Divar Island - Old Goa Places To Visit | Goa Tourism | Goa Beyond Beaches
In this episode, I have visited Divar island which has high historical significance. Along with that, I went to some famous old Goa churches.
Divar is a small island near old Goa, which is not on many people's list when they visit Goa. If you, really wish to see real Indo-Portugal Goa, then you should visit Divar island.
Recommended plan:
You can start from Panjim in the morning, visit old goa churches, have lunch and then come to ferry point which is hardly 10 mins away from the Bom Jesus Chruch. Take the ferry and visit Divar island. You can visit various temples and churches in Divar.
Uraak is one of the famous home-made liquor which you get after March-April month. Divar is also renowned for its festivals.
As I always recommend to speak to locals and know more about Divar Island.
So come on board and enjoy this fun-filled video series on GOA!!

It is located approximately upriver 10 km from Panaji (Panjim). The Island is connected to Old Goa on the south-east side, Ribandar, on the south-west side and Narve on the north side, all by ferry. A launch also connects Divar to the city of Panaji from further north-west, in the village of Vanxim. The Konkan Railway passes through the village and the nearest stop to the village is the train station at Karmali.
The drive to the village is scenic, with paddy fields and wooded hills lacing the roadway, very typical of the Goan countryside. Though in a manner equally typical of modern Goa, of late the paddy fields lie fallow and overrun with weeds, along with your odd crocodile that came through when the levees were purposely broken in early 2000.

Ferry from Old Goa to Divar Island
A video of one of the many small ferries that connect Goa proper to Divar Island. These ferries are run by the state and charge a nominal amount to transport people and vehicles across the Mandovi river.
This video was recorded at the Old Goa Jetty which is one of the three ferry points to reach Divar Island.
If you are visiting Goa, a trip to Divar Island is highly recommended.

Vlog | Divar Island Travel Guide Feat. Devaaya Resort | #RoadtoTaste
Here is the vlog of how we explored the Divar Island while chasing monsoons in Goa. We stayed at Devaaya, an Ayurveda & Nature Cure Center. There is another facet to Goa which most of us are not aware of. A part of Goa which is calm, quite, serene and most importantly non-commercialized. We are talking about the Divar Islands, a small piece of land close to Goa yet miles apart in tradition and lifestyle. We bring you our two-day Divar Island guide where we shall take you around places on the divar island and also explore the Vashi Island. This Divar Island Guide: Expect the unexpected in Goa talks about our experiences of the island stay in Goa before we headed to North and South Goa.
Do let us know if you would like to see more travel excursions like this in the comments below!

The Divar Island is situated on the river of Mandovi, 10 km from Panjim. The word “Divar” is derived from the word “Dipavati” which means a “small island”.

divar island trip Goa |divar's island Trip|
A great little way to spend a couple of hours, ferry cost so little i can't even remember how much it was. We had rented a car so drove straight onto the boat to get across.
Once there it really doesn't take long to get from one side of the island to the other. But its the side roads and temples that you want to hunt down. We stopped at a small shop on the high street for a drink (no restaurants were open) and asked a woman where we could find the church/temples and she kindly pointed us in the right direction. Definitely drive to the top of the hill to see the church, temple and cemetery. It's a friendly place but not a touristy place so you may well get some funny looks! Some very picturesque places on this island. Probably could spend 2 hours here.
Very scenic beautiful place to enjoy rain and goan weather!! Small island with cool nature and greenery. Best time to go is all months. Go by bike or cycle. Going by car, you will not be able to feel it.

Divar is divided into three villages – Piedade, Malar and Naroa; the largest of which is Piedade. This sleepy village was home to a Ganesh Temple that stood atop the highest hill in the town. The hill now houses the Church of Our Lady of Compassion,
