Diving in Unawatuna 2015 - 2016
Unawatuna Diving Centre
My first Sky diving in Sri Lanka - Koggala (jumping from at least 15000 ft)
One of the best and awesome experiences I ever had. (jumping from a altitude around 15000 ft from ground level)
Initially I was not scared at all but just all of a sudden when jumped out of the plane, my gosh when I saw the ground and felt I am falling so fast, actually I got a bit afraid!
I became ok after some time, but then when the parachute opened I was wondering what pulled me up?
This video is a short video, but actually I think from the point I jumped until I land it took around 20 min to half an hour.

Bathed in warm Indian Ocean currents, and with nearly 1600 kilometres/1000 miles of palm-fringed coastline, Sri Lanka is an amazing dive destination. This island nation has for millennia been a crossroads of historic shipping lanes, the Silk Road and other trade routes have shaped its unique culture. The landscape is as vibrant and varied above the water as it is below.
The waters of Sri Lanka are home to an incredible range of marine creatures from massive blue whales all the way through to tiny nudibranch. Sri Lanka has an abundance of great sites to discover including great wreck dives which are scattered off the coast. Local divers are still discovering new wrecks as they explore the waters of this island nation. Many of the wrecks are covered in marine life, soft corals, macro critters and large aggregations of schooling fish. Above the surface, Sri Lanka also boasts wildlife reserves, which protect native species such as leopards, porcupines, and anteaters. It is also famous for its unique foods and amazing teas, which should be sampled as part of any dive trip.
Where you dive in Sri Lanka depends on when you plan to visit because the monsoon seasons vary from one end of the island to the other. October to May is the high season for diving the west and south-west coast, and May to October is the best time to dive the north-east coast. With incredible diving, friendly locals, amazing food and top side treasures, Sri Lanka truly offers it all.
Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna
Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna are very popular spots. The first of all the places on the island to have a proper PADI dive center and PADI Training center. Getting some Scuba diving hours into your holiday is a no-brainer in Hikkaduwa or Unawatuna. There are at least 10 coral reef dive spots at all depths for all levels, like Hikkaduwa Gala and Barracuda Point. There are also lots of shipwreck dives to check out, none are more than 30 meters deep.
Trincomalee
Trincomalee is on the east coast of Sri Lanka and its Nilavelli beach is the launch pad for most dives in the area. A few kilometers off the coast is Pigeon Island Marine Life Sanctuary, surrounded by coral reefs full of colorful fish, anemone, nudibranch and more. Another diving spot in Trincomalee is the shipwreck Irakkandy, an 18th-century steamer close to the coast.
Mirissa
Mirissa has always been famous for whale watching but now it’s gaining popularity for its great diving. There are around five dive sites in Mirissa. The Poseidon Diving Center has programs for beginners and also full PADI training courses to reach all levels. Mirissa is on the southeast coast of the island.
Passikudah
Another east coast diving hotspot is Passikudah. Some of the sites that can be visited from Trincomalee can also be visited from Passikudah but there are other spots close by like Passikudah reef and the Boiler Wrecks. The famous wreck British Sergeant is accessible from Passikudah.
Kirinda
Kirinda is a special diving spot, home to the Little and Great Basses wrecks. These spots can only be visited in March and April. The rest of the year the waters are way too choppy and murky for the diving to be any good. If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka during the peak Basses season, you should definitely consider this dive. There is no dive center on Kirinda but the dive centers in Mirissa or Hikkaduwa can take you.

Galle, Sri Lanka, Just in a day
We explored Galle, Sri Lanka just in a day. It was an awesome experience and a lot of fun. A little touristy with heritage buildings and lots of cafes around the Galle Fort area. Will highly recommend this place for at least a day during your trip to the south of Sri Lanka.

Exploring Galle Fort by Air, Sea and Land. Dutch Fort and Lighthouse, Sri Lanka. DJI MAVIC PRO
Excerpt from wikipedia;
Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.
The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its unique exposition of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the Ramparts of Galle, withstood the Boxing Day tsunami which damaged part of coastal area Galle town. It has been since restored.
