This free yet comprehensive health lit level dementia overview focused on the scourge of Alzheimer's disease and concluded with a spirited Question & Answer session.
SW Border AHEC Defined:
The Southwest Border Area Health Education Center (AHEC), formerly known as the Winter Garden Border AHEC, was established in 1993 under the auspices of United Medical Centers, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center. In 2006, the AHEC moved its offices to Del Rio, Texas but returned to Eagle Pass in 2007 under the sponsorship of Maverick County Hospital District. On September 01, 2009 it became its own 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation. So as to mirror its location and target population, the AHEC changed its name to Southwest Border AHEC. The Southwest Border AHEC focuses on providing clinical and educational opportunities for health professionals and students, establishing community health education programs and promoting health careers.
To improve the quality of health care by addressing the shortage of health care professionals through the recruitment and retention of health care professionals and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices based on the needs of the communities.
This proactive AHEC's current 'Service Area' includes the Texas counties of Maverick, Kinney, Val Verde, Edwards, Real, Uvalde and Zavala.
The Center is part of a network of five community-based AHEC Centers with the South Texas AHEC Program located at the UTHSCSA (Re-branded UT Health SA).
Deadly Disease Defined:
Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a degenerative brain disease of unknown cause that is the most common form of dementia, that usually starts in late middle age or in old age, that results in progressive memory loss, impaired thinking, disorientation, and changes in personality and mood, and that is marked histologically by the degeneration of brain neurons especially in the cerebral cortex and by the presence of neurofibrillary tangles and plaques containing beta-amyloid. Do Not Ask Me to Remember by Owen Darnell
Do not ask me to remember,
Don’t try to make me understand,
Let me rest and know you’re with me,
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
I’m confused beyond your concept,
I am sad and sick and lost.
All I know is that I need you,
To be with me at all cost.
Do not lose your patience with me,
Do not scold or curse or cry.
I can’t help the way I’m acting,
Can’t be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you,
That the best of me is gone,
Please don’t fail to stand beside me,
Love me ’til my life is done.

FULL TRAIN RIDE: President George H.W. Bush FINAL RIDE To College Station, Texas
The special funeral train carrying former President George H.W. Bush arrived in College Station, Texas on Thursday -- the last leg of his journey before America's 41st president is laid to rest.
Following a funeral at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Bush’s casket – draped in an American flag – was loaded aboard a Union Pacific Locomotive 4141 train car in Spring, Texas.
Former President George W. Bush and his family were among those in attendance at the ceremony, after which they boarded the train.
During the funeral, the elder Bush – who died Friday at age 94 – was remembered for his “decency, boundless kindness and consideration of others” by a longtime friend and former secretary of state, James Baker.
Bush is to be interred on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, on the Texas A&M University campus, near his wife, Barbara, and Robin, their daughter who died of leukemia at the age of 3 in 1953.
The train was scheduled to slow down through a number of towns along its roughly 70-mile trip. That included Magnolia, where hundreds of people gathered to see 4141 go by. Crowd members waved flags and cheered as the train arrived.
There have been several other such funeral trains in the nation's history. That includes the one that carried Dwight D. Eisenhower’s body from the National Cathedral in Washington to his Kansas hometown of Abilene several decades ago, according to The Associated Press.

These tiny homes were made for veterans who are homeless.
11 men and 2 women veterans currently reside in the village and will live rent-free while working toward getting back on their feet. Each unit comes with all the essentials, including a bedroom, kitchen, heat and AC.
“[As a veteran] I’m not going to worry about my mental health issue or if I have an addiction issues, if I’m worried about where I’m going to sleep, what I’m going to eat, how I’m going to pay my bills. We eliminate all those things.” Bryan Mayer, the community’s co-founder stated. “Anyone that me have a social anxiety disorder, PTSD — group living situations really are not good for those individuals, and this kind of provides that shelter, that home for them.”
Veterans work with an on-site manager to plan out treatment and social services, like learning how to budget and grocery shop. 1 home costs roughly $15,000 to sponsor one home and the project is funded completely by donations. There are currently 13 homes in the village with 37 more on the way.
Around 500 cities have also expressed interest in building a similar tiny home village in their communities. The next village is set to be built in Nashville.

Arizona and New Mexico
Two bordering states in these United States. Both are in the heart of the American Southwest.
Both are about the same size...New Mexico is just slightly bigger. However, Arizona has more than three times as many people, and it’s growing at a higher rate. In fact, Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the country, while New Mexico is definitely not.
A big reason why is Phoenix, which is the fifth biggest city in the country. Phoenix attracts all the concerts, all the professional sports teams, all the best comedians, and all the best indie films in theaters that people think they’re cool for seeing.
Arizona also has Tucson, which has a larger metropolitan population than New Mexico’s biggest city, Alburquerque. Still, it has an amazing balloon festival called the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Plus Albuquerque is a way cooler name for a city. I just love saying it.
Both states are known for their deserts, for both are two of the driest states in the country. However, both have these little areas that get higher rainfall due to having a higher elevation.
Due to these elevation differences, both do have some climate variation. I mean, Arizona has the high plateau in the northeast part of the state, the mountainous region that runs from the northwest to southeast, and the low ranges and desert valleys down in the southwestern part. Its biggest desert is the Sonoran. The Chihuahuan Desert is the big one in New Mexico, and it even creeps into Arizona. New Mexico also has the Rocky Mountains in the north, the Great Plains in the east, and basically high plateau throughout the rest of the state. Where the elevation is high, they also tend to get four seasons. Otherwise, folks have been moving to both states for decades due to their mild winters and generally beautiful weather. Or at least snowbirds just head down there for the winter.
