Epic Visibility & Summer Diving in South Bay | Kaikoura, New Zealand
We had an epic clear day in Kaikoura with a little over 5 meter visibility. Usually it sits within 1 to 3 meters of visibility. Kaikoura's underwater world has such beautiful scenery with colourful reds, yellows and greens.

Not the best conditions on the Kaikoura coast but still plenty of crays and paua to annoy.
Kaikoura Dive Spot - Before and After Earthquake
An old favourite little dive spot, north of Kaikoura affectionately named Tuni Point amongst the boys. I was lucky enough to have some old video footage and know the spot well enough to identify some of the best little caves and crevices we used to hunt that are now well above the high tide. This video gives some insight into the extent of the uplift the earthquake caused in some areas.
The post quake footage is about an hour before high tide.

Kaikoura is the Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) word for 'Food of the Sea' and is situated on the Southern East Coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is the marine wildlife hubb, Having a huge underwater canyon where whales and dolphins will dive into the depths of it to feed. The canyon stretches for over 60 kilometres and reaches depths of up to 1200+ metres, it is part of the Kermadec Trench system which extends far out into the Pacific Ocean.
Kaikoura is home to Sperm whales, Dusky dolphins, NZ Fur seals, Albatross, Orca, Humpback whales, Blue Whales, Hector dolphins and many other coastal seabirds.
