June 2009...Doc Holiday grave site...Glenwood Springs, Colorado
June 2009...This is the grave site of John Henry (Doc) Holiday located in the Linwood (old Pioneer) Cemetery which is on a boot hill located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Getting up to this cemetery is a hike...approximately 1/2 mile but it also feels like you are going straight up on a dirt and rock path. For all you low altitude people...take your time and take PLENTY of water with you as there is nothing at the cemetery except spruce trees and graves. If nature calls...find a bush. I have provided you with some links for your history reading if you wish... ... ... ... . As a bonus, I have provided a link to the grave site of Johnny Ringo... ... and rumor has it that Doc killed Johnny to protect his good friend Wyatt Earp before Doc went to Glenwood Springs to try to improve his health, but this couldnt have happened because Doc was in Colorado at a court hearing when Johnny Ringo was killed. Wyatt has always claimed that he did it, but some think that Ringo killed himself. This was all back in the day when Doc was riding with Wyatt to clean up Arizona from a gang called The Cowboys. Enjoy the links and my videos.

Today we will be exploring Doc Holliday's childhood farm by using an old map that was given to me by a historian and friend. Old West grave sites - slideshow (Earp, Doc, etc)
These are the grave sites of the good and bad guys and gals. Mattie Earp, Big Nose Kate, Doc Holiday, Billy the Kid, Alfred Packer slaughter and the Earp brothers.
Mattie Earp is buried in The Pinal Historic Cemetery just outside of Superior, Arizona.
Big Nose Kate is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
Doc Holiday is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Alfred Packer marker is in Lake City, Colorado.
Billy the Kid is buried in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (The REAL Billy the Kid...not that fake dude in Hico, Texas)
The Earps are buried in California.
As for the toughest grave to get to...it's a toss up between Mattie Earp out in the desert of Arizona or Doc Holiday who is at the Pioneer Cemetery way up on top of boot hill. People...it is a hike to get there.

Johnny Ringo's Grave and Death Site
We took I-10 to 191 to 181 then 5 miles down Turkey Creek Road (gravel) to visit Johnny Ringo's grave and death site. It a very beautiful place to spend eternity. Vampyresskiss adds a bit of history as she understands it,. Enjoy the wonderful landscape and pay your respects to Ringo at the same time,
John Ringo was in Tombstone on July 2, 1882. He appeared depressed and was drinking heavily. On July 8, he left Tombstone for the last time. Ringo was seen in Galeyville late in the night on July 9. He continued to drink heavily. By July 11, he had left the town. On July 14, 1882 ,the notorious John Ringo was found dead at a tree by teamster John Yoast. Yoast, who had known Ringo from Texas, immediately called for help. Soon several men arrived at the location. Ringo was found with his back leaning against a tree. In his right hand was clenched a .45 caliber Colt and he had a gunshot wound in his right temple. The bullet had exited out of the top of his head.1 He was buried at the spot where he was found dead. The coroner's report commented that his death was supposed to have been by suicide.2 Others that had not seen the body thought he must have been murdered. There were some strange details concerning his death. He was found with his boots off, and strips of an undershirt were wrapped around his feet. The men that viewed the body concluded that he must have traveled a short distance in this footwear. They also noted that one of his cartridge belts was on upside down. There appeared to be a cut on his scalp with a small part of his hair gone. His horse was not at the scene, but it was found a couple weeks later, still saddled. The men who found his body wrote out the following details concerning his death:
There was found by the undersigned John Yoast the body of a man in a clump of Oak trees 20 yards north from the road leading to Morse's mill and about a quarter of a mile west of the house of B. F. Smith. The undersigned viewed the body and found it in a sitting posture, facing west, the head inclined to the right. There was a bullet hole in the right temple, the bullet coming out the top of the left side. There is apparently a part of the scalp gone including a small portion of the forehead and part of the hair, this looks as if cut by a knife. These are the only marks of violence visible to the body. Several of the undersigned identify the body as that of John Ringo, well known in Tombstone. He was dressed in light hat, blue shirt, vest, pants and drawers, on his feet were a pair of hose and undershirt torn up so as to protect his feet. He had evidentially traveled but a short distance in this foot gear. His revolver he grasps in his right hand, his rifle rested against the tree close to him. He had on two cartridge belts. The belt for the revolver cartridges being buckled upside on down.
