Do Drul Chorten (Gangtok)
Do drul chorten is one of the most important stupa in Gangtok. This chorten was erected in 1945. It is situated on syari road, about one km from Deorali road. While going on syari road you will first see Institute of Tibetology and then this beautiful chorten (half km from Tibetology). You have to climb very steep uphill from the entrance gate. The golden top dome of the chorten is visible from distance.
There are several chortens inside the premise, one very large at the center and a few smaller ones at the side of it. One of them we saw written as Jhang Chub chorten built in the sacred memory of the Late Revered Trul-Shik who passed away peacefully in 1962. There are 108 beautiful prayer wheels on the walls around the main chorten. Besides there is a big hall full of butter candles. On one side there is a large prayer hall. We saw the prayer of the monks. The monks use pipes, drums and other traditional musical instruments during the prayers. Witnessing the prayer of monks was a very high level spiritual experience.
