Medina Of Marrakesh Video Guide - Morocco Tourist Guide - Travel & Discover
Marrakesh is possibly the most important of Morocco's four former imperial cities (cities that were built by Moroccan Berber empires). The region has been inhabited by Berber farmers since Neolithic times, but the actual city was founded in 1062 by Abu Bakr ibn Umar, chieftain and cousin of Almoravid king Yusuf ibn Tashfin.

This is a great area to understand better the traditional old culture of this country. Can be quite intimidating at first but, embrace the madness, relax and enjoy this fascinating place where you can buy anything you want and try all the foods. Remember, sellers usually start with a ridiculous price because they expect to bargain with you. This is a new experience on all the senses, the noise, smells and sights, the narrow passageways, the pollution from the motor scooters. It's wonderful! Remember to have an open mind!

How do you say it: Marrakech or Marrakesh? Don’t worry, both are okay! Marrakech Morocco in 4K by Wanna Walk - The common English spelling is Marrakesh and Marrakech in French is also widely used. I was told that the name Marrakech comes from the words amur kush which means The Land of God. This is the third largest city in Morocco with less population than Casablanca and Fez. The city lies near of the Atlas Mountains and it's pretty close to the Sahara Desert. Be sure to also visit the square of Jemaa El-Fna is very popular, in particular in the Marrakech's night. Lovely atmosphere at night in Gueliz, vibrant and very safe.

Marrakesh is a must visit destination so I decided to make a travel guide.
Looking for the top things to do in Marrakech Morocco? Here are the top places to visit on your next trip to Marrakesh!
Take a tour of Marrakech and enjoy our list of recommended attractions to see:
Number 7: Jardin Majorelle, originally created by French artist Jacques Majorelle, the property was later on purchased by the fashion designers, Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé. Entry fee is 5 USD. It gets quiet busy and loses its charm with the crowd.
Number 6: Jemaa El-Fna Square, real epicentre of Marrakech, the square will subdue its visitors by its charm. Visit it during the day and at night and notice the difference. This 11th century historic area is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Number 5: Maison de la Photographie, located in a nicely renovated Riad, it's a photo museum that takes you back in time. The Riad has a roof terrace where you can have food and drink and admire the stunning view of the Medina and the Atlas mountains.
Number 4: Get lost in the medina and the souks, wander through the narrow alleys of the city's ancient walled medina, buy Moroccan handcrafted items, bargain, push the doors of hidden riads.
Number 3: Bahia Palace, one of the masterpieces of Moroccan architecture. One of the best spots for your Instagram shots. Entry fee is 7 USD.
Number 2: Le Jardin Secret, an oasis of tranquility in the chaotic Medina. Discover its gardens and buildings which are outstanding examples of Islamic art and architecture.
Number 1: El Badi Palace was once the biggest and most splendid palace complex in Morroco. Today only its foundations remain but it is still magnificent, so much that Christian Dior held its fashion show in the palace to showcase his beginning of 2019 Cruise collection. The Palace also hosts the annual festival Marrakesh du rire with Jamel Debouze.

Marrakech is a city full of magic at the gates of the desert and at the foot of the Atlas mountain range, and is a real oasis where it is possible to experience the delight of all the senses.
It is a city divided by a Wall and within the walls you will find The Medina, the old town where you can find the Souk, the arabian market in which you can find absolutely anything. Outside you have Guéliz, the modern área, the heritage of the old French protectorate that was once long ago Marrakech.
Jemaa the Fna square is the heart that pumps life to The Medina. Every evening, after five o’clock, the Square changes its identity: the ambulant dentists, water sellers, snake charmers and the rest of the merchants disappear, and collective restaurants constituted by 60 stalls, open its doors. An environment of fair is created that accompanies the exhibition and get rid of halacas, ephemeral circles of bodies crowd round the halaiqui, which is a rudimentary musician, an acrobat or a reader of fairy stories, a complete art that has earned the Square inclusion in the list of Cultural Immaterial Patrimony of the UNESCO.

At the height of summer, daytime temperatures can reach a sweltering 42C and shops and restaurants often close during Ramadan and in August. Winter can be warm and blissfully free of crowds – but remember that temperatures drop dramatically at night.
Where to go
Marrakech is a city of moments: gazing on the iconic Koutoubia as the call to prayer rings out at sunset, wandering the Bab Doukkala market buying armfuls of fragrant mint, and ducking under dripping yarn drying to a shade of imperial purple in the Dyers Souk. The focal point of the city’s rambling morphology is the Djemaa el-Fna, its finest sights the sculpted Bahia Palace, the Medersa Ali Ben Youssef and the green cacti garden of the Jardin Majorelle. Come 2016, Marrakech will also have its first piece of museum architecture: a new David Chipperfield-designed Museum for Photography and Visual Arts

Come 2016, Marrakech will also have its first piece of museum architecture: a new David Chipperfield-designed Museum for Photography and Visual Arts.
Here is the Best Destinations in Marrakech and Top places in Marrakech.
Jemaa el-Fna
Somewhat of an open-air theatre and museum combined, Jemaa el-Fna is the pulse of Marrakech. The daily square buzzes with snake charmers, henna tattoo artists, and various other entertainers; while at night there are countless stalls boasting traditional lamb heads and fresh orange juice. Tourists flock here all year round to experience the true heart of the city and to discover the intriguing things the locals have to offer in this magical Moroccan square.
Jardin Majorelle
One of the most popular locations in Morocco, the Jardin Majorelle is the creation of French painter Jacques Majorelle who spent 40 years injecting his passion and creativity into this magical garden. Complete with enchanting little lanes, magical trees and over 300 species of stunning plants and tranquil streams, Jardin Majorelle is perfect for those who want a break from the busy city and want to experience the Art Deco and Moorish influences in a relaxing environment.
Koutoubia Mosque
Given the importance of the mosque in Moroccan culture, the Koutoubia Mosque is a must see for those in the area. The largest mosque in Marrakech, the Koutoubia is not only a spiritual centre but a point of reference for international architecture. Setting the trend for buildings in Spain and Rabat, the beautiful 12th-century minaret is an example of the Moorish ornamental expertise: with characterful arches and rigid proportions, it’s an admirable piece of architecture. Enjoy the call to prayer coming from the top of the minaret five times a day and appreciate the architecture of this important building.
Saadian Tombs
These tombs were created to stand as the final resting place of the many rulers and members of the Saadi dynasty. Rich in history, the Saadian tombs were rediscovered in 1917 after having been sealed up for centuries. Magnificently decorated with bright tiles, Arabic calligraphy, and intricate carvings, Saadian Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour ed-Dahbi certainly spared no expense on his tomb, making for a beautiful site for tourists. Located just outside of Marrakech, the tombs are easy to reach, and a fantastic alternative to the bustling city. Carefully restored and well preserved, they now stand as one of the most popular things to see in Morocco.
Old Medina Marrakech Souks
On a trip to any Moroccan city, the enchanting souks are a must on the agenda. Marrakech is no exception. Labeled one of the most exotic and magical cities in the country, Marrakech boasts a full medina with typical winding souks and countless treasures, from bags, to ceramics. Whether you’re looking for literature, handicrafts, or food, there’s a street and an alleyway for everything. Visitors can get lost for hours in the labyrinth of enticing streets. So relax, explore, and discover some locally made treasures.
