Diskit Monastery also known as Deskit Gompa or Diskit Gompa is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery (gompa) in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India.
The Diskit monastery is situated on the hill, just above the flood plains of the Shyok River, on its right bank in the Diskit village (3,144 metres (10,315 ft)) in Nubra Valley. Nubra River is a tributary of the Shyok River, which flows parallel to the Indus River on the northern side of the Ladakh Range.

Diskit Monastery Ladakh is known to be the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery (gompa) in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh. This monastery belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was started by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong Khapa, who was the founder of Gelugpa, in the 14th century. It is popular as a sub-gompa of the Thikse gompa.
The Diskit monastery is located on the hill, just above the flood plains of the Shyok River. On its right bank you can find the Diskit village (at an Altitude of 3,144 metres (10,315 ft)) in Nubra Valley.
A statue of Maitreya Buddha is located in the hall. You would also get to see a huge drum located within the hall. In the second floor's chamber, there are a lot of images of fierce guardian deities. 32 m statue of Diskit Monastery Buddha Statue near Diskit Monastery faces down the Shyok River towards Pakistan.

Hello All,
In today's video, we drive through the Gorgeous Leh Ladakh terrains and the biggest beauty - Khardungla (18,380FT). Thankfully, our journey was quite beautiful and comfortable with our experienced driver at tow. We had a lot of fun, taking pictures at Khardungla, having maggi at the Army cafe and making it safely to Nubra.
Along the way, made some Ladakhi friends, went to Hunder to see the double hump camels, and saw magnificent Nubra Valley. Diskit Monastery was gorgeous as well.

This video is 12th Episode of my Ladakh series.in this video i am exploring NUBRA VALLEY , Diskit Monastery , Hunder village.
Nubra Valley is a tri-armed valley located to the north east of Ladakh valley. Diskit, the headquarter of eponymous Subdivision and also of Nubra tehsil, is about 150 km north from Leh town, the capital of Ladakh, in Indian-administered Kashmir. Local scholars say that its original name was Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachan River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges.
Diskit Monastery is belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong Khapa, founder of Gelugpa, in the 14th century. It is a sub-gompa of the Thikse gompa.
Lachung Temple and Hundur Monastery are also located nearby, the latter is below the main road near a bridge.
The monastery has statue of Cho Rinpoche (Crowned Buddha) in the prayer hall, a huge drum and several images of fierce guardian deities. An elevated cupola of the moanstery depicts a fresco of the Tashilhunpo Monastery of Tibet.
Diskit Monastery administration runs a school, with support from a Non-Government Organization (NGO) known as the Tibet Support Group, which has computer facilities and teaches science subjects, in English, to Tibetan children of the region.

This Buddha statue is located in Nubra valley near Diskit monestry of laddakh.Facing the Shyok river, the statue sits tall with a height of 32 meters and was constructed with the help of the natives of the valley. It was built in 14th century .
