Rebecca's Visit 2016 : Vancouver Island
In July 2016 my youngest daughter Rebecca and I took a camping/hiking trip to Vancouver Island, B. C. We just allowed ourselves to flow, hour by hour. Thus we discovered a few magical places that we would probably have overlooked had we planned more! We ended up exploring the Pacific Marine Circle Route from Sidney, to Duncan, to Cowichan, to Port Renfrew, Sooke, and back to Sidney to the catch the ferry back to Anacortes, WA.

Klemtu Terminal Paving
Klemtu is a paving project completed by Kentron Construction at the Klemtu Inlet Ferry Terminal. This project was very challenging as the remote location required the asphalt to be barged 36 hours to the site before being paved.

Arctic & Pacific Northwest 2017, Preview
2017 adventure motorcycle tour through the Arctic & Pacific Northwest, movie / mini-series, here ... [Chapter 01 of 12]
The 18,000 mile journey took a little over three months (early August to mid November), and started out of Chicago, heading over to the Mississippi River, then due north into western Ontario, across Canada Highway 1 (starting at Kenora) to Canada Highway 16 (Winnipeg to Edmonton), up Highway 43 (Dawson Creek) to the Alaska - Canada Highway (the AlCan to Watson Lake, then Whitehorse) to the Yukon Highway (Dawson City), to the Dempster Highway (Inuvik) into the Yukon & Northwest Territories, doubling back to Dawson City and over the Top of the World Highway to Alaska (Chicken, Tok), up to Fairbanks, then crossing over the Atigun Pass on the Dalton Highway to Deadhorse / Prudhoe Bay, then southerly towards the Lower 48 via Denali / McKinley, Anchorage, Valdez, then back through Tok, then to the AlCan (Jake's Corner), dipping down to CarCross & Atlin and back up to the AlCan (Watson Lake), then down the Stewart - Cassiar Highway (Meziadin Jct, Stewart - Hyder) in British Columbia, an approximate figure eight in southern BC (Lake Kootenay to Whistler) then, just north of Vancouver city, boarding a ferry over to Vancouver Island (Nanaimo), across to Tofino, then to a ferry in Victoria back to the US (Port Angeles / Olympic Peninsula), down the Pacific Coast on US Highways 1 & 101, and, after a quick jaunt to the unbeknownst to me fire ravaged Columbia River Gorge, some major bike maintenance (clutch / rear bearing & hub ... bike at 90k+ miles; 12,000 overloaded), and then the much anticipated but unfortunately aborted attempt at the Trans America Trail (the motorcycle-not-bicycle TAT), starting at Port Orford, Oregon, but then, 100 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, stopped at the TAT truck stop up in the foothills of the Cascades, site of a presumably impassable mud hole for my rig/rider, then fleeing from Jack Frost, waiting just a little further east in the higher elevation passes of the Cascade & Sierra Mountains, bailing out of the TAT back to the redwoods / Pacific coast and continuing southerly on Highways 1 & 101 to Santa Barbara, then easterly through Death Valley, skipping over the north end of Las Vegas and along the Utah - Arizona border to Zion and Monument Valley, then southern Colorado as there was a winter storm warning for 8,000 feet & above on Interstate 70, and finally, after a tumbleweed forced detour in SE Colorado, back to Chicago.
Bike ridden was an adventurized 2007 BMW F800ST, modified as follows: engine guard; skid plate; oil filter / oil cooler guard; clutch case & stator protective covers; handle bar riser; handle bar protectors w/custom mounting; handle bar heavy cordura cloth covers; off road foot pegs; custom battery volts & amps digital meter panel; all-in-one auxiliary tail light cluster; individually controlled HID aux headlamps / white ground effects LED lighting; pannier rack; soft panniers; muffler heat shield brackets under heat shield pad for pannier protection; stacked 3 US gallon gas & 2 US gallon water tanks w/purpose-built bracket at rear; left hand rear brake; navigator; front/helmet & rear action cameras; tablet for camera monitoring w/cell data; cell phone mount / wireless & hard-wired charging; 2TB wireless hard drive in waterproof pouch, wirelessly charged for video backup; hard-wired engine code reader w/rocker switch auto-off timer; wireless router cum 5V / 10,000 mAh power bank in waterproof pouch, wirelessly charged; 12V electric power feed for heated jacket, pants, & socks; 50W / 12VDC - 120VAC power supply for bike-mountable laptop & other device charging; custom front fender lift brackets for better wheel clearance; custom-braced, after market, larger wind screen; yet-in-search-of-buttvana after market seat, seat cushion, and seat cover triple combo; custom mirror mounts; strapped on spare tires; tank bag; and rally-type map scroll for the TAT.
Gear packed included a fishing pole, net, & tackle, fish fillet knife, full-size folding cutting board, and repurposed-triple-s'more grill cooker (cooker never used!), spare final drive belt (one spare used & replaced), a fuel siphon, picket anchor system w/block & tackle rope rescue pack, nylon D-rings, tow rope, tire irons, patches, slime, electric & hand air pumps, quart of oil, MAPP gas torch, 20 lbs of tools/zip ties/tapes/glues/etc., including beam-type torque wrench, one camping shovel, mud pick, integrated water bottle / filter / ultraviolet purifier, 3L water bladder, clothing, sport sandals, electric shoe dryers, laptop, SLR-like digital camera, satellite SOS/911 locator, purpose-built motorcycle tent w/garage, sleeping bag, sleeping air pad, air pillow (so nice), small stool, sun hat, mosquito netting, insulated food storage bag / later a bear-proof barrel Christmas wrapped in a windshield reflector bound by bungee net; extra bungee straps & netting.
