins said: 'The site was first reported by divers twenty years ago and was designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973. 'Mark and I are licensed by Historic England to monitor the wreck, but for many years it has been covered by sand. 'Loe Bar is usually a dangerous place to dive - the entry and exit are treacherous even with the smallest of waves. 'The recent period of calm weather has allowed us to get in for the first time in months. 'During our dive we were thrilled to discover seven cannons and an anchor at the site, only a few metres from shore in less than seven metres depth. 'We were exploring an area where artefacts had never previously been recorded, and we realised we were looking at new finds. 'With every storm the sand can shift to reveal new treasures. It was incredibly exciting to see something that nobody has ever seen before. 'Cannons are common finds on the wrecks of merchant ships from the age of sail, when most ships were armed. 'But it's very unusual to know that guns on a merchantmen were actually used, especially in such a colourful action and on the very voyage on which the ship was wrecked. 'It gives a special excitement to seeing these guns for the first time underwater.' The East India Company ship President met her end in February 1684, and only two crew members remained alive to tell the tale. Their accounts of the final voyage of the ship is known in remarkable detail because a pamphlet was published a few months after the wrecking. The title of the pamphlet is 'A full ACCOUNT Of the late Ship-wreck of the Ship called The PRESIDENT: Which was cast away in Montz-Bay in Cornwal On the 4th of February last, As it was deliver'd to HIS MAJESTY, (both in Writing and Discourse) By William Smith and John Harshfield, the only Persons that escaped in the said Wreck'. The tale goes that as the President set off for home the crew were involved in a deadly battle with pirates off the Malabar Coast of India. Six pirate ships set upon the merchant ship, but the battle was won when a shot from one of the President's cannons penetrated a pirate powder magazine, sinking the ship. But that victory was followed by misery and defeat,

Seals resting on St Mary's Island, Whitley Bay (UK)
We were shooting some test footage when someone told us there were seals resting on the island, which was cut off at that time by a high tide (there is a concrete causeway linking that small island and the lighthouse to the mainland).
Strong wind and only 12x optical zoom did not allow for much, though :)

Places to see in ( Looe - UK )
Places to see in ( Looe - UK )
Looe is a small coastal town, fishing port and civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England. Looe is 20 miles (32 km) west of Plymouth and seven miles (11 km) south of Liskeard, divided in two by the River Looe, East Looe and West Looe (meaning Little Cove) being connected by a bridge. Looe developed as two separate towns each with MPs and its own mayor.
The town centres around a small harbour and along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which flows between East and West Looe to the sea beside a sandy beach. Offshore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, lies Looe Island.
With the Victorian fashion for seaside holidays, Looe evolved as a tourist town, with nearby Talland Bay being dubbed the playground of Plymouth. This trend continued throughout the 20th century; more and more hotels and tourist facilities were built in the town, and Looe grew and prospered, with peaks in fishing and boatbuilding following the First and Second World Wars. Looe remains a fishing town, and retained several fish dealers operating from the quayside of East Looe until the advent of EU regulations. With its fleet of small fishing boats returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a reputation for procuring excellent fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark fishing, and is the home of the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain.
Nonetheless, Looe's main business today is tourism, with much of the town given over to hotels, guest houses and holiday homes, along with a large number of pubs, restaurants and beach equipment, ice cream and Cornish pasty vendors. Inland from Looe lie many camping and caravan sites, as well as the famous Woolly Monkey Sanctuary. Other local attractions include the beaches, sailing, fishing and diving, and spectacular coastal walks (especially via Talland to Polperro). South East Cornwall boasts several stately homes, including Antony House, Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe and Lanhydrock House, as well as the Eden Project near St Austell which tourists can access by road. Outside the busy summer months, the town remains a centre for shopping and entertainment for local villagers. Annually in late September, the town is the destination of choice for thousands of music lovers and top name performers for the Looe Music Festival, which takes place in temporary venues around the town, harbour and on East Looe beach.
East Looe centres on its broad sandy beach, with the distinctive Banjo Pier designed by Joseph Thomas, a new lifeboat station and St Mary's Church. Stretching back from the church is a grid of narrow streets forming the main business area of the town, packed with many small shops, restaurants and pubs and the Old Guildhall, now a museum. Along the estuary lies the quay with its fish merchants. Towards Looe Bridge lies the Victorian Guildhall, and just north of the bridge the railway station. This is the terminus of the Looe Valley branch line to Liskeard, where it connects to the Great Western Main Line and services to London Paddington. On the hilltop above East Looe lies Shutta, and beyond that the Sunrising housing estate and Looe Community Academy. Along the cliffs to the east is Plaidy Beach, and further on the bay and village of Millendreath.
West Looe spreads west from the bridge on the Polperro Road towards Sclerder, and along the river south of the bridge, with hotels, restaurants and boarding houses along the waterfront and houses climbing the perilous cliff above, towards a cluster of shops and businesses and the Church of St. Nicholas. Further south along the coast road is Hannafore Point, marking the edge of Looe Harbour, with to the west the wide, stony Hannafore Beach, facing across a narrow channel to Looe Island. Beyond lies the coastal path leading to Portnadler Bay, Talland and Porthallow, and then onward to Polperro. Two towers mark one end of a nautical measured mile, the other end is marked by two towers near Talland Bay.
( Looe - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Looe . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Looe - UK

DWV G&D Yankee
Dive Wreck Valley G&D Yankee shipwreck episode. For additional information on NY and NJ shipwrecks please check us out on the web
During the summer of 1995 Dan Berg producer of the Dive Wreck Valley television series filmed underwater sequences for an upcoming G&D show. The show utilized Captain John Lachenmayer's dive boat Sea Hawk. After the dive, John explained how he had recently recovered a dish embossed with a steamship company flag. He had hoped that the dish would lead to the steamship companies identity. With this information he could check records to see what vessels from that company had went down off Long Island. He went on to explain that he had already contacted maritime museums the Steamship Historical Society as well as a few authors of shipwreck books. None could find any information regarding the flags company. Dan Berg author of the popular Wreck Valley book about shipwrecks off Long Island and New Jersey, went to work. He wrote a few letters to England as well as to Marine Historians here in the states. Within only a few days he had hit the jackpot. Marine historian Bill Schell from Massachusetts not only identified the vessels steamship company but reported a near positive identification on the wreck. The Flag belonged to the United States Steel Corp., Pittsburgh Steamship Division based in Cleveland, Ohio. The companies entire fleet sailed exclusively on the Great Lakes. It seams that during WWI five vessels were cut in half, brought out of the Great Lakes then reconstructed and transferred to the East coast for the coal trade. Of these five vessels four where whaleback barges with no engine. Only one vessel, the Yankee, fits the description of the wreck we know as the G&D. The Yankee was a 296 foot by 40 foot steel hulled Great Lakes steamer. She was built by Globe Iron Works in December, 1890, and originally named German. The Yankee displaced 2,418 Gross Tons and was powered by coal fired steam. On the night of June 11, 1919, while en route from Norfolk, Virginia to Boston, Massachusetts, carrying a cargo of coal, the Yankee entered a dense fog. Soon after she collided with the Italian liner, Argentina. The Argentina's propeller ripped through, causing a fatal wound to the steamer Yankee. The following information is excerpted from the accident report filed with the Secretary of Commerce: A dense fog prevailed and the vessel was proceeding at a slow speed.... Suddenly, the lights of the Argentina were seen about two points on the port bow.... Engines of the Yankee were at once stopped but as it was seen that a collision was inevitable, the helm of the Yankee was brought hard-a-port. This was done in an effort of paralleling the other vessel and was almost accomplished, but the ships closed in, and the starboard bow of the Argentina struck then sheared off the Yankee. This forced the Argentina's stern into the Yankee's hull. The Argentina's propeller ripped through, causing a fatal wound to the steamer Yankee. Captain Dennis Mugan, his entire crew of 22 and all eight passengers abandoned ship without injury.

Here we go again!
We board a flight from Amsterdam and in 9 hours we are in the Caribbean. After a layover of just a couple of hours on Curacao, we fly on to Jamaica. We land in Kingston around 11 am local time. The air is hot, but not too humid.
We have a 3 hours layover, so we decide to get out of the airport and go have lunch in Port Royal, half an hour away on the coast. It's a bit of a ghost-town, once a very rich merchant harbor, destroyed at the end of the seventeenth century by a powerful earthquake. It looks like it never really recovered…
We eat lunch in a small fish-restaurant, famous for its snapper. But I eat jerk chicken because I am picky with my fish, and the jerk-spices here are amazing!
Of course we drink some Red Stripe beers, and Simon and myself decide it's time to find some weed. It does not take long before we hit the jackpot: literally on the side of the local Police station, along the seaside, there are some barracks and shacks; inside a group of Rastas is busy cleaning and chopping weed and rolling it up in small balls, using rolling papers as containers.
We ask if we can buy some, and the guys are thrilled. It's cheap, less than 1 Euro per gram. But it's a bit bitter, very leafy, and we enjoy it just because it's been a while since we smoked in Amsterdam! Some of the Rastas in the back are smoking crack cocaine in a glass pipe, the smell is terribly sour. They ask if we like some, and we politely tell them we are just here for the ganja; they nod, and scream Jah Rastafari!
We sit and smoke a joint with them, and chat a bit about the local weed, and the cops. It's incredible that this is all happening next to the Police station.
We leave as soon as the joint is over, and we go back to the restaurant to join the rest of the crew.
It's time to get back to the airport and catch a Jamaican Airlines flight to Montego Bay, where our local contacts are waiting. The flight is really short, under half hour, and we arrive in MoBay before sunset. Bigga, Shanti, Nampo and Taleban are waiting for us and it's great to see them again; Arjan and myself spent some crazy days with these guys not long ago, during our scouting trips on the island.
These guys are a tight crew, and they are going to take care of us during the next days of this filming trip.
Nampo is a older Rasta, wise man, with lots of contacts and very respected.
Taleban, his friend, is a grower and a smuggler, a real pirate and one of the funniest guys we ever had with us during our expeditions.
Bigga is our driver/bodyguard, he's a man of the road and he knows who and what you need to know to keep us safe.
Shanti is a local singer, a reggae artist with an amazing talent and a great personality. I know him since he was 10 years old, back in 1994, when I spent a few weeks near where he lived with his father (the man supplying me with fine herb at the time). It was really special to find Shanti during our scouting trips back in July, he's now a grown up man… and I am getting old! Shanti will come along and make sure the soundtrack of our travels is inspiring and inspired.
We get the cars, two Toyota Fortuner, and we load up the mountain of gear we are carrying. Then we drive down to Negril in the sunset light, and when we arrive it's already dark. We decide to spend the first night at the Blue Cave Castle, a really cozy place on the rocky cliffs of Negril.
It's another true 1994-flashback for me, this is one of the places where I stayed when I was a 20-years-old ganja-traveler, already a Strain Hunter without knowing it…. Of course to make the flashback even more intense the same room where I slept then is available, so I take it.
It still looks the same.
We are tired from the long travel, and we decide to go for some food. Unfortunately the chef is sick, so we decide to find something not too far away. We hit a jerk-chicken stand by the side of the road and we eat like there's no tomorrow.
After a few Red Stripes and a few joints we go back to the hotel, where we smoke some good amount of high-grade weed, and some gum, the local finger-hash.
The weed is definitely an indica-cross, it tastes sweet and strong, and they say it's from a site not too far from where we are. We make a plan for tomorrow, and we go to sleep. Jamaica is great. It's a true privilege to be here again.
Jah Bless!
And now we are back with MisterX pics, the man is a true artist..... enjoy!

Tower Isle | St. Mary to Ocho Rios | St. Ann | #Jamaica
#OchoRios #TowerIsle #MauriceKingpin
Enjoy the beautiful scenery on this drive from Tower Isle in St. Mary to the Resort Town of Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
Ocho Rios (Spanish for Eight Rivers) is a town in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica. Just outside the city, travelers and residents can visit Columbus Park, where Columbus supposedly first came on land, and see maritime artifacts and Spanish colonial buildings.
It was once a fishing village but now caters to tourists.
It is a port of call for cruise ships as well as for cargo ships loading sugar, limestone, and in the past, bauxite. Scuba diving and other water sports are offered in the town's vicinity.
The name Ocho Rios is a possibly misnomer, as there are not currently eight rivers in the area. It could be a British corruption of the original Spanish name Las Chorreras (the waterfalls), a name given to the village because of the nearby Dunn's River Falls.
The North Coast Highway from the international airport at Montego Bay to Ocho Rios has been improved since 2007 and the journey is now an hour and forty five minutes drive. On 26 August 2011, the Jamaican government announced a $21 million revitalization plan for the resort area. Since March 2016, with the opening of the North-South portion of Highway 2000 (whose North terminus is located at Mammee Bay, a suburb of Ocho Rios), driving and commute times into the nation's capital, Kingston, has gone from over 2 hours to a little under an hour. The opening of this highway has reduced traffic on the old route between Jamaica's two cities (through the town and onto Fern Gully) immensely.
The town has restaurants, and in Margaritaville and Dolphin Cove nightclubs where tourists swim and interact with dolphins. Another major point of interest is Fern Gully. Fern Gully is the result of a 1907 earthquake that destroyed one of the river beds in the area. Fern Gully stretches about 3 miles of great rocky gorge where travellers can see over 540 variety of ferns. In 1907, the British government paved over the destroyed river bed to create what is currently known as The Fern Gully Highway.
