Riga (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Riga in Latvia.
Riga is the capital of Latvia, a Hanseatic city and European capital of culture. Saint Petri Church is located in the centre of the city and has a long and varied history. It features inner cross vaults modelled on those of the dome of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck’s cathedral, plus a circular arch and sturdy, red brick walls. It is one of the most important sacred buildings of the Middle Ages and is closely linked with the development of the city. Mentzendorff House was a manorial property which German merchants had built at the end of the seventeenth century. Carefully renovated, its original splendour has been fully restored. The middle class buildings of Elisabeth and Albert Street indicate the prosperity of its past occupants. Like almost nowhere else, art nouveau has been preserved incredibly well with lavish embellishments and numerous motifs. Marien Cathedral is situated in the centre of the city and is the most important religious building in the Baltic States. Its age, dimensions and contrasting architectural styles bear witness to a long history and its famous organ, built in 1883, contains a hundred and twenty four registers and almost seven thousand wooden and metal pipes. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis and, with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

Riga (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Riga in Latvia.
Riga is the capital of Latvia, a Hanseatic city and European capital of culture. Petri Church has been at the centre of various conflicts between the military order of the Livonian Brothers Of The Sword, and the local population. In 1666, its tower collapsed, buried eight people and, in 1721, lightning destroyed it completely. Czar Peter The Great had it rebuilt, a hundred and twenty seven metres high and with a wonderful view. Mentzendorff House was a manorial property which German merchants had built at the end of the seventeenth century. Carefully renovated, its original splendour has been fully restored along with its splendid ceilings. Where today is the highest television tower in Europe, the Latvians strived to fight for their independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Latvia has frequently been occupied by the Crusaders, the Teutonic Order, the Swedes, and finally, the Tsars. The Open Air Museum Of Folk Culture was built in 1924 and is one of the oldest open air museums in Europe. From each of Latvia’s regions, dwelling houses, churches and windmills have been re-assembled, with furniture and everyday objects. Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Juglas the museum recalls the daily life of Latvia’s farmers, craftsmen and fishermen. In keeping with the age-old traditions of the Hanseatic League, the very heart of the Baltic beats within Latvia's metropolis, and also with an elegant lust for life, Riga is an extraordinary treasure!

Ventspils (Latvia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Ventspils in Latvia.
Ventspils is located on the Black Sea in the north of Latvia’s west coast and since the thirteenth century has been a city of sailors. From the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries it was member of the German Hanse and in the middle of the seventeenth century a shipyard was built for warships and merchant ships, which led to the prosperity of the city. On the banks of the Venta River is the only castle of the Order Of The Princedom Of Kurzeme, built by the Livonian Order at the end of the thirteenth century. The harbour has been well-developed and boasts a long history, from the Wenden Tribe and the Crusaders, right up to the present day. A trip around the harbour highlights the fact that Ventspils is the most important port in Latvia and from where oil from Siberia is loaded as well as chemical products and also wood and fish. After the Northern War and a devastating plague, the city lay in ruins and the harbour, unused. However, following the extension of the harbour at the end of the nineteenth century, life returned. When, in 1904, a rail link was opened to Moscow and Rybinsk, the harbour became important once again. In this region, people have always lived by the sea and the ice-free harbour gave rise to Ventspils’ deserved prosperity.

I traveled to Riga for only 4 days and managed to see and do a lot in that short given timeframe. Riga is the largest city of the Baltics and offers a lot of cool things to do in Riga itself but also just a short train ride out of the center in Sigulda.
This video showcases the combination of a city trip and and action packed day out in the nature. My personal highlight has been the flight in the vertical wind tunnel Aerodium near Sigulda - if you feel like you can even go Bungee Jumping there.

Discover Riga Beer District 2019
Beer is in Latvians’ blood and brewing is part of their DNA. Thus, it is no surprise that the global craft brewery boom found some highly fertile soil in Latvia.
Portentously, the Riga Beer District is graced by three historical breweries: Kimmel, Kunzendorf and Stritzky. Although these giants foundered amidst the turbulence of history, the spirit of beer lives on. After Valmiermuiža Brewery established its Riga Embassy on the premises of the former Stritzky Brewery, one after another, a host of new pubs opened their doors in this neighbourhood, some of which even installed their own brewing apparatus.
Actively encouraged by the founder of Valmiermuiža Brewery, the neighbours decided to join forces and launch the Riga Beer District. Their goal is to promote the diversity of flavours offered by small craft breweries to both Latvia’s beer lovers and visitors from near and far.
Welcome to a 2.5km route with ten pubs, gastropubs and brew pubs in which you can enjoy over 200 Latvian craft beer varieties!
RIGA OLD TOWN Latvia/Europe 2019
Discover Riga, Latvia
There's something of a big city feel to Riga compared to its Baltic capital neighbors Tallinn and Vilnius. Besides the highly walkable old town, there are a few more highlights to see in your time there. Riga has more Art Nouveau architecture than anywhere in the world, and in the museum at the center of the Art Nouveau district, you can discover why Riga was at the forefront of this architectural movement. Do some shopping with the locals in the vast central market which, constructed from zeppelin hangars 100 years ago, remains one of Europe's largest. And take in the views from one of a number of spots, like the tower of St Peter's Church, the observation deck of the Communist Cousin Academy of Sciences, or the new national library, nicknamed the Mountain of Light.

To kick off our 2017 travel season we headed to Latvia for a three day weekend in March exploring Riga and Cesis. Wandering through the old streets, taking in the beautiful architecture, and experiencing life in and out of the city during a light snowfall made for an adventurous weekend. We felt like we were stepping back in time as we took everything in around us especially exploring the old castle by candlelight.

Riga, Latvia - September HD
Music:
We found Riga to be a very child friendly, safe, lovely place. This time we visited it during summer, walked around its many parks and gorgeous canals, enjoyed its medieval Old Town as well as its Art Nouveau district. Not to forget the tasty, cheap food and beer, any of the traditional Lido restaurants are a must.
Riga - Latvia
Riga in Latvia is a really beautiful capital city which I liked to visit. Here is my video from my day in Riga.
Day Trip to RIGA | Old Town | Daugava River | Lido Restaurant | Latvia
The biggest metropolis in the Baltics, Riga perfectly blends timeless tradition and cutting edge cool. Drop in and get energized by a city with surprises on every road and rooftop.
A Nordic blonde with a fiery heart, there’s much more to Riga than meets the eye. In its 800 years of turbulent history, everyone from German knights to Swedish kings and Soviet commissars have left their footprints, and today Latvia’s capital is an exciting European metropolis at the crossroads of eastern and northern Europe.
Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage site of cobblestones and breathtaking river views, as well as Europe’s Wifi capital with almost 1,000 spots to get online for free. Riga is an adventure for the taste buds too. The enormous Central Market is a treasure trove of earthy sausage, cheese and black bread, smoked fish, and much more. Sample the goods on a picnic in one of Riga’s lovely parks, or enjoy a hearty meal in many great value bistro and cafes. To wash it down, sample intriguing local beers in the brew pubs along hipster strip Miera iela, or a cocktail with the mysterious Riga Black Balsam in fun-filled bars across town.
