JET SKI IN PHUKET | PATONG BEACH | PHUKET ADVENTURE | THAILAND ADVENTURE

The first thing to remember is that Jet Skis can be legally operated at only five beaches in Phuket: Patong, Karon, Kata, Kamala, and Bangtao. This shouldn't be an inconvenience for anyone as these are the most popular beaches on the island. Even if someone has what looks like a Jet Ski concession at another beach, don't rent from them. You risk a substantial fine and possible imprisonment.

Before renting any Jet Ski, check to see that it is licensed. The license numbers should be prominently displayed on both sides of the bow. Licensing is Phuket's way of controlling Jet Ski vendors. If you rent an unlicensed Jet Ski, you not only run the risk of dealing with an unreliable vendor, you make it difficult for Phuket authorities to control those who rent Jet Skis.

Anyone operating a Jet Ski in Phuket is required by law to hold documents indicating they are Second Class Helmsmen of Power Driven Sea-going Vessels. This is obviously a requirement that is difficult to fulfill and one that is rarely checked by either those who rent Jet Skis or the authorities. Unfortunately, the only time it becomes important is if the person on the Jet Ski has an accident. The penalty for operating a Jet Ski without this documentation can be a fine of up to 10,000 baht or even imprisonment.

If you don't have this documentation, you can still enjoy riding a Jet Ski by going along as a passenger. The vendor will drive the craft and you sit behind as a passenger.

What comes into the mind of travellers when we talk about sea, sun and sand? Phuket must definitely be one of the answers. A number of exciting activities can be found on this island. In the early days of regional maritime trade, the cape of Phuket was locally referred to as Jung Ceylon, while locals called it Thalang, which evolved to be the name of the main town to the north of the island. As the perfect stopover sheltering traders from monsoons, Jung Ceylon welcomed merchants from India, Persia, Arabia, Burma, China, and also Siam. During the 16th century, the island was a popular trading port for tin. In 1785, Thalang town was surrounded by Burmese troops who invaded the coastal area. It was under the leadership of Chan, the widow of the governor, and her sister, Muk, who united the local residents and successfully fought and drove the invaders out of Phuket. It took over 30 days for the defending troops of Phuket, under the command of Chan and Muk, to claim their victory. As a result of such heroic deeds, noble titles were granted to Chan and Muk as Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Soonthorn, respectively. They are still highly respected by Phuket residents even today. When the city was in a peaceful state, the development of mining was so unprecedented. Chinese businessmen and miners later migrated to Phuket and soon enjoy thriving wealth. The island's long history has shaped the Phuket of the present with its diverse ethnic groups, culture, architectural influence, and fine cuisine. These attributes have made Phuket a complete tourist destination that offers a lot more beyond its natural heritage of sea, sand, forest, and world-renowned diving sites. Sino-Portuguese architecture casts its spell delighting travellers to the city, while Phuket style of hospitality has never failed to impress visitors from all walks of life.

Getting to Know: 1. Phuket is located approximately 862 kilometres south of Bangkok. 2. There are only two seasons in a year the green season (May to October) and the hot season (November to April). 3. Phuket is divided into 3 administrative districts: namely, Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Thalang and Amphoe Kathu.

What to Do on Bangla Road?


Bangla Road is now mostly known as Patong Walking Street, and for many decades has been the notorious heart of all Phuket Nightlife. The battle for night supremacy is raging every single night between Beer Bars, live music bars, rooftop bars, night clubs and, of course, those famous go-go bars!


Over the years, the centre of interest has been moving up and down Bangla road depending on seasons and popularity, but the ever-changing face of Patong nightlife is worth a look. On each side of the Patong Walking Street are alleys, locally called ‘Sois’ where more you will find more modest but often cheaper beer bars.


Of course, wherever you go on Bangla Road, friendly ladies will call you with a big smile and encourage you to have a sit, a drink and play a few silly bar games. Everyone is, of course, welcome: men, women and couples.


Bangla Road Overview
Bangla road is that street that stretches all the way from the beach to Rat-U-Thit Road, near Jungceylon Shopping Mall. While it is a very anonymous one-way traffic street during the day, it turns into a crazy pedestrian walking street starting at 6 pm. At the beginning of the night it is still relatively quiet as you can see on the photo above, but past 10 pm, expect to share it with a dense crowd.


On each side, you will mostly walk past a vast amount of beer bars, and all have an open facade. Every bar comes with ladies whose mission is to convince you to step in and order a drink (nothing more). Ladies usually stand in front of the bar, showing a menu with the price for the drinks, some ladies are dancing on counters, and some demonstrate jaw-dropping pole and acrobatic dancing skills (they are wearing cloth so don’t go imagining something). It’s easy-going and quite cheap, so have a seat somewhere, chat with the ladies, they are very friendly and watch the crowd.


Live music venues are extremely popular in Phuket. The overall quality of the bands has greatly improved with time, as well as sounds and light systems and for the price of a beer, you are watching a live concert. The good old ‘Rock City‘ is now gone but New York Live Music Bar and Monsoon. A bit away from the centre of Patong is the legendary Hard Rock Cafe with excellent musicians and bands, but also with a higher price tag.
