Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the Goddess Yamuna in Hinduism in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sites in Uttarakhand's Char Dham pilgrimage. The chief attraction at Yamunotri is the temple devoted to the Goddess Yamuna and the holy thermal springs at Janki Chatti (7 km. Away).
The temple of Yamuna, on the left bank of the Yamuna, was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The deity is made of black marble. The Yamuna, like the Ganges, has been elevated to the status of a divine mother for the Hindus and has been held responsible for nurturing and developing the Indian civilization.
Close to the temple are hot water springs gushing out from the mountain cavities. Surya Kund is the most important kund. Near the Surya Kund there is a shila called Divya Shila, which is worshipped before puja is offered to the deity. Devotees prepare rice and potatoes, tied in muslin cloth, to offer at the shrine by dipping them in these hot water springs. Rice so cooked is taken back home as prasadam. The pujaris of Yamunotri come from the village of Kharsali near Janki Chatti. They are the administrators of the sacred place and perform religious rites. They are well-versed in the Shastras.

Kedarnath yatra - केदारनाथ यात्रा ( Tehri to Kedarnath )
If you want to travel to Kedarnath then definitely watch this video.
In this video, you will see how we started the Kedarnath Yatra. We started our journey from New Tehri. First of all, from New Tehri, we went to Malatha and from there we reached Gaurikund by going to Srinagar. At night, we started walking from Gaurikund and in the darkness, we walked towards the floor and more. During the Kedarnath Yatra, you see the scenes thrilling.
After reaching Kedarnath, we can see the signs of the disaster in 2013 that can be seen there till now.
Rambara has disappeared completely, now the new road has been built at its place. Before travelling to Kedarnath, we need to concentrate on our heart and mind.
There is a crowd of devotees who visit the Kedarnath temple. The long queue of the devotees can be seen. After waiting for 4 hours, we received the good fortune of seeing Baba Kedar.
After visiting Baba Kedar, we went down to Gaurikund 16km and rested in the Phata at night.
In the morning, we went to see the Dhari Devi mother. After the visit of Mother Dhari Devi, the experience of the journey was completed. Jai Baba Kedar, Jai Dhari Devi

Char Dham Yatra 2019 | All Bus Stations
Nestled among the serene heights of the great Himalayas, are four pilgrim-destinations namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, collectively known as Chardham in Uttarakhand. Attracting more and more pilgrims each year, it has become one of the most important hubs of religious travel in Northern India. Traditionally, this pilgrimage tour should begin from the West and end in the East. Thus, the Char Dham Yatra commences from Yamunotri, then proceeding to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and Badrinath. In accordance with the Hindu conventions, thousands of devotees take up this pious tour in the hope to experience bliss and successfully purge their souls of all worldly demons.
Each of these four sites is devoted to a specific deity. Yamunotri is dedicated to the Goddess ‘Yamuna’ who goes along with the pilgrims to high altitudes of the picturesque Rawai Valley. Yamunotri stands high up in the deep left on the western face of the Bandarpunch Peak. The most sacred area of Yamunotri is a dark rock from where the hot springs emerge, called the Divya Shila. It is believed that a bath in the waters of the Yamuna River protects the devotee from untimely death, that could hinder one’s chances of achieving eternal emancipation.
Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess ‘Ganga’. The shrine overlooks the River Bhagirathi - the name having been derived from the myth of the ancient King Bhagirath’s penance that succeeded in bringing him upon the earth from the heavens. It is said that King Bhagirath meditated here in Gangotri on a rock called Bhagirath Shila, near the temple.
Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also a part of the Panch Kedar. It is the northern-most Jyotirlinga and is close to the source of the holy River Mandakini. Adi Shankaracharya is said to have attained ‘samadhi’ at a very young age adjacent to the Kedarnath Temple.
Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Neelkanth Peak between the Nar and Narayan mountains, Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is situated on the bank of the River Alaknanda. According to legends, Lord Vishnu meditated here while his consort Lakshmi took the form of a berry (badri) tree to offer him shade.
Before embarking on this journey, one has to be physically prepared to experience the Himalayan roads as this Yatra is quite accessible yet arduous.

Bandarpunch towering over Darwa Top, high above Dodital
Above the head-waters of the Assi Ganga on the Dodital side and the Hanuman Ganga that heads down to Kharsali and below the Yamunotri temple valley, lie the Bandarpunch peaks. The waters of the Assi Ganga join the Ganga above Uttarakashi and below Kalyani... A wonderful little trout stream indeed!
Pitching a tent for the first time at Dodital, in front of the old Forest Rest House, in good old Lakhiram's days!
Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 metres (9,921 ft). To reach Dodital, one may reach Uttarkashi by road and then walk to Dodital here via Bewra and other minor villages alongside the Ganges river.
According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode. There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is 'Dhundital' meaning Ganesh ka tal or lake of Ganesha.
Dodital means Emerald Lake and is situated at a height of 10, 500 feet in a forested bowl above Uttarkashi in Uttaranchal, now named Uttarakhand. It is a two day trek from the road head at Kalyani, along the Assi Ganga River. The first day's stop, after a brief but steep trek, is at Agoda village. After that, one walks 16 kilometers, across Rhododendron and oak forests to Dodital, passing through some beautiful mountain scapes inhabited by Goral (a wild Himalayan mountain goat) and Black Bear and coveys of Monal Pheasant with their iridescent plumage. Above Dodital lies Darwa Top, from where one can get beautiful views of Bandarpunch or Banderpunch (White and Black Peak) at around 20, 956 feet, and views of the Gangotri valley. Other images include Primula macrophylla, Short-toed Eagle doing the samba, a swim across the icy cold lake, setting up camp, pitching tents, fishing for Rainbow trout, a tarn at Darwa Top, views of the Hanuman Ganga, Rhododendron shrubs, crossing streams and waterfalls, Himalayan Pied Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Himalaya, Himalayas, Shivling, Jaonli, Sudarshan, Podophyllum hexandrum, fishing. adventure sports right across the state, including mountaineering, trekking, angling/fishing, ballooning, heli-skiing, skiing, para-sailing, para-gliding and river-rafting. Swargarohini and Bandarpunch ranges in the Govind Pashu Vihar sanctuary, and the Tons river basin, to the Gangotri head-waters, the Nelong-Rudragaira valleys, Harsil and the Lamkhaga and Dhuvadhar Kandi Passes and valleys. And the Jaonli and Chirbas Pravat, Sudarshan and Black Peak regions nearby. On to Yamnotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath and the char dhams. The Ganga and its river valleys. unphotographed and inaccessible Nanda Devi Sanctuary. Rare pictures of Changabang, Nanda Devi, Creamroll, Devtoli, Nanda Ghunti, Trishul and other high peaks of the region. Then the Sundardhunga and Milam valleys and peaks of Kumaon.
The lower Garhwal and Kumaon hills, with Landour/Mussoorie, Lansdowne, Ranikhet, Corbett Park/Marchula/Ramganga/Mohan axis, Sona Nadi and Haldparao/Kanda regions around Corbett. River-rafting on the Sarda, the Tons and the Ganga.

Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the Goddess Yamuna in Hinduism. It is situated at an altitude of 3,293 metres (10,804 ft) in the Garhwal Himalayas and located approximately 30 kilometers (19 mi) North of Uttarkashi, the headquarters of the Uttarkashi district in the Garhwal Division of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sites in India's Chhota Char Dham pilgrimage. The sacred shrine of Yamunotri, source of the river Yamuna, is the westernmost shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas, perched atop a flank of Bandar Poonch Parvat. The chief attraction at Yamunotri is the temple devoted to the Goddess Yamuna and the holy thermal springs at Janki Chatti (7 km. Away).
The actual source, a frozen lake of ice and glacier (Champasar Glacier) located on the Kalind Mountain at a height of 4,421 m above sea level, about 1 km further up, is not frequented generally as it is not accessible; hence the shrine has been located on the foot of the hill. The approach is extremely difficult and pilgrims therefore offer puja at the temple itself.

History
According to the ancient legend, sage Asit Muni had his hermitage here. All his life, he bathed daily both in the Ganges and the Yamuna. Unable to go to Gangotri during his old age, a stream of the Ganges appeared opposite Yamunotri for him.
The temple and the place opens every year on the auspicious day of the Akshaya Tritya, which generally falls during the last week of April, or the first week of May. The temple always closes on the sacred day of Diwali in mid-October - first week of November, with a brief ceremony. The temple staff return to their villages and for the rest of the time the valley is gripped in no-man silence and covered with a white sheet of snow. With the melting of the snow next summer, the temple re-opens.
Sangya is the birthplace of the Yamuna in the Champasar Glacier (4,421 m) just below the Banderpoonch Mountain. The mountain adjacent to the river source is dedicated to her father, and is called Kalind Parvat, (Kalind being another name for the sun deity - Surya). Yamuna is known for her frivolousness, a trait that she developed because, according to a common story, Yamuna's mother could never make eye contact with her dazzling husband.
Yamuna River
The actual source of Yamuna River lies in the Yamunotri Glacier, at a height 6,387 metres (20,955 ft), near the Bandarpunch peaks in the Lower Himalayas and is dedicated to goddess Yamuna.[2] It crosses the states of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and later Delhi before merging with the Ganges at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad.
Yamunotri Temple is situated in the western region of Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3,235 metres (10,614 ft) near the river source.[3] The original temple was built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century. The current temple is of recent origin as earlier constructions have been destroyed by weather and the elements. There seems to be a confusion as to who built the temple of Yamunotri. However, according to sources, the temple was originally constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.
