Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is an oblast of central Ukraine, the most important industrial region of the country. It was created on February 27, 1932 and named in honor of Grigory Petrovsky. Dnipropetrovsk has a population of about , approximately 80% of whom live centering on administrative center of Dnipropetrovsk, Kryvyi Rih, Dniprodzerzhynsk, Nikopol. The Dnieper River runs through the oblast. Dnipropetrovsk is bordered by Poltava Oblast to the north, Kharkiv Oblast to the northeast, Donetsk Oblast to the east, Zaporizhia Oblast to the southeast, Kherson Oblast to the south, Mykolaiv Oblast to the southwest and Kirovohrad Oblast to the west. The state is a center of transportation, education, information technology and research, government services and mining. Dnipropetrovsk is the second fastest-growing region in Ukraine as of 2013.
The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is located in southeastern Ukraine. The area of the oblast , comprises about 5.3% of the total area of the country. Its longitude from north to south is 130 km, from east to west – 300 km. The oblast borders the Poltava and Kharkiv Oblasts on the north, the Donetsk Oblast on the east, the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts on the south, and the Mykolayiv and Kirovohrad Oblasts on the west.
Black Sea Lowland almost completely within the south oblast, covering half of its territory. In Ternivka located meteorite crater. It is 11 km in diameter and the age is estimated to be 280 ± 10 million years . The crater is not exposed at the surface. The Dnieper Upland contains a number of minerals including iron, manganese, granite, graphite, brown coal, kaolin etc. Kryvbas is an important economic region, specializing in iron ore mining and the steel industry. It is arguably the main iron ore region of Eastern Europe. Named after the city of Kryvyi Rih, the region occupies the southwestern part of the Dnipropetrovsk, as well as a small neighbouring part of the Kirovohrad Oblast.

International Games Day at DniproWOA, Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine 11 21 2015
On November, 21st –
This Saturday the Gabfest Club (Window on America center Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) members took part in the global event – the International Games Day.
The first part of the session was dedicated to the introduction of the event and the conversation about board games and their role in the lives of modern people. The phenomenon of “game-based learning” was introduced to the group and illustrated with several You Tube videos. The club members shared their experiences of having gamification elements in training and their attitude to the games that actually teach you something. New vocabulary to the topic was also introduced.
The second part of the Games Day session was the introduction of the WOA’s board games collection. Our American volunteer Mr. Jason took an active part in the games introduction. We started with the elementary school games that may be useful to American English learners as they teach spelling ( “Boggle” ) and progressed to the most challenging ones (the crossword game “Scrabble” and its varieties). The popular games that are just fun were also introduced (“The Jungle Speed” and “Monopoly”). The most helpful games for the Gabfest Club members are: “Apples to Apples” that enriches vocabulary and “Taboo” that improves descriptive and speaking skills.
The highlight of the session was introduction of the board games set “Activate”. The group was offered a trial set of educational games for American English learners. The participant formed pairs and actively had conversations according to the games’ titles.
The session was a funny and educational event that introduced new trends in language learning.
The Gabfest Club members made a video about their Games Day at Window on America center Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine for the global International Games Day site.

Ukrainian Cyborgs Return Home: Donetsk International Airport defenders cheered in Dnipropetrovsk
Ukrainian soldiers known as cyborgs have returned to Dnipropetrovsk for a 10 days respite from the front lines. Citizens with flowers and presents filled the central square of the central Ukrainian city to greet the defenders of the Donetsk airport. Soldiers say, they didn't expect such a warm welcome.

In Dnepropetrovsk opened a memorial to fallen heroes of Ukraine
Monument to start creating more when the first graves of soldiers, says the author of the Memorial Vladimir Nizhnik. For its production took about three months. Vladimir Nizhnik is not only the author, but also a patron. The man decided to build his own expense a memorial to Ukrainian soldiers.
According to the author, the hill on which stands a monument symbolizes the mound and arch - the cloth that covers the graves of fallen soldiers. Top - the image of the Virgin Mary, from the bottom - a marble woman who mourns the dead.
At the opening of the memorial attended by representatives of local government, military, volunteers and relatives of those killed in the east of the soldiers.
On Krasnopolye cemetery are buried 173 soldiers, the faces of some of them installed and reburied.
Besides buried in the cemetery of unknown soldiers Krasnopolye in morgues Dnepropetrovsk are another 96 fighters, whose names have not been established.

Donetsk once again came under multiple rocket attacks from Kiev forces overnight from Monday into the early hours of Tuesday morning. Over 40 Grad rockets were reportedly fired, hitting mostly residential areas across the city. In spite of the attack, no casualties have been reported.
Long queues have been forming at the bus and railway stations as refugees attempt to flee Donetsk and head to Mariupol, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkov.
