Ukraine/Lviv:
Lviv (Ukrainian: Львів,) the largest city in western Ukraine and the seventh largest city in the country overall, is one of the main cultural centres of Ukraine. Named in honor of the Leo, the eldest son of Rus' King Daniel of Galicia. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia (also called Kingdom of Rus')from 1272 to 1349 when was conquered by King Casimir III the Great who then became known as the King of Poland and Rus'. From 1434, it was the regional capital of the Ruthenian Voivodeship in the Kingdom of Poland, then renamed Lemberg in 1772 as the capital of the Habsburg Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. In 1918 in a short time was the capital of the West Ukrainian People's Republic. Between the wars, the city was known as Lwów and was the centre of the Lwów Voivodeship in the Second Polish Republic. After the Second World War, it became part of the Soviet Union (Ukrainian SSR) and in 1991 of independent Ukraine. Administratively, Lviv serves as the administrative center of Lviv Oblast and has the status of city of oblast significance. Its population is 728,350 (2016 est.)Lviv was the centre of the historical region of Galicia. The historical heart of the city, with its old buildings and cobblestone streets, survived Soviet and German occupations during the Second World War largely unscathed. The city has many industries and institutions of higher education such as Lviv University and Lviv Polytechnic. Lviv is also a home to many world-class cultural institutions, including a philharmonic orchestra and the famous Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The historic city centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Lviv celebrated its 750th anniversary with a son et lumière in the city centre in September 2006.
Due to the rich cultural programme, developed infrastructure (now Lviv has more than 8 000 hotel rooms, over 700 cafes and restaurants, free WI-Fi zones in the city centre, good connection with many countries of the world) Lviv is considered one of Ukraine's major tourist destinations.The city had a 40% increase in tourists in the early 2010s; the highest rate in Europe.

Born in 1986 in São Paulo, Brazil, the young conductor, Vinicius Kattah, was the winner of the 1st-Prize at the Blue Danube International Opera Conducting Competition 2011. As winner of this Competition, he earned engagements during the 2011-2012 season with the Slovak National Opera Bratislava, the Dnepropetrovsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (Ukraine), and the Bulgarian State Opera Plovdiv as well as a Gala performance of La Traviata with the Bulgarian State Opera Bourgas.
Mr. Kattah has conducted in opera houses and other musical theatres throughout Europe, the US, and South America. Recently he conducted La Traviata in Bulgaria, Tosca, I Puritani and Le Villi in Bratislava and Rigoletto in Ukraine. Vinicius Kattah has also worked as assistant conductor from Walter Kobéra in the Neue Oper Wien for the opera Gramma from Jose M. Sanchez-Verdu and pianist korrepetitor for the production from Baal from Friedrich Cerha.
In March of 2011, Mr. Kattah conducted four performances of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi in Vienna's Theater Akzent. The young conductor conducted also Le Nozze di Figaro in the Uniqa-Tower, Vienna in November 2011. Some of Kattah`s future engagements are as guest conductor in the 2012-2013 season in the Slovak National Opera and two operas premiere from the composers Dirk D'Ase and Wolfgang Liebhart in Vienna, November 2012.
One of Mr. Kattah's mentors is the renowned German conductor, Helmuth Rilling, from whom he received numerous scholarships to study during 2006 -- 2009. Vinicius Kattah participated in masterclasses and conducted concerts in Stuttgart, Germany with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and Gächinger Kantorei, and in Eugene, Oregon U.S.A., conducting the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra and Choir.
Vinicius Kattah completed a bachelor's degree in Opera Conducting in São Paulo, Brazil at the Faculdade de Artes Alcântara Machado under the guidance of conductors Abel Rocha and Naomi Munakata, and pianist João Carlos Martins. Mr. Kattah undertook piano and harpsichord masterclasses with the Mozart expert, Robert Levin and Maria Eugênia Sacco. He also received voice lessons with the important Brazilian baritone, Carmo Barbosa. He is currently living in Vienna, Austria, where he is completing a master's degree in Conducting with Georg Mark at the Konservatorium Wien Universität.
In 2008, Mr. Kattah traveled for the first time to Vienna, where he did research for and completed a book about Emanuel Schikaneder: DAS LABYRINTH, ODER DER KAMPF MIT DEN ELEMENTEN: Schikaneder e a Parte II de Die Zauberflöte, a complete study in Peter von Winter's opera, the Magic Flute, Part II. Recently he accompanied such well-known singers as Eliane Coelho and Juremir Vieira and performed with the vocal artists, Roxana Constantinescu, Lothar Odinius, Zoltan Nagy and Anita Hartig.
Vinicius Kattah is also working as assistant conductor from Walter Kobéra in the Neue Oper Wien for the opera Gramma from Jose M. Sanchez-Verdu and pianist korrepetitor for the production from Baal from Friedrich Cerha. In 2009, he founded the Opernstudio Vienna whose purpose is to study, play, sing and conduct the entire repertoire from Vienna State Opera with professional musicians and friends.
