Malapascua: an island depending on shark tourism
The eye of typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda passed over Malapascua island. Watch the video to learn more about how the sharks are helping the people of Malapascua. We are grateful for the livelihood the thresher sharks give us. We need to act to protect them.
Bantay Dagat and Migo Sa Iho are working hard to protect the shark sanctuary.
Since the pelagic thresher shark is classed as Vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for Conservation of nature (IUCN), Divelink Cebu is a proud partner of Save Philippine Seas and the Thresher Shark Research & Conservation Project.

Description:
Discovery Scuba Diving (DSD) is a great introduction to those who have never dive before, and just want to try it out and see if it's for them before proceeding in getting a certificate as a diver.
I was able to try it out for the first time with Divelink Cebu in Malapascua Island but this is our second dive, our first dive is when they taught us the basics of scuba diving. It was really fun and a great experience to try the Discovery Scuba Diving for the first time. Highly recommended!

Malapascua Island Diving Trips with Evolution
We were there just before typhoon Ursula hit the island, and we were so lucky still be able to dive with the one and the only thresher sharks, yes Malapascua is known for the shark.
Malapascua is a small island in the Philippines, situated in the Visayan Sea close to Cebu Island. This tropical island is famous for being one of the most attractive dive destinations. Here it’s nearly always possible to dive with many kinds of marine creatures, including Pelagic Thresher sharks!
The Monad Shoal dive site is one of Malapascua’s most known spots for consistent Thresher shark sightings.. It should be mentioned that Thresher sharks are more active in the early morning, and at that time, they come to a coastal seamount which is a 20-30 minute boat ride from Malapascua to be cleaned by two species of cleaner wrasses. This is a cleaning station, and here Thresher sharks display a similar behaviour to Manta rays, if you’ve ever seen those graceful creatures visiting one of their own cleaning stations.
Malapascua’s dive sites are famous for being home to a variety of interesting creatures, not just to Pelagic Thresher sharks. Around the island, at sites nearby you can spot Whitetip sharks, different species of seahorses and pipefish (including the ghost pipefish and pygmy seahorses), squid, porcelain anemone crabs, cuttlefish, schools of tropical fish and more than 100 species of nudibranchs! Moreover, there’s a possibility of seeing Hammerhead sharks from January to April, and sometimes dolphins, Manta rays, Mobulas and Eagle rays make an appearance, too.

Discover Malapascua: Beautiful Island Cebu Philippines-thresher shark-scuba diving in malapascua
Discover Malapascua: Beautiful Island Cebu Philippines-thresher shark-scuba diving in malapascua
The island has beautiful beaches, white sand coves around the island and some snorkeling for tourists who don’t dive. Malapascua also has the most fascinating sunsets there is, so, after a day of diving, visitors can kick back and enjoy the sunset.
FUN WATER ACTIVITIES & ADVENTURES
Fun walk around the island
Yes, that’s right. It would be fun, refreshing, and relaxing to walk around the island’s soft white sands. It will take (of course depending on your speed) about 3 hours to circumnavigate the whole island.
Swimming, sunbathing, wading, snorkeling
These are among those you can enjoy with close to the beaches since the waters off the beach are quite shallow. Although they are shallow, you can already explore with a snorkel the coral reefs that surround the island.
Scuba Diving
Well, this activity is more popular among much active and adventurous explorers of the sea. And, Malapascua’s underwater is ready to accommodate divers who love marine life. Divers can always observe harlequin shrimps, ghost-pipe fish, blue-ringed octopus, thresher sharks, among other beauties of the macro life underwater.
Recommend Divelink (let the locals show you the way)
Island Hopping
This is great for groups especially among families or friends. You will visit more secluded islands where you can do picnic and other sun and fun activities, such as: barbecuing, snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, playing beach volleyball, etc.
GREAT FACILITIES & SERVICES
On Malapascua Island, you won’t worry anything about how to spend or enjoying time because there are lots of places where you can do your preferred facility. Especially at Bounty Beach, you can find restaurants, dive shops, bars, coffee shops, and even discos.
